A wonderful way to remember pi 5 out of 5 stars.
11 of 11 people found this review helpful.

I feel the age range given on the website should not be ages 4-8. This is appropriate for 8 and up. That said, my 5 year old enjoys it as just a fairy tale and I would not attempt any "teaching" to him. He listens as I read it to my older daughters and maybe it will seep in so when he's old enough to begin measuring, he will easily grasp the concepts.

This is a wonderful book - good illustrations and a clever story. The author works the math part in without it being cumbersome. A few times through this book and your child will have a good grasp of pi. At the least, it will be a good memory trigger if he/she needs help in class.

Great Book 5 out of 5 stars.

This is a great book to teach kids about the number pi. This is a book that makes math fun and gets kids interested in learning math.

Clever with Much Kid Appeal 5 out of 5 stars.

This is great. My nine yr. old niece loved it, and she was able to understand the concept. Clever and good learning approach. Even her little brother was fascinated by the pictures, so I'm sure he will make use of it when he gets older. The artwork is really good, classic in style but with a lot of individuality. I recommend this for a range of ages because kids will grow into the book, and it is a wonderful way to learn.

Grand Adventure 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

This book is both written and illustrated by Tony DiTerlizzi. This is a fantastic story of a young bibliophile named Kenny. Kenny has always felt a little on the outside - he loves books, and his pursuit of knowledge is almost relentless. At school when he has to do presentations the other students become bored and have even fallen asleep. Then his life changes drastically for his father finds a dragon in his pastures on their farm property. Kenny goes to investigate.

Kenny's only close friend in town is a retiree named George who owns a bookshop in town. It was from George's shop that he has borrowed a book called The King's Royal Bestiary. This book had a section on dragons so Kenny took it with him when he went to investigate the dragon his father found. The dragon was not at all what he expected. First the dragon's name is Grahame, and Grahame loves books, poetry music and dessert.

Kenny wants George and Grahame to meet but something gets in the way. The town finds out about the dragon, and The King has commissioned his champion to kill the beast. Kenny must find a way to save his friend.

This is a great adventure. Kenny is a smart young boy who loves books. He also loves adventure and he faces a battle. DiTerlizzi has created a wonderful story. It would be nice to meet Kenny again in further adventures.

Editorial Review:

What do you do when your new best buddy has been designated a scourge by the community and marked for imminent extermination? Just ask Kenny Rabbit. When the simple folks in the sleepy little village of Roundbrook catch wind that there's a dragon running loose in the countryside, they get the wrong idea and the stage is set for a fight to the death. So it's up to Kenny to give his neighbors front-row seats to one of the best-known battles in history -- the legendary showdown between St. George and the dragon -- without losing a friend in the fray.

Sweet Message and As always CLEVER! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

My daughter loves Dragon stories! They are clever and funny, but always have such a sweet message. I hope to buy them all for me,er, I mean her....They make for a great bed time read that you don't mind reading again, and again, and again, and again.

delightful short stories with a heart 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This colorful book is a collection of 4 very short Christmas-y stories - none of them actually "religious" in nature, but rather they touch on the spirit of the holiday season. Each story has a sincere message and can be enjoyed at face value, or can serve as a catalyst for a more meaningful discussion with your child. The illustrations and the story are pleasing for both adults and the young audience. It is perfect for reading to an audience of children under the age of 8 - and can also be read by 1st or 2nd graders. This type of book fills a void for young readers that seems to fall between the overly simply picture books and the more advanced chapter books that often lack engaging artwork. My children, ages 4 and 7 both enjoyed the book and we will be buying more Dav Pilkey books.

Editorial Review:

Dragon tries to make Christmas special each year. He picks the perfect tree and buys the perfect presents. But Dragon just can't bring himself to cut down a tree, and as he walks home from his shopping trip, he gives away his gifts to needier creatures. Dragon's sweet antics paired with Dav Pilkey's bright illustrations will warm readers' hearts as they laugh out loud. Dragon's Merry Christmas is truly a Christmas story to be read each year.

excellent adventure series 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I read this book (as one of the whole series),with my son, and he loved it. He is 9 years old and in 3rd grade. We read at night and use this as a way to increase reading orally fluency. It has realy helped because he enjoys the story, even though there is a girl in it. It would probably be fun for a girl to read, even though there is a boy in it....thanks

Great book 5 out of 5 stars.

Editorial Review:

A mysterious force has been creeping over the plains of Avantia. The animals are stampeding, and brush fires sweep the prairie. The farmers are spooked--whispers of a mysterious horseman are spreading as fast as the stampedes. And now that someone has disappeared on a cattle drive, suspicion runs high.

Tom and Elenna speed to the plains to stop Tagus the Night Mare before he can do any more damage. But Tom ends up in the wrong place at the wrong time and is mistakenly thrown in jail. Can he win the trust of the people--and his own freedom--before it's too late to stop Tagus?

Implication by Pictures 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

The interesting thing about this book is that its plot is resolved by a drawing instead of words. In fact, towards the end, the book seems to do away with words altogether and shows everything that happens with pictures only. Hardcore writers may not approve of this method. A princess appears out of nowhere to give both the dragon and the knight helpful books, and that's how the story ends.

I liked the colored-pencil-esque drawings, especially of the dragon making evil faces in the mirror. Gave me a laugh or two.

Reading a Book 75 Times in a Week 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

We got this book out of the library, and my 18 month old daughter cannot get enough. We read it to her three times a day, two or three times in a row. So I've read a lot of "The Knight and the Dragon" recently.

I like it.

Like "Pancakes for Breakfast," this is a book about trying to do something that you read about in a book and being alternately proud and frustrated by the task. It breaks down the problem of fighting dragons into steps (as well as the problem of fighting knights) and shows the heroes practicing, practicing, practicing. When setbacks happen, our heroes overcome either through persistence or creativity.

The simple pictures give my daughter the most pleasure, I think, but she enjoys the story, too. She especially likes it when the knight and dragon both fall down. And she likes to point out the librarian character.

Editorial Review:

A knight who has never fought a dragon and an equally inexperienced dragon prepare to meet each other in battle.

Editorial Review:

This is a tale of two quests: Cara Diana Hunter's search for an ancient story that may unravel the secret of the long enmity between the unicorns and the delvers, and her father's journey to free Cara's mother from the Rainbow Prison. Cara's journey leads her through the strange underground world of the delvers to the court of the centaur king, while her father must travel from mysterious India to the depths of the Rainbow Prison itself. This multi-stranded story will intrigue and delight the legion of fans who have been clamoring for the next tale in this beloved series.

Grannys preview 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I always preview any books I purchase for my grandchildren. I give this an A+ for its style of writing and for keeping it light enough for young minds. The storyline has action, is fun, and has some core values instilled in the actions of the chatacters. I was entertained and finished the book with a feeling of having had a good adventure. I wanted more.

Fresh voice; terrific read 5 out of 5 stars.

I had heard good things about this book when I picked it up, but I didn't expect to fall in love with it. The style is delightful, the characters dynamic, and the story creative and new. I look forward to seeing more from Jessica Day George.

Editorial Review:

Conflict, peril, and inspiration as two teens enter the deadly domain of a powerful enemy!

Circles of Seven is a contemporary fantasy novel, the third in a series of books for pre-teens and young adults. This series inspires young people to pursue faith, courage, and love and to dig deep within to find their God-given strengths, no matter how difficult the circumstances. The first book, Raising Dragons, plunged two teenagers, Billy Bannister and Bonnie Silver, into mind-boggling mysteries, life or death pursuits, and deadly sword-to-sword battles. In the second book, The Candlestone, a mysterious diary leads Billy into mortal combat with a powerful dragon slayer. Separated from his friends and finding his dragon traits useless against this enemy, he has to rely on new weapons, a sword and shield he cannot even see. Now in Circles of Seven, using their dragon traits and the wisdom they gained through their earlier adventures, Billy and Bonnie explore a multi-dimensional domain of evil. In this realm, they navigate seven perilous worlds, each one manifested in a circular plane of existence that leads them deeper into the domain of a powerful enemy. Circles of Seven is the third saga in a four book series entitled: Dragons in our Midst.
