I thought it was great! 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

It was better than I expected. I am a big Dinotopia fan, and not all of the books in the series have satisfied me. I'd have to say that this one is one of the best three. The other two being The Lost City and Firestorm. Anyway, I really enjoyed this book, and most Dinotopian lovers probably will too.

Not as good as the rest but OK. 4 out of 5 stars.

Rescue Party isn't as good as the other Dinotopia books but I still enjoyed the dino-and-human idea that Dinotopia is based on. I enjoyed River Quest and Lost City more than Rescue Party.

Editorial Review:

Every day, Loro enviously watches caravans of armored Brachiosaurs leave his town and cross the bridge into the dangerous jungles of the Rainy Basin. Someday, he promises himself, he will go there too. Then a deadly storm sweeps over Dinotopia, and the Brachiosaurs go to help the towns that were hit the hardest. So when a hot-air balloon crashes into the jungle, Loro and his friends know they are the only ones who can help. Loro's dream will finally come true, but can he survive the perils of the Rainy Basin?

STV #7 Ghost of a Chance - An interesting premise! 3 out of 5 stars.
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

"Ghost of a Chance" is the first of only two Star Trek novels by Mark Garland and the only one with Charles G. McGraw. While I found the premise of this story to be a very interesting one, the plot setup, execution and pacing to be somewhat troubling, detracting from the experience of the book. The saving grace for this novel is the authors' characterizations which were pretty good.

The cover art for this novel is pretty much the standard fare for when it was published, somewhat bland.

The premise:

While making an attempt to plus up the ships supply of deuterium, Voyager encounters a brown dwarf star, causing a great amount of damage. Chakotay starts having "visions" and believes they're linked to one of the planets in the Drenar system where they encountered the brown dwarf.

They soon discover that many of them are having visions and since the engines are in need of repair that will take several days, they decided to explore Drenar Four and discover a primitive civilization and their plight, severe volcanic stresses. The question of violating the Prime Directive comes immediately into play. An alien ship soon enters the picture, the Televek and they offer aid to both Voyager and the planets inhabitants but Captain Janeway finds their offer questionable and she soon finds herself in a quagmire...

While "Ghost of a Chance" isn't among the top Star Trek Voyager books available I would still recommend it as an interesting read in the series. {ssintrepid}

Editorial Review:

Badly damaged in a close encounter with a dwarf star, the "VoyagerTM discovers a planet being torn apart by tremendous volcanic stresses. The planet's primitive inhabitants will surely perish unless the "Voyager intervenes -- but the Prime Directive forbids them to act. And then the dilemma is increased by the arrival of another starship, a Televek vessel, whose crew offer to help both the "Voyager and the people of the crumbling planet. But Janeway senses something amiss with their saviors, and she's haunted by ghostly visions warning her of a threat that make her loathe to accept anything from the Televek, even though they may be her only hope.

A Quark DS9 novel. 3 out of 5 stars.
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

Although Sisko and O'Brien are on the cover, this DS9 novel is about the trials and errors of Quark. Greed and the need for more profit are the evils which bring about the plot of this novel.

Although not the best of the DS9 novels, a definate must for Quark fans.

ST:DS-9 Trial by Error 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Trial by Error written by Mark Garland is a Quark book, as Quark hatches another scheme and his greed brings Deep Space Nine under attack.

This book lays a ground work and starts out slow, but don't lose heart as it wraps-up with plenty of action. Quarks is known for his enterprising schemes some of which are suspect for being legal. Odo wouldn't mind seeing Quark falling flat on his face while a scheme backfires, we see Quark trading with a Gamma Quadrant race... a lucrative deal to trade trellium crystals from the gamma Quadrant for gold-pressed latinum. Quark will realize enormous profits, but there is a catch.

Quark thinks this is too good to be true... and of course it is as we see Quarks scheme beginning to fall apart as the Gamma Quadant race, Quarks trading partners has enemies. Now, this distrust begins to tarnish the deal as a third alien race from the Gamma Quadrant begins to suspect theft, piracy or worse... as we known things that a Ferengi is good at including guile, cunning, trickery, and deceitfulness.

Now, all three alien races begin to distrust each other and the well-being of Deep Space Nine is in jeopardy. Klingons and Ferengi also get involved and now a shooting war breaks out and the action really gets heated-up. I found the book to be a quick, fast read as Quark's brokering gets him into trouble. The book fleshs out the character of Quark and we get a better sense of to what extent Quark will go to make gold-pressed latinum.

Editorial Review:

When Quark brokers a lucrative deal to trade trellium crystals from the Gamma Quadrant for gold-pressed latinum, the potential for profit seems too good to be true.

It is. Pretty soon, Deep Space Nine is under fire from at least three different alien races, each accusing the others of theft, piracy, and worse. Then, angry Klingons get involved, and so do the Ferengi...

Odo wouldn't mind seeing one of Quark's schemes backfire, but not when it places the entire station in the middle of a shooting war that might consume them all!

A very good read.I have yet to read Demonblade which Frost is a prequel for,but with the way it read I am looking forward to it!

I read a lot of SF and fnatasy for pleasure and usually will finish a book even if it's not very good. This one, however, I had trouble even skimming.Confusing and not very interesting plot with characters that lacked depth. And on top of that it was full of typos in the parts I did read. A total waste of time and money, IMHO.

Editorial Review:

THE LEAST OF FOUR EVILS

Frost, one of the world's great sorcerors, now possesses the Demon Blade, perhaps the most powerful (and dangerous) weapon ever created -- but he doesn't want it. Trouble is, plenty of others do, so he must not let it go until he finds the Blade's rightful guardian. But to do that he must return home. And that means facing those who betrayed him in his youth, as well as those whom he betrayed. It means facing who and what he was, and what he has become.

He will arrive to find a land on the brink of war, his greatest enemy on the throne, himself the target of plots by lords and mages alike, and soon enough, family he didn't even know he had held ransom for the Demon Blade. Now he must choose among the least of four evils, and new, unimagined consequences he is only beginning to comprehend...
