Editorial Review:

It's a long hot summer. Temperatures are soaring and a strange creature has been spotted on Dartmoor. Connie Lionheart and her friends soon discover that the creature is a chimera. When it attacks Connie, leaving her gravely wounded, Col and Rat must rescue her from hospital: she needs treatment beyond the knowledge of mortals. But a weakened Connie is easy prey for the evil shapeshifter Kullervo. He believes that, finally, the time is ripe for him to seize her Universal power, gather his army of mythical beings, and wipe out humanity. The battle between him and Connie will be a fight to the death. And the prize will be the future of mankind.

A Happy Holiday Story 5 out of 5 stars.

I think this book is a good holiday book. It really gets you in the mood for the holiday you're waiting for, especially Christmas. It's about the four kids in this series. Melody, Howie and Eddie doubt this, but Liza thinks that there is something special at Bailey Stables, a unicorn. Eddie wants to prove her wrong so he cooks up a plan to show her she's wrong. Find out if Eddie's plan is successful, or if there really is something magical at the stables. It's guaranteed that you'll like this book.

great book report 4 out of 5 stars.

This is about 4 kids who thinks they saw a unicorn. There was unicorn magic happening in Baily City. Mr. Wither's a stable owner donated his business to Baily City. Thanks to the 4 kids they helped keep the stable and other animals safe and clean. A dog and cat appeared by magic in the barn. This is the place where the unicorn maybe lived. The 4 kids tried to do funny things to see if the unicorn really is a horse or is a real unicorn. Do you think so?

I made a barn out of a shoebox and made my story inside the box. I made a scene of all the things that happened in this book. I turned this project into our teacher Mrs. South at school. 3rd grade

Editorial Review:

The Bailey Elementary third graders suspect Mr. Withers doesn't really have a unicorn at Bailey Stables.

Wyrns, Wyverns, Serpents and Others -- Awesome! 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

I love this pop-up book. I only wish I'd had it when I was going through my dinosaur phase. It's beautiful to look at, with just enough "gross out" factors in the (excellent) text to keep kids riveted. DRAGON WORLD is full of new, fascinating information and convinced me that there really may have been dragons roaming the earth sometime after the dinosaurs died off - even in North America. Scientists discovered fossils they believe may have belonged to dragons. Yes, dragon fossils! I took two neighborhood boys Christmas shopping and the eleven-year-old was slumped against the wall reading DRAGON WORLD when the six-year-old wanted to look on, too. The little guy went cuckoo over the pop-ups. The golden dragon of the Far East is particularly awesome. We bought four copies, two for the boys and two for their friends. Mom and Dad told me the pop-ups have withstood many poppings in the past three days and show no signs of wear.

The book design is excellent, and the colors are gorgeous. If you like the cover (I did), then you and your kids will really enjoy the astonishing, well-organized contents. This book can open up a child's imagination to the mysteries of life, as well as to the relevance of traditional world myths - from European fire-breathers to the feathered Quetzelcoatal of the Mayan culture. I have one caveat: it's probably not so good for children of Creationists or for those who are of the persuasion that reading the Harry Potter books is sinful. I highly recommend DRAGON WORLD for most other kids, though, of any age. I think it's worth more than the $16.00 list price, but won't complain on that score. I'll just take it as a gift from the publisher.

Editorial Review:

From the makers of Dragons: A Pop-Up Book of Fantastic Adventures comes another delightful pop-up adventure.

How have they behaved across the centuries? These questions and more find surprising answers in vibrant pop-up scenes. Dramatically presented with dynamic paper engineering, these magnificent dragons fly out as you turn the pages.

Another winner in the Moongobble series 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

My 5 and 6 year old boys liked this even more than The Dragon of Doom. As I read it to them, they laughed out loud at Moongobble's magical failures and particularly his curses, "Dad rat monkey fat!" There are many engaging illustrations, although I always wish for more in a book like this. Particularly recommended to younger readers who aren't yet ready for Spiderwick. Can't wait for the Evil Elves!

More excellence from Bruce Coville 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

The Moongobble books, while at a 9 YO reading independent reading level, are fine fare for the 5 and 6 YO set who enjoy a good solid story time. The ideas are simple while the vocabulary leaps just enough ahead to make 'em reach. Great stories, great vocabulary and excellent illustrations make these fine gifts for small kids who love to be read to, and bigger kids who love to read.

Editorial Review:

Moongobble and Edward are back for another adventure, this time venturing to the Forest of Night in search of the Weeping Werewolf. The quest is Moongobble’s, but what they find will change Edward’s life forever. More high adventure and high hilarity for younger listeners. Grown ups will find themselves laughing along as well!

Good choice 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

My son (5 1/2) just finished this book and he loved it, so much that Im buying more of the series. One comment though: the pictures are so cool that he had a hard time focusing on the words, but he finished it on his own while he was in time out. Bottom line: Im buying more because I know he will read by himself, no pressure need it !!

Great for getting young readers excited 4 out of 5 stars.

This had my son (5 1/2) so exicited about reading, I immediately bought more. He loves acting out the characters and using voices for each. He and his cousins enjoy this one and other comics. They read them over and over. I am a Mom that does not like the fighting in the Hiro series. But the kids will say that Hiro is their favorite of the comics.

Editorial Review:

It's phonics! It's comics! It's awesome! Perfect for early and developing readers, each paperback includes three exciting, easy-to-read stories! Level 1 titles feature easy-to sound out words, simple sentences, strong picture clues and beginning sight words.

Cute story, fun for child 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I searched and searched for an appropiate unicorn story for my daughter's 6th birthday party, and this one was the winner! I read it to her before the party and she enjoyed putting the jewel stickers on. The story was still a hit with other girls at the party, even without placing jewel stickers. There is mention of an elf, fairies, and a dragon, but none are the least bit scary. I definitely recommend this book.

A Great Read-Aloud Favorite 5 out of 5 stars.

This book has engrossing pictures to keep your little one interested while you read the story. The stickers can be used on the pages as suggested in the text or some children (like mine) might prefer to use them as "earrings" or for sticker albums. The story isn't exactly suspenseful, but it makes perfect bedtime reading.

Captivating magic! 5 out of 5 stars.

Jewel is a unicorn who follows her bliss -- she's out to hook up with her fantastic pals, but has lots of adventures along the way! She encounters elves, fairies, caves and swamps, and adds her magical sparkle to everything she touches. Lively pictures filled with detail -- so much magic in every page. If you love unicorns, you'll find Jewel absolutely enchanting!

Interesting story, beautiful illustrations 5 out of 5 stars.
15 of 15 people found this review helpful.

At our library, I gather books for teachers to pick up and check out for use with their lesson plan subjects. I always pull Lynne Cherry's Kapok Tree for teachers who are teaching about rainforests. When I saw "The Dragon and the Unicorn," I knew I had to order it for the teachers and kids. I wasn't disappointed and don't think our library's patrons will be disappointed, either! The illustrations are not only rich and colorful, they're creative in their design and range. The plot moved at a good pace - not sluggish, nor too much detail, nor too much preachy "do this," "don't do that." Kids will like the gentle, but fiercely protective dragon and the wise, magical unicorn who he protects. Kids will also enjoy taking the journey with Arianna into the world in which the dragon, unicorn, and many other animals live, and where they are being threatened by Arianna's father's destruction of the forests. The resolution of the problem of the king's allowing the forest's destruction is satisfying without being too pat or easy.

Editorial Review:

Valerio the dragon and Allegra the unicorn have always lived happily amid the majestic trees of the Ardet Forest, and in harmony with the animals that call the forest home. But one day Valerio discovers King Orlando cutting down trees to build a shelter. Only the king's young daughter, Arianna, seems sympathetic to the animals who are losing their homes. But can she save them all before it is too late?

Great for ANY age 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I love dragons, so picking up this book was a no-brainer--even though I'm a long way out of the "target age group" (never mind how far). Like all the great quest stories, this book has great characters, mysteries, dangers, and unexpected heroes. Though a super-fast read for me, I was never bored. In fact, as it progressed, I didn't want to put it down. Like with Harry Potter, it doesn't matter what age you are--you will love this book!

Editorial Review:

For fans of The New York Times best-selling A Practical Guide to Dragons, a new series of fantasy fiction focusing on the power of dragonkind.

The Dragon Codices chronicle adventures with each of ten dragons of Krynn. From the fiery, evil red dragon to the playful copper, each dragon's tale is unique. Sindri Suncatcher, narrator of A Practical Guide to Dragons, shared these tales from his travels with library scribe R.D. Henham.

Mudd lives a peaceful life in his small town, tinkering with the mill and any mechanical devices that he can find. But his peaceful life soon changes when, out of nowhere, a red dragon attacks, burning the town and kidnapping Shemnara, the village seer. Only one clue is left behind--a cryptic note telling Mudd, "Seek the silver dragon."

Excellent Story - Excellent Teaching Aide for Fire Safety 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I have been a professional fire fighter for more than twenty years. I thoroughly enjoy reading this book to my kids and to school children whenever I have the chance. The book covers important fire safety topics but folds the safety curriculum into a wonderful story. I have read this story aloud a hundred times and it has always been a wonderful experience. -- If I could, I would place a copy of this book into every young child's classroom.

Editorial Review:

While out for a walk with her mom, a little girl has the surprise of her life -- she meets a real, live, fire-breathing dragon! Now this dragon is nothing to be afraid of -- in fact, he's so friendly that she invites him home for tea. But their afternoon snack is suddenly interrupted when the dragon sneezes and sets the table ablaze. Luckily, the girl knows just what to do, and she teaches her new friend to be fire smart, too. With its funny, rhyming verse and spunky illustrations, No Dragons for Tea shows kids that learning about fire safety doesn't have to be scary. The story ends with "The Dragon's Fire Safety Rhyme" -- a fun and easy way to remember what to do in case of fire.
