Boba Fett 5 out of 5 stars.

This is the second book in the Boba Fett series. I highly recommend this book, and I recommend the other books in this series, too:

-Maze of Deception (#3)
-Hunted (#4)
-A New Threat (#5)
-Pursuit (#6)

Boba Fett 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 8 people found this review helpful.

This was the second in a series about the future bounty hunter, Boba Fett. With his father dead, Boba finds Count Dooku (an employer of Boba's father, Jango) on a garbage planet. He sneeks around and figures out that Dooku is trying to find the Ultimate Force (I don't know the exact name that they gave it.) Later, Clone Troopers attack the planet and rescue Boba as an orphan. Boba then lives on a huge ship in outer space. He decides to now search for his ship, Slave I which was captured by another Bounty Hunter, Aurra Sing. Sing is actually following the space ship to hunt for jedi. When both ships land on a moon, Aurra Sing and Boba Fett team up to get off of the planet. Sing agrees to help Fett get his father's money as long as she gets half. The book ends as the two leave into deep space. You'll want to read the next book in the series, Deceptions, after finishing this one.

Editorial Review:

Boba Fett is trapped in the lair of someone who he thinks is a friend... but is really an enemy. Escape becomes the only option, though attempting to escape has its own risks. Boba must survive to fight for what he believes in... and must also fight to surviv

The other side of Jango Fett. The man behind the mask. 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

This book was way better and more interesting to read than the other books about Boba Fett. It has more depth than the Boba Fett Dark Horse Comics. If you have not read this book, let me tell you that you are missing out on a lot!

The story speaks of relationships and the circle of life. You can relate to Boba Fett as you read about his relationship with his father, Jango Fett. It reminds you of young Anakin Skywalker who has a mother but no father. You get the opposite where Boba has a father and wished he had a mother. But it draws more from that. Witness Boba grow from an innocent wishful boy into the fearsome bounty hunter he becomes. It was very saddening to read about how Boba took the death of Zam Wesell, the sea-mice, and eventually his own father. Even the scene with Boba's only friend, Whrr touched me.

Boba is not the brutal killer as you think he is. This is a man who goes through many life experiences and valuable lessons. This is what made him stand out among the bounty hunters. Read this book!

Editorial Review:

Boba Fett is the son (and clone) of Jango Fett, the most dangerous bounty hunter in the galaxy. But when Jango is killed, Boba must fend for himself -- against some very powerful enemies.

Very diverse reading 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Bears Discover Fire is the classic SF story, using SF/Fantasy themes perfectly to truly explore human emotional struggles. It's my favorite SF story right now, replacing "I have no mouth but I must scream", by Ellison.

Bisson writes with a quirkiness that's quite endearing, and his characters always seem quite real(except on those short short short stories where 2-D characters suffice for getting his 'punchline' across). In short, this is a great book.

Some very good stories 4 out of 5 stars.

I'm surprised there are so few reviews here. This book deserves to be wider read.

I first read a Bisson story ten years ago in Omni -- "They're Made of Meat." I loved it. Very short, all dialogue, a great ending line... It's still one of my favorites of all time.

To be honest, all of these stories are not fantastic. Some kind of leave you rubbing your head, like "The Coon Suit." What the heck was that?! But there are about ten very good stories in here that are worth the price of the book. Bisson writes in a way that is easy to read, even if the ideas don't always grab you. His snappier, dialogue-heavy stories are my favorite.

Give this one a try.

Editorial Review:

Bears Discover Fire is the first short story collection by the most acclaimed science fiction author of the decade, author of such brilliant novels as Talking Man and Voyage to the Red Planet. It brings together nineteen of Bisson's finest works for the first time in one volume, among them the darkly comic title story, which garnered the field's highest honors, including the Hugo, Nebula, Theodore Sturgeon, and Locus awards.

NOT BAD, NOT BAD 3 out of 5 stars.
8 of 8 people found this review helpful.

A taxi driver, a monk, a D.J., and a supreme being are thrown together into the battle to save earth from Evil, a giant ball of volcanic rock plumeting towards our world.

The novelization contains Bisson's usual rich prose, but the mostly visual film doesn't exactly translate all that well to written form.

Most of the humor comes from a wacky narrative in the style of Douglas Adams.

About half way through the book, extreme differences from the film appear. It makes one wonder if the studio ever updated Bisson on script changes.

The story itself is fun. The characters often goofy. But differences from the film somewhat deter our interest.

But it's not all that bad.

Editorial Review:

Every 5,000 years, a door opens between the dimensions. In one dimension lies the universe and all of its multitude of varied life forms. In another exists an element made not of earth, air, fire or water, but anti-energy, anti-life. This "thing, " this darkness, waits patiently at the threshold of the universe for an opportunity to extinguish all life and all light. Every 5,000 years, the universe needs a hero, and in New York City of the 23rd Century, a good hero is hard to find. The film stars Bruce Willis, Gary Oldman, Ian Holm and Milla Jovovich.

Editorial Review:

Originally published in Asimov's Science Fiction as the short stories "The Edge of the Universe," "Get Me to the Church on Time," and "The Hole in the Hole," this inventive and quirky novel combines the stories, featuring the inspired adventures of Wilson Wu, a jack-of-all-trades who uses his eclectic background to solve a variety of wacky futuristic dilemmas. An Ivy League graduate, Wu is a rock musician, a Volvo mechanic, a trial lawyer, a camel driver, an aeronautics engineer, an entomological meteorologist, and, most importantly, a math wizard with a formula for every occasion. A godsend for his friends and the universe, Wu uses his eclectic skill set to prevent the imminent collapse of the universe, guarantee good weather for an Alabama wedding, and tow an abandoned lunar rover from the surface of the moon to a junkyard in Brooklyn. Irreverent and inventive, these adventures exemplify Bisson's smart, hilarious, and satirical style that has earned him Hugo and Nebula awards and comparisons to Mark Twain and Kurt Vonnegut.

Editorial Review:

In the late twentieth century, Admiral Julian 3rd can get no rest, for he knows his future. He will be reborn as his grandson in the next century to journey through space and make an ominous discovery inside the moon; he will live again in the dark years of the twenty-second century as Julian 9th, who refuses to bow down to the victorious Moon Men; and as Julian 20th, the fierce Red Hawk, he will lead humanity's final battle against the alien invaders in the twenty-fifth century. The Moon Maid is Edgar Rice Burroughs's stunning epic of a world conquered by alien invaders from the moon and of the hero Julian, who champions the earth's struggle for freedom, peace, and dignity.
The most complete version of The Moon Maid saga ever made available, this edition contains the story as published serially, along with numerous passages, sentences, and words excised from the magazine version or added later by the author. This edition also features an introduction by Terry Bisson, new illustrations by Thomas Floyd, the classic frontispiece by J. Allen St. John, essays by scholar Richard J. Golsan and writer Phillip R. Burger, a glossary by Scott Tracy Griffin, and a compendium of alterations to the text.

Imaginative Glimpse Into A Child's Mind 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Terry Bisson's story about a boy and his toy bulldozer reveals in crisp, clean prose, deep insight into a child's mind. It reminded me of Ray Bradbury's "The Veldt" with its quiet narrative that takes the reader into a dark world where horror exists even on a bright day drenched in sunshine. Bisson shows a deft hand in the art of the short story. Young readers should enjoy this imaginative study of innocence gone awry, while admitting they, too, might harbor such secret thoughts of revenge against adults.

Editorial Review:

My “Billy” stories are an attempt to capture in words, like a fly in corn syrup, the joy and the nightmare of being young. They’re perfect for reading aloud to children you hope never to see again.

I've not seen the movie yet, but I wanted to read the bok anyway. I loved it. I can't wait to go see the film this weekend!

Also, this is the second movie novelization I've read by Terry Bisson. I believe Bisson also wrote the novelization for The Fifth Element. I really must check out Bisson's work unrelated to film. I heartily recommend this bok.

Best Ever by a Living Author 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 10 people found this review helpful.

This is Terry Bisson's best work. Never to be duplicated, this novel is the best available of any living author.

Far better than his other great efforts.

Criminally underappreciated 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 5 people found this review helpful.

This is a wonderful contemporary fantasy about a magic man who owns a car repair shop. The young protagonist has to convince him to fix an old car and drive with him to the North Pole. Bisson creates one surreal scenario after another that, though they seem unbelievable, are so palatable they go down like honey.

Bisson's writing is masterful and engaging. It should be a felony for this book to be out of print. Find your self a copy and read. Really.

One of you editors who read this review should get this book back on the shelves.

PS I love Bisson but I seem to be the only one around who doesn't understand the story, "Bears Discover Fire." And I went to graduate school and everything! Anyone out there feel like enlightening me?

And you thought ascending an elevator was a pointless activity, hm? 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Well, you'd be wrong with that broad assessment, bucko. It sure as you-know-what isn't!

Author Terry Bisson does a smooth and handy job of painting a clearer picture (if somewhat halcyon-ed, but he gets A-for-effort and ten-plus points for trying) of the way the world should really function between people in this sweet little number of his entitled, A SPECIAL DAY.

To tell you truth--since it's possible I lie to you in other places as part of these many reviews I make--if I'd have had my way in this Short, I'd have forwarded my nominations for at least a number of other macabre and off-beat socially-outcast type characters in this mixed crew of seeming fish out of water, suspended 78 floors in the skyscraper-ed sky in the Big Apple.

Gosh, you know...you've got to love how someone can pack so much into such a short amount of space! Bisson's content is better than chunk light tuna (although I don't know about that succulent white meat in the peel back tin--there's more protein in there than...).

I've heard many people flippantly say how Shorts are easy to write...how they're cheesy one-offs for wannabe writers who don't have the brass spheres and the "sitsfleisch" to actually pound out the opening sequence, and then some, of the Great American Novel.

Phooey! I don't buy a word of it!

"Short-shorts" (and their close relative, "short-short-shorts," or Shorts-to-the-Power-of-Three) are quite the complex little beasties. Hey, you over there in the office cubicle, munching away on your Jonagold or the Granny Smith apple, or worse, eating your little cardboard box of MSG-sprayed Chinese takeout while hardly having a chance to leave your station for fear of missing that all-hail so important stock quote...***you*** think it's easy to jimmy in a beginning-a middle-and an end sequence within the high-pressured close-quartered confines of eleven (11) pages?!

Well try again, my friend.

Rather, we should be turning to the likes of authors like Mr. Bisson for some pointers on the finer aspects of the slimming craft.

A SPECIAL DAY is as good as anything I've read at the Shorts program already, and I recommend the read. If it affects you as it did me, then we indeed have hope for a less confrontational tomorrow.

Perhaps one day we can establish small islands of peace in places were people can just get along.

If they can do it in New York, they can do it anywhere. Like Frankie sang, "If I can make it there, I can make it anywhere. It's up to you, New York, New York!"

Editorial Review:

A certain NY magazine asked me to write a story for their 9/11 Fifth Anniversary issue. The assignment was: imagine that 9/11/2001 never happened. They rejected my story as “sentimental.” I plead guilty. The action here is on 9/11/2006. A perfectly ordinary day, but special to some….
