Excellent help. Full of sound advice and herbs to really help the menopause years and women in general.

New Menopausal Years 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

A couple months ago, I was having a conversation with my mother. I mentioned some of the health issues I was having. She looked at me, leaned over, and then in a hushed voiced said that she hated to break it to me but I was having pre-menopausal symptoms.

How could this be happening to me? I'm not old. I'm not ready to get facial hair, brittle bones, and happily retire with my cats.

It was then that I remembered Susun and her Wise Woman series of books. I have read several of her books and absolutely adored them. Susun has a way of making sense of disease, as a normal part of our spiritual and psychological growth.

Without a doubt New Menopausal Years has armed me with information and a whole new perspective. My life doesn't have to include hormone injections, crazy mood swings, or adverse signs of aging. I now see this new phase of my life as an opportunity to take better care of myself and focus on the things I want to do with my life.

Editorial Review:

The menopause "bible" for 350,000 women who've chosen strong bones and healthy hearts without recourse to hormones. A treasure trove of accessible, reliable, non-drug remedies.

** The only OCD book for children and adolescents that has a companion book for parents**

Up and Down the Worry Hill helps parents and professionals explain Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder to children clearly and simply through the eyes of a child. Children will identify with Casey's initial struggle with OCD, his sense of hope when he learns about treatment, his relief that neither he nor his parents are to blame, and eventually, his victory over OCD.

In the US alone, there are over 1 million children with OCD. The author's unique story and metaphor of the Worry Hill makes OCD and its treatment easy for children to understand. Now is a time for optimism and hope because OCD can be treated successfully. This book, along with its companion guide for parents What to do when your Child has Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder: Strategies and Solutions brings hope and help to countless children and families who suffer from this baffling illness. The metaphor of the Worry Hill is a common thread that weaves through both books.

Editorial Review:

Turning thirty years of medical and cultural wisdom on its head, Sex, Lies, and Menopause challenges both the medical establishment and modern feminists to prove that menopause does not have to be deadly.

In this revolutionary work -- a landmark that signals the true beginning of feminist medicine -- a doctor, a philosopher, and a scientist prove that by postponing marriage and motherhood, women have accelerated the aging process, resulting in earlier menopause and, ultimately for thousands, earlier death.

In Sex, Lies, and Menopause, T. S. Wiley, Julie Taguchi, M.D., and Bent Formby, Ph.D., offer strong evidence that the use of synthetic hormones leads to cancer and advise women to turn to natural hormone-replacement therapy -- derived from plants, not drugs -- to help them elevate their estrogen level for greater energy, libido, and intellectual capacity.

Provocative, empowering, and scientifically sound, Sex, Lies, and Menopause addresses the inherent benefits of natural progesterone, reveals the lies advanced by the medical and drug establishments, and challenges women to demand a medical future where their health comes first. The research presented in Sex, Lies, and Menopause will at last allow women to create their own plan of action to put themselves safely on the path to better health and hormonal balance at any stage of life.

To the person who said: More pronography then medical guidance 5 out of 5 stars.
16 of 16 people found this review helpful.

This reader has an issue with a woman's whole body. In many birth books all you see is from the wasit down like the woman is not a whole person. When we focus on the whole picture (a womans torso, breasts and FACE!) we remember this isn't a birthing machine that needs fixing; this is a person, a woman, a mother.

More pronography then medical guidance 1 out of 5 stars.
4 of 82 people found this review helpful.

While certain anatomical photos are certainly necessary to help explain birth, this book goes way beyond medical visuals and seems to have gone out of its way to include pictures that border on pornography. There's even diagrams that were amended to include "details" clearly not necessary to serve as an effective visual aid. Moreover, why it is necessary to have so many waistup shots of women's breasts and pretty blatnat ones to boot when a baby comes out of the body waist below is beyond on us. We tried at first to ignore the pictures and read the book, but it just got so obscenre for us, we shelved it with plans to throw it away. Men buying Penthouse will definitely like this book!

Practical and reassuring 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

In searching for a good guide to natural childbirth, I read several titles from our library. The Bradley method felt a little too prescriptive (counting breaths, etc.), hypnobirthing a bit far-fetched. Henci Goer's important text is enough to scare anyone, but an essential read. Sheila Kitzinger's complete guide was very thorough and smart, but of everything, I chose to buy this instead. The yoga-based exercises are adaptable to multi-levels and presented in a great flow, and the birthing information emphasizes knowing and trusting your own body, with plenty of background on the natural processes of labor. For a woman who wants to be free to move around and labor comfortably, who believes in her own strength, flexibility, and resilience, I'd highly recommend Active Birth.

Very Informative and A Must Read For Pregnancy 5 out of 5 stars.

I read this when I was first expecting. This is an easy book to read and understand. It gave detailed information as to what to expect during labor and how to prepare myself emotionally and physically. Throughout my pregancy I constantly referred back to this book. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is expecting. This book helped to allievate my fears and was encouraging in the sense that my body was designed to give birth naturally without any interventions. Fantastic book!

Editorial Review:

In this book the author teaches mothers how to develop all of their bodily resources for giving birth, to follow their own instincts and to take full responsibility for the childbirth experience.

Appropriate goals. 5 out of 5 stars.
24 of 25 people found this review helpful.

The goal of raising any child is to guide them into independance, and though many autistic children will never reach complete independance, it remains an important goal. Independance is an important factor in self-esteem and is essential for entering any portion of adult life. I was consistantly frustrated with therapy manuals which required my complete and undivided attention at all times. I'm under no delusion that I will be forever available to my autistic son, and it would be nice for me to feel that he could get up and at least dress himself at some point without my verbally prompting him.

The clear instructions and logical directives in "Activity Schedules for Children with Autism" place it on my 'highly recommended' list. While not a book I would recommend for a parent whose child has been newly diagnosed, I certainly recommend it to those parents with other therapeutic programs already in place. The activity schedules are very easily integrated into existing therapies and school environments, greatly boosting their success. I've also implimented an advanced version of activity schedules, verbally explained, with my five-year-old typical daughter - as a result the morning 'dilly-dallies' and afternoon 'hum-drums' have all but disappeared.

I would recommend that existing image programs be used whenever possible, only to cut down on the time it takes to prepare the schedules. I use Flash! Pro2, which can be found online, though there are many other graphic programs that could be used as well. (As a webmaster I've found that many of the 'web-ready' image collections contained pictures that were appropriate for this program as well as ABA and DTT programs.)

All-in-all, excellent book, flexible program, expertly explained.

Editorial Review:

Activity schedules -- simple, yet revolutionary teaching tools -- enable children with autism to accomplish activities with greatly reduced adult supervision. An activity schedule is a set of pictures or words that cues a child to engage in a sequence of activities. When activity schedules are mastered, children are more self-directed and purposeful in their home, school, and leisure activities -- doing puzzles, interacting with classmates, and preparing food with minimal assistance from adults. In this book, parents and professionals will find detailed instructions and examples to help them. Activity Schedules for Children with Autism can be used successfully with young children, adolescents, and adults, rewarding them with more control over their lives.

Wonderful! Nice to see feelings in print! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Our first child, our son Wyatt, was stillborn and it has been the most devastating event of our entire lives. I bought this book after a fellow angel parent recommended it and absolutely loved it. It is so "nice" to see all the thoughts and feelings you have after losing a child right there in print. It makes you realize you're not going crazy, that those thoughts and feelings are legitimate, and that you are not alone. I carried this book everywhere with me and would highlight phrases that were personal to me. It really helped me understand the loss of our son and give me strength and courage to go on with our lives while still keeping his memory alive. I'm so sorry to those of you having to look at this book, but I hope it can help you as much as it has helped me.

Editorial Review:

The heartache of miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant death affects thousands of U.S. families every year. Empty Cradle, Broken Heart offers reassurance to parents who struggle with anger, guilt, and despair after such tragedy. Deborah Davis encourages grieving and makes suggestions for coping. The book includes information on issues such as the death of one or more babies from a multiple birth, pregnancy interruption, and the questioning of aggressive medical intervention. There is also a special chapter for fathers as well as a chapter on "protective parenting" to help anxious parents enjoy their precious living children. Doctors, nurses, relatives, friends, and other support persons can gain special insight. Most importantly, parents facing the death of a baby will find necessary support in this gentle guide. If reading this book moves you to cry, try to accept this reaction. Your tears merge with those of other grieving parents. You are not alon! e.
