The ultimate Forgotten Realms dungeon crawl 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

In Ed Greenwood's finest adventure, the most famous super-dungeon of the Forgotten Realms comes to vivid life in this grim, inspiring masterpiece of dark dungeon delving. The format is totally open-ended - the upper-works are exhaustively and ingeniously described over 160 pages, and the new monsters, cunning traps, and 4 colossal poster maps will tempt you to create your own endless evil schemes to fill out the rest! A dungeon so deep that even Elminster has no idea what lies below... a true classic, and highly recommended.

The best AD&D Module available. period. 5 out of 5 stars.

dungeon crawl, puzzles, mystery, intrigue, politics, saga, love, hate, murder,.. everything is here. this was the first box i ever bought for AD&D and the group was so swept up into it that we would play for hours and love every minute of it we couldnt wait for the next session, most of the time we would decide to play the very next day

If you find it, BUY IT! It's worth it, and rare! 5 out of 5 stars.

Aspirations of a Mage 5 out of 5 stars.
20 of 23 people found this review helpful.

I bought this module and convinced my DM to allow my character a shot at becoming the Magister. After successfully attaining that high esteemed place, she was continuously was bombarded by mages attempting to destroy her (and thusly quickly raised herself to phenomenal strength). This module does not tell you how to role play the magister...it tells you what comes along with being the Magister, what you must do and a long history of the Magister. The people below seem to forget that Ed Greenwood created Forgotten Realms and whatever he says goes. Sure the Magister is a powerful person but wouldn't it take a more powerful mage to take her down? You see PCs who live long enough to reach high level should be rewarded with such honors and that is what this book is for. It is an excellent way to retire a mage who has done everything. The key to this module is how the DM uses it not what the module says.

Editorial Review:

The Magister of Mystra is one of the most mysterious beings in all of the Forgotten Realms setting: a unique wizard with a singular title. All the essential Realmslore concerning the Magister is in this book. The answers Realms fans have wanted for years are all here. With the secrets revealed in this book, a player character may even become the Magister!

Raven's Bluff - Splendid AD&D Setting! 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Okay, so I actually like a recent TSR publication, and why not? It is a well written tome filled with skads of detail of a place that has until recently been the purview of the RPGA. Greenwood does an excellent job in detailing the city-and most importantly, the families of note complete with histories! Wow! Best of all, it isn't overly replete with characters who made pacts with every god and major demon lord to get where they are. Aside from Greenwood's obsession with mages and the fact that there are just too darn many of them to be found anywhere in the Realms, Raven's Bluff is an ideal book to base a series of adventures, but I wouldn't run a campaign in it. It could have done with a better thieves guild, but other than that, this is well written book, and it's layout and maps are extremely well done. Well worth the money.

cool book 5 out of 5 stars.

never having played on toril this book was a real pleaser. it opened up a different part of faerun that has, in the past, been limited to those belonging to rpga. lots of info, history and cool stuff. is it obvious yet that i like the book?

Classic look at the culture and the world of Dwarves 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

Welcome to the Netherworld! In this, one of the most fascinating sourcebooks in the vaunted FR series, Ed Greenwood takes you into the caverns far below the Forgotten Realms... where the Dwarves, a proud and dying race, do battle with the never-ending legions of humanoids, and spill their royal blood in their vicious battles against the Dragons who have stolen their ancient treasures. A grim, dark, and wonderful book, which will give you enough depth and drama for an entire Dwarven campaign! Highly recommended, for anyone who plays Dwarves, or enjoys Underdark epics.

Fantastic Assessory!! 5 out of 5 stars.

I was lucky enough to purchase this book when it came out and have never seen it for sale since. Combine this book with the Complete book of Dwarves and you have everything you need for a Dwarven campaign setting. This is extremly useful even if you aren't playing dwarves but they are being used as NPC's in a campaign setting. Everything you ever wanted to know about Dwarves but were afraid to ask. A must have!!

Partial but evocative glimpse of the most famous Realmscity 4 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

Here it is, the classic sourcebook that started it all! Ed Greenwood explores the most intriguing city of adventure for AD&D - Waterdeep, the colossal tradeport on the verge of the Savage Frontier! Details include the dungeons below, famous personages, endless lines of shops, huge reams of intrigue and plot ideas and adventure hooks, and yes, the colossal map of the city itself... a wonderful sourcebook for all DMs, because it shows how to make the cities even more interesting than the dungeons!

Good introduction to The Diamond Throne and Arcana Unearthed 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

As a stand-alone book, this book is certainly not one of the best fantasy books I've read ( Check out some Michael Moorcock books if that's what you're itching for. )

However, it is certainly a good introduction to the Diamond Throne setting for Arcana Unearthed, and it's in fact something I made part of the mandatory reading for my Diamond Throne campaigns. It is good, as it's full of suspense and action, and the fact that it imbues a feeling of verisimilitude, which is very good.

This book is, in my opinion, much better than most of the Forgotten Realms books released nowadays.

A nice introduction to the land of the Diamond Throne 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

As with any anthology some stories in this set were better than others. Some were average some were quite good. Most had interesting characters and lots of action.

The set also provided a nice introduction to the land of the Dimond Throne, the setting for Monte Cook's Arcana Unearthed RPG.

My only complaint (and it is a minor one) is that the authors seemed to assume that the readers are familiar with setting and used races and/or monsters that are unique to the world. This is fine, but in some cases I would have liked to have a little more description of these races in order to know how they differed from other fantasy mainstays (such as humans, elves, dwarves, etc). But this did not take away from the stories which were enjoyable.

Volo's wanderings pay off for DMs 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Ed Greenwood does it again! Volo's Guide to the Dalelands is a book that you don't want to do without if you're a DM that is fond of the Dalelands region of the Forgotten Realms. It's got the always enjoyable style of Volo, with comments (and of course, witty remarks!) thrown in from Elminster.

Besides all that, it's full of little tidbits of information that you, as the DM, can work with to make stories jump out just from a whisper of a hint of an idea.

And, as always, the listings and descriptions of various inns, taverns, shops, etc. are invaluable to giving your players a feel for the game.
