Around our office, we like to refer to this book as "The Khabbalah of the Urinary Tract". Urology secrets, indeed, of the most arcane kind. Whether it's diagnosing hypoglycemia to seeing past "herbal tea" obfuscations at a drug test, this book has something for everybody. In fact, the only drawback I found to this book is it's annoying propensity to refer to urine as "wee-wee".

Nieschlag is the worlds expert on testosterone therapy 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

There is probably no other textbook on testosterone that can bring together so much information in such an authoratative way as this one. The book explores every facet of the universe of hypogonadism while providing information in a highly readable and interesting format. Very highly recommended!

Editorial Review:

A comprehensive reference on testosterone and other androgens, and their role in human physiology and pathology, this volume covers biosynthesis and mechanisms of action and reviews their effects on brain and behavior, spermatogenesis, hair growth, bones, muscles, erythropoiesis, the cardiovascular system and lipids, erection, and the prostate. Therapeutic uses of testosterone preparations are carefully evaluated, including usage by women, the aging male, and their abuse and detection in sport. The book also considers applications in male contraception, the role of 5a-reductase inhibitors and the controversial use of DHEA.

Editorial Review:

Interest in pelvic floor reconstruction has grown rapidly in recent years with increasing collaboration between urologists, gynecologists and colorectal surgeons, making this an area of interdisciplinary care. Female Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery, reflecting this multi-disciplinary field, is edited by Stuart L. Stanton, Urogynaecologist at St George's Hospital Medical School, University of London, and Philippe Zimmern, leading US Urologist at the University of Texas, with contributions by internationally known and experienced clinicians.
The book covers the surgical anatomy, urinary and faecal incontinence and their treatment, prolapse surgery, fistulae and post-operative management. With a practical slant on operative techniques, this book is well illustrated, up-to-date and authoritative.

Editorial Review:

In the course of a lifetime, more than half of all women will experience some form of debilitating pelvic disease or discomfort, including chronic urinary tract infections, various kinds of incontinence, pelvic floor prolapse, and interstitial cystitis. Surprisingly, until recently there has been only scant attention paid to this very common group of disorders, considering the vast population of sufferers. What’s more, doctors have long tended to dismiss many symptoms of urinary tract disorders as an inevitable consequence of the aging process or, worse still, as indicators of underlying psychological disease.

In this concise, clearly written, and sympathetic new book, Elizabeth Kavaler suggests that a new approach to UT disorders is long overdue. One of the surprisingly small number of female urologists practicing in the U.S., Dr. Kavaler explains what these diseases are and what patients can do to get themselves diagnosed and treated properly. But more than that, she extends an expert, sympathetic, and skilled hand to those who’ve been distressed, isolated, and embarrassed for too long.

Editorial Review:

If you are a man suffering from the unpleasant, sometimes agonizing symptoms of  prostate enlargement, you are not alone. By age 50, half of all normally virile men have some sign of the disease, called benign prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH. By age 60, 60 percent of all men suffer from it. By age 70, it is 70 percent. And by age 80, a startling 90 percent of men will suffer significant symptoms.

Most men suffer in silence, too embarrassed to admit to the discomfort that disrupts their personal and professional lives. Every day these men battle symptoms that range from the annoying to the excruciating, such as the need to urinate constantly, difficulty in urinating, incontinence, bladder infections, and the psychological implications of the disease.

But help is finally here for the millions of men who have sought, but not found, relief from this pervasive disease. In The Prostate Cure, renowned physician Harry Preuss, M.D., and Brenda Adderly, MHA, coauthor of the New York Times best-seller The Arthritis Cure, provide a revolutionary, seven-step program that will significantly reduce and even eliminate the symptoms of BPH.

This highly effective program is a radical improvement over current treatments for BPH, such as herbal supplements that don't work, prescription drugs that have side effects, and painful surgery that can cause long-term complications. In The Prostate Cure, you will find out about the miraculous nutritional supplement Cernitin, a flower pollen extract that has greatly reduced and eliminated symptoms of BPH in millions of men around the world, and is just now becoming available in the United States.  This natural approach to treating BPH is part of a larger seven-step program that promotes a healthy prostate through healthy living.

With a detailed description of the symptoms of enlarged prostate, a thorough analysis of all available treatments for BPH, a complete guide to the history and efficacy of Cernitin, and an aggressive program that combines diet, exercise, and Cernitin in an accessible way, The Prostate Cure offers help and hope to millions of men who thought that there would never be a cure for prostate enlargement.

End the silence on the pain, discomfort, and distress suffered by millions of men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). In this breakthrough book you will find:
The complete story of a remarkable natural flower pollen extract called Cernitin that has greatly reduced and often fully cured the symptoms of BPH in men all over the world--and now will be widely available in the United States.
New research on the effectiveness of popular herbal supplements such as saw palmetto, pygeum, and stinging nettle.
Information on the different surgical treatments for BPH, and how much of the time painful surgery is not necessary.
An easy-to-follow, seven-step proactive program that will improve overall health, renew virility, and alleviate the unpleasant symptoms of BPH.

Editorial Review:

Chronic Prostatitis is a common and debilitating condition affecting 5-12% of men worldwide. The most common form is category III, or Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome. Cutting-edge clinical research has led to advancements in the diagnosis and treatment of prostatitis, a group of conditions that is at once extremely common, poorly understood, inadequately treated and under-researched. In Chronic Prostatitis/Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome, the author provides today’s most current information covering the four categories of prostatitis (acute, chronic bacterial, CPPS and asymptomatic inflammation). A diverse international group of contributors that includes urologists (academic, primary care and front line private practice), scientists, psychologists, and pain specialists from the National Institutes of Health provide the reader with novel approaches to helping their patients. The chapters in this important new work cover general evaluation of the prostatitis patient, the approach to acute prostatitis, chronic bacterial prostatitis and chronic pelvic pain syndrome, evidence behind individual therapies and ancillary topics such as erectile dysfunction, infertility, the link between chronic prostatitis and prostate cancer, male interstitial cystitis and the potential etiologic role of calcifying nanoparticles. Chronic Prostatitis/Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome offers novel approaches to diagnosing this condition as well as providing ways in which to ease the suffering of the patient with prostatitis.

Extremely Informative and Helpful 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I stumbled upon this book in a used book store just as I was searching for answers that my doctor was unable to give. It was very helpful in answering questions on all types of female urology problems including surgery and non-surgery solutions, how to find the best doctor, what you can do to help yourself, diagnosis, etc. It helped me find a doctor and a solution and I still rely on it as a great source of information. It is very easy to read and gives a person hope!

Editorial Review:

Millions of women experience difficulties controlling their bladders but suffer in silence, reluctant to speak to their doctors -- or even to their best friends -- about the problem. Here, at last, women will find the most up-to-date medical explanations and state-of-the-art solutions, including:

  • Controversial links between current childbirthing practices -- like episiotomy, the use of forceps, and long labor -- and the development of incontinence later in life.

  • Advanced diagnostic tests that enable women to quickly find the most effective treatment.

  • Nonsurgical treatments: pelvic muscle exercises and oral medications that really work.

  • Surgical options featuring new minimally invasive outpatient procedures.
