Using this book...I Passed!!! 5 out of 5 stars.
13 of 13 people found this review helpful.

Very detailed and precise, yet easy to understand information. Highly recommend it to anyone preparing to take the CMA or RMA exams. I passed my RMA exam with a high score. If you want to pass those exams, get this book! I commend the authors, they know what MA students need to know to pass those tests.

Editorial Review:

This medical assisting certification exam review book was primarily designed to prepare the medical assisting candidate to successfully pass a national medical assisting certification examination. The authors who have years of experience working in health care education struggled to find a product that was up to date, comprehensive yet concise and engaging. They also looked for a book that helped the student with study strategies, a mechanism to identify their strengths and weaknesses and develop a realistic study plan. Unable to find a book that met these needs, the authors wrote the LWW Medical Assisting Exam Review for CMA and RMA Certification. This text incorporates all those features in a "Keep it Simple Yet Effective" approach that includes humor and motivational strategies. It also offers valuable advice for organizing and maintaining an effective study group.

Just Get the BOOK!!! Yes That Good 5 out of 5 stars.
9 of 12 people found this review helpful.

Just Get the BOOK!!! Yes That Good!!! It helps you think about every aspect of a concept. Example, path & Physio of what's going on with the patient. It brings important concepts in medicine in extremely valid cases which are written "like" the NBME questions. I would rec this book 100% worth every penny!!!

good for step 1 prep 4 out of 5 stars.
6 of 15 people found this review helpful.

This is not bad as another book to have for Step1 Prep. Don't overwhelm yourself with too many books because there are ALOT of books out there. Just pick a handful becuase otherwise you will have conflicting information.

Too many mistakes, subpar to UCV 2 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book after I read all 8 UCV (Undeground Clinical Vignettes) from the same authors. I was able to compare them. Obviously it has fewer cases, most of them are identical. FA team rushed this book in production and as a result there are lots of mistakes and really inconvinient layout. My only recommendation is to buy a cheaper previous edition of UCV books (ISBN 0632045590).

Fantastic Review Tool! 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 7 people found this review helpful.

I'm taking antaomy in college and needed a way to review and study the things we cover in the lab without spending every waking moment at school. This book allows me to color each area with a different color so I can study the entire organ or specific area when reviewing for a test. I got an "A" on the first test I took after getting this book!!!

one per page 4 out of 5 stars.

The pictures are printed on the front of each page, and nothing is printed on the backs. This is an important characteristic for a coloring book. The only thing I'd like to see is a movable page-sized piece of imprint-resistant paper or plastic inside the book. It would help eliminate the imprints that occur on the page following the one you've just colored. Other than that, it is a great book.

Excellent experience 5 out of 5 stars.

The seller was very prompt in sending the book. I bought it and the next day she had already sent it, I received the book just in time to study for the test I was to take.

She also was very honest and correct about the books condition, it was in good shape with some highlighting which just saved me from having to do it!!!

Phlebotomy Exam Review 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This is an excellent text for preparing to take the ATM national exam and feel confident you will pass the exam on the first attempt. Well done questions and explanations for the answers. I used this book myself to gain confidence in preparing and taking the exam.

All the answers to my questions... 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This book offered me all I needed to prepare for the state and national exam. I am confident since studying from the book...I wonder why didn't my instructors tell us about it?? Love the CD!!

Good, but not Great. 3 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

The content of the book is very useful for anyone who has taken the course and has used the companion text and workbook series. The questions are written coming from the angle of taking the Boards. However - the cost doesn't justify the content. Also, in other program's (nursing, MA ...) exam prep. books, I have seen where listed with the answers, corresponding answers referring back to the text book. That is NOT the case in this book. Would have been helpful in this book as well since each chapter has over 100 questions.

Editorial Review:

This exam review, now in its Second Edition, prepares students for the major national certification exams in phlebotomy, including ASCP, NCA, ASPT, NPA, and AMT. In a comprehensive outline format, it includes content review and contains over 800 multiple-choice questions with answers and rationale. Also includes sample exams to encourage a comfort level in the test-taking environment. A CD-ROM with additional 150 sample test questions accompanies this helpful review manual.

In good conscience I cannot recommend this text 2 out of 5 stars.
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

This text is the required book for my Family Medicine program. While I have never been a fan of dense books, I can honestly state that this is the most cumbersome book I have read for medical school. It is dense, flows poorly, and the advise within chapters is very often contradictory.

The absolute worse feature of the book is it is very light in clinical material. It sites empirical and evidence based medicine ad nauseum, but when it mentioned a maneuver it almost never explains how it is performed, when a differential supports the use of the maneuver, and what would be a positive sign. I found this very frustrating because I needed another book to read this book!

This book lacks the most basic insights that should be gained after a Family Medicine rotation. After reading the URI chapter it offers very little practical advise for separating bacterial vs. viral infections.

The book is a great collection of guidelines and recommendations that you can share with your patients, but does not teach what you need to know to learn or practice Family Medicine. This book should be titled "Lagniappe of Family Medicine"

Editorial Review:

Written at the clerkship level, this book is a comprehensive introduction to family medicine. It is organized into three sections--principles of family medicine, preventive care, and common problems--and includes chapters on evidence-based medicine and complementary therapies. The text has a user-friendly writing style, focuses on common clinical problems, and uses case studies to show practical applications of key concepts. This edition features an updated art program, more illustrations, summaries, consistent headings, greater emphasis on evidence-based care, and more diverse family physician profiles representing varied practice settings. A companion Website offers the fully searchable text, 75 study questions, and an ExamKit of more than 300 questions with which faculty can generate tests.

Good for practice questions 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This book contains practice question sets and 2 full-length practice exams. It does not include any comprehensive subject review material. The review sections would make this book much better but obviously a lot more expensive. Kaplan does not make a review book for the OAT that includes subject review because they would prefer that you take their OAT prep course that costs over $1000. If you have other sources to use for review, this book gives you good practice questions to use to gauge your knowledge and preparation for the OAT. Overall, decent book for the money.

kaplan oat 09-10 review 5 out of 5 stars.

This book was useful with many practice questions and 2 full length tests. BUT it was the exact same questions as the 08-09 edition!! Had only a few typos. The only difference were some answer explanations, but I didn't notice.

Editorial Review:

This guide features:

*Two full-length practice exams

*Specific strategies for the computer-based exam

*Hundreds of practice questions with detailed answer explanations

*Two practice sets for every OAT question type: Natural Sciences, Reading Comprehension, Physics, Quantitative Reasoning

Second Edition, A Major Upgrade 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 7 people found this review helpful.

This book rocks. Seriously. The second edition is a serious improvement over the first. The integration with with other Lippincott reviews (Biochem & Pharm) puts this book on the must-have short-list for Step 1.

Watch out Med Micro Made Ridiculously Simple, this could and should be the new number one USMLE micro book.

Editorial Review:

Now in full color, Lippincott's Illustrated Reviews: Microbiology, Second Edition enables rapid review and assimilation of large amounts of complex information about medical microbiology. The book has the hallmark features for which Lippincott's Illustrated Reviews volumes are so popular: an outline format, 450 full-color illustrations, end-of-chapter summaries, review questions, plus an entire section of clinical case studies with full-color illustrations. This edition's medical/clinical focus has been sharpened to provide a high-yield review. Five additional case studies have been included, bringing the total to nineteen. Review questions have been reformatted to comply with USMLE Step 1 style, with clinical vignettes.

Don't waste your money. 2 out of 5 stars.
45 of 45 people found this review helpful.

This review book was assigned to my senior ultrasound program in our last quarter of classes. A colleague of mine who is a radiologic technologist had used the A&L RT review book and found it helpful, so my expectations when it was assigned were to be able to learn and to have a good array of review questions.

However, this book seems to be a compendium of outdated information rife with typos that would be hilarious if they were not so frequent. I am finding that working through it is about a 75% waste of time. Who edited this?.... Anyone?...... Anyone?

Another problem is that images are labeled wrong, or not labeled (e.g.: "Name the structure with the arrow on example 5-113," and then there is no arrow. Or worse, the arrow clearly, unmistakably points to the aorta and the answer is IVC.).

The OB/GYN chapters are better than the physics and abdomen chapters; the latter have significant errors in them. My biggest problem is that as a whole these questions require very little critical thinking and are not "pitched" at a level commensurate with what I believe the ARDMS registries require (I will update this review after taking my registries in Mar.-April).

And now, for amusement value, some of the misprints:

"posterior urethral values"
for intussusception, "intersuppection"
"pleura effusion" --- and the list goes on.

For review I would recommend the following books:

Physics:

Physical Principles of General and Vascular Ultrasonography, Jim Baun, BA, RVT, RDMS http://www.jimbaun.com/jimbaunjan05_007.htm

Understanding Ultrasound Physics, Sidney Edelman, 2nd Edition

Abdomen:

Exam Preparation for Diagnostic Ultrasound, Sanderson/Dolk/Miner

Abdomen & OB/GYN:

Clinical Guide to Ultrasound, Charlotte Hennigsen.

Editorial Review:

The most current, comprehensive question-and-answer review of diagnostic medical sonography for national certification examination preparation. This popular review covers all facets of ultrasound, including basic physics, vascular sonography, ob/gyn, transvaginal, transrectal, adult and pediatric echocardiography, and neurosonography. Includes hundreds of images and 12 pages in full color.
