You've prepared your child for reading - refrigerator magnets down low and easy to reach; letter sounds taught. Your child can proudly spell his or her name. The Bob book series are excellent for encouraging very beginning readers. Each page has only a few words and kids who are just beginning to sound out and read the stories. This makes them want to keep learning. The only thing to watch out for is kids sometimes memorize the books if they read only one or two over and over so you need to mix them up to have them actually read the books.

I've been using these with my 4 and 5 year olds and they both love them.

My daughter was having a hard time reading. When the books arrive, she started reading immediately. It was amazing. I totally recommend Bob Books to beginnger readers.

I teach Kindergarten, and these little books are just perfect for beginning readers. Also, although the pictures are very simple line drawings, the text and drawings are clever and often humorous.

These book sets are AWESOME! I originally purchased these sets for my daughter who wanted to learn to read when she was 3 years old. She quickly picked up the word patterns and was reading at a 2nd to 3rd grade level by Kindergarten. Now, at 12, she's reading at a post high school level. I recently reordered all the sets for my nephew who was struggling at his 1st grade level. He didn't like to read, but these books give kids the instant gratification and feeling of accomplishment and now he can't wait to move to the next book! Books are worth every penny!

I love these Bob books. I bought sets 1-5. My boys are still on the first box and they are cruising right through. Kindergarten and first grade. It is GREAT to find a set that introduces new word families and then reinforces them. You won't be disappointed. The drawings are so simple but my kids really do relate.

We have really enjoyed this series. My son, who just completed kindergarten, has used the series over the course of the year. The cartoons are funny, the text builds from set to set in a logical way. The box design gives kids a great feeling of accomplishment and let's them set goals -- we set up a card with stickers. My son gets one each time he reads a book in the set and when he's done with a box, he gets to go the bookstore to choose a book. The books build his confidence as a new reader and develop new skills in a more gradual and coherent way than other series I've seen, which claim they are for new readers but don't have a logical progression in the language they use. These books do.

My son is 5 and NOW can read all of the Bob books. He really loves them and we don't have to "make" him read them. I highly recommend the entire Bob Book collection.

The Bob Books series have been great for my homeschooled five year old. He has gone from just knowing his basic letter sounds to reading or attempting to read most everything he can get his hands on in about four months. These books were great for practice and building his confidence. I highly recommend the series.

Most books that claim to be "easy readers" require a first-second grade reading level. Bob Books start out at a much lower level. To read book 1 the child must know only "m" "a" "t" and "s." I have seen no other readers that start at such a basic level.

My children love the characters and feel so good about their reading ability. Only Bob Books afford them the feeling of accomplishment that comes from finishing a whole book. When I first purchased them I was a bit surprised at how "homemade" they seemed, but now I see how perfect they really are for new readers.

My daughters used Bob Books in 1980 to learn to read. They loved the stories and took great pride in reading to their pre-school class. It is no wonder that I return to buy a set for my Granddaughter . . . I know she will love Sam, Max and all the others as much as her mom and aunties did! Your child's esteem will soar as they progress through the books. This is a 5 star buy for your child.

my daughter started reading bob books before she turned four. she loves them because it systematically teaches her the tougher words using illustrative pictures and repetitive and rhyming words. the books are just the right size and page length making her feel proud that she has completed them.

My 4 year old is using Siegfried Engelmann's Teach Your Child To Read In 100 Easy Lessons, which she loves. I've started giving her Bob books to read as she is ready for each one, and she loves those too; it's a big thrill for her to be able to read a whole book, and the Bob books manage to put fun and humor into very basic stories. I thought this activity book would be fun too. Unfortunately, it doesn't measure up. It doesn't speak to a consistent reading level like the books do. (It starts with MAT - fine, but by page 3, we're on APPLESAUCE?!?) Therefore, it has none of that "I read it myself!" appeal. The "activities" consist mainly of instructions to circle or underline all occurrences of a given letter on a page, color in an object, or place a sticker in the appropriate box. I expect we'll be able to get our $3 value out of the cute illustrations & captions, but mainly by making up our own activities rather than by doing the suggested busywork.
