2nd grader loved it 5 out of 5 stars.

I bought this at the book fair, trying to find an exciting adventure series for my son. This is the first book he truly could not put down. I read the first chapter to him and then he continued to read, after dinner, in the tub, before bed, until he finally finished it that same evening. It was great to see him enjoy reading so much. We are buying the next one in the series now.

Hey, mature readers, don't look twice at this book, but 2nd and 3rd graders will love it! 5 out of 5 stars.

Beast Quest: Ferno the Fire Dragon, is a story about a kingdom plauged by a mysterious power that is drying up rivers, destroying villages and crops, and causing mast turmoil. A young boy namd Tom vows several times to defeat this power, and travels to the king's place. What goes on from there is great adventure, quick-paced action, and cool magic.
For 2-3rd graders.
The print is very large, and the story is very simple. But if I was in the lower grades, I would have thought it the next big series. But Adam Blade does a very good job in writing this series.
Definently a series your elementary grade child has been looking for to make reading more fun.

Editorial Review:

Strange things are happening in Tom's village. First, the horses were attacked. Then, the river dried up. Now, the last of the crops has mysteriously burnt to the ground. Everyone is terrified. But Tom isn't afraid. He's always dreamed of a quest-a real quest!-and vows to go to the king and bring help for them all. But Tom soon learns that his village is not the only one in trouble. People are in trouble all over the kingdom. Hope is nearly lost. That is, until Tom is sent on the greatest quest of all--the Beast Quest.

Epos the winged flame 5 out of 5 stars.

One boy's journey to help the village becomes a quest to save the kingdom. Tom is ready to defeat the last beast and the most powerful too. The beast is a phoenix which lives in a volcano. And though Tom's friends have been there for him while he fought the other beasts,he will have to face this beast alone. But Tom has more to worry about than just Epos, he has to face the wizard that is controlling the beast. His name is Dark Mavel. I hope you enjoy the end of the exciting series of Beast Quest.

books that got my son to read! 5 out of 5 stars.

this series, along with Deltora Quest are responsible for getting my son to read! On his own, by his own choice in his free time. In fact he started taking books with him everywhere he went, including restaurants and sister's lessons. A suggestion I had been making for some time. I'm overjoyed! I haven't read the books myself but obviously they are engaging enough to keep a hyper-active 10 year old boy enthralled. He has moved on to thicker books now that his reading confidence and enjoyment has been boosted.

Editorial Review:

Tom and Elenna must journey on to face the last of the Beasts enslaved by the evil wizard Malvel: the Winged Flame, a phoenix of terrible power. It has been been slowly awakening a long-dead volcano. If Tom and Elenna cannot stop the Beast in time, it could mean a deadly eruption.

Editorial Review:

The kids at school call Billy "Dragon Breath" for good reason. His breath is bad! It isn't the normal, morning-mouth bad; it's the hot-as-fire, "don't-you-dare-get-near-me" bad. And hearing "Dragon Breath" ringing in his ears, he constantly tries to cool his oral volcano. Trouble erupts when his hot breath sets off the fire sprinklers in the boys' restroom at school, and his parents learn that they've kept their secret for too long.   Billy finally discovers the secret. His father was once a dragon! Now that's a piece of news a guy doesn't deal with every day! Billy feels betrayed, alien, lost. When his father reverts to his dragon form, and they're both chased by dragon slayers, he learns to trust his father again, battling the slayers with weapons of steel and spirit.  Bonnie, an orphan, tries to find a home, someone to love her, even though she feels like a freak because of a body feature that she calls a deformity, her dragon wings, inherited from her now dead dragon mother. She discovers that her love for others and her faith in a Creator hold the answers she is looking for.

The Wump World 1 out of 5 stars.
2 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I love everything Bill Pete ever wrote - except this book. And I'm an environmentalist! There is nothing joyful or entertaining within the pages of this entire book and kids' books need that so kids will want to read them again and again and grow to love to read. You can teach kids to take care of their world without inventing a creature and giving it a horrible existence to pound a kid over the head with the fact that we're passing on to them a damaged world.

Who are the real 'wumps'? 5 out of 5 stars.

Cute characters giving a very strong message about looking after the planet. Great way to introduce young children to having an environmental conscience. Highly recommended.

Favorite children's book 5 out of 5 stars.

As with other reviewers, this was one of my favorite books as a child. I read a lot then, and still read a lot now. The Wump World was one of a handful of books that I had as a child that I kept all these years. The story is sad (and somewhat disturbing in fact) in the middle, as the Pollutions destroy the planet, but the story ends with distinct hope for the future, that the world can renew itself.

Bill Peet writes wonderful stories. If you like the Wump World, check out some of his other books. He also did a lot of work for Disney animation, including The Sword in the Stone and 101 Dalmatians. You see his name a lot on old Disney films.

Editorial Review:

The Pollutians invade the Wump World and turn the green meadows into a concrete jungle.

Awesome book! 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

How To Raise and Keep a Dragon. This title says it all. My 7 y.o. son, LOVES it. We came across this book a week ago at Barnes & Noble and he hasn't put it down yet. He has decided what 'dragon' he will raise and keep, he has learned all about it and designed it's 'room'. He also named it! Very cool for the budding fantasy reader.

Editorial Review:

Why keep a dragon? There are many reasons. What else can protect your treasure . . . impress your friends . . . make diamonds out of coal . . . work as a model for coats of arms . . . heat your home? Kids who enjoy whimsy will be delighted by this beautifully illustrated owner’s manual for dragon fanciers. It tells about the wide range of different dragons available, the characteristics of each, and the equipment and supplies that every dragon owner should have on hand. (For instance, a fire extinguisher.) The book is a fanciful blend of dragon lore and colorful art, the latter including diagrams of parts of winged and non-winged dragons, portraits of sea serpents, depictions of Asian dragons, and many others. More than 250 color illustrations in all. Here’s a book that’s fun from first page to last.

Great book...not-so-great models 3 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Book is great...my son loves it. However, the models don't stay together and cause lots of frustration. We're going to have to glue them together so they don't continue to fall apart. Would have given this item 5 stars if the models had been of a higher quality.

Editorial Review:

Twelve intriguing mini models in the most deluxe field guide yet — an irresistible hands-on resource for devoted dragonologists!

Even skilled dragonologists need special preparation to study in the field. What if an unfamiliar species should approach? Now an impressive guide highlights nineteen different dragon species, many seen here for the first time. Focused on species from the obscure tree-climbing monkey dragon to the better-known wyvern and amphithere, each entry details size, shape, coloration, habitat, the appearance of eggs and young, and (most important) form of attack. To help readers recognize dragons in the wild, mini models of twelve of the species await assembly, each tucked in its own pocket and complete with its own stand.

Editorial Review:

Tears of a Dragon is a contemporary fantasy, the fourth in a series of audiobooks for pre-teens and young adults. This series inspires young people to pursue faith, courage, and love and to dig deep within to find their God-given strengths, no matter how difficult the circumstances.

In the fourth installment, a vicious evil has been unleashed on the earth that only the dragons can defeat. With Billy’s father, the great Clefspeare, missing, Billy and Bonnie must lead the dragons into war against the Watchers—demonic beings as old as the earth itself. Masters at the art of deception, the Watchers use the deadliest of weapons against humankind.A remnant of wise humans—the friends of the dragons—unite in the struggle against the Watchers. With heart-stopping action, the final battle between dragons and their enemies comes to a climax. But in order to win the war, at least one of the dragons must die. As the story ends, Billy and Bonnie are faced with the greatest decision of their lives. Will they keep the dragon traits that have cost them so much danger and heartache or will they turn to normal human life and end the slayers’ lust for their blood forever?

Great start to a beloved series 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

It's been 400 years since the world of Pern has had to deal with deadly Threads falling from the sky to destroy whatever organic life they come into contact with. Many no longer believe that the threat exists any more and the dragon riders responsible for destroying the threads before they hit the ground have fallen into ill repute. Enter F'lar, the new leader of dragon riders, and Lessa, who bonds with the newborn queen dragon. They struggle to get ready so that humanity can survive when the Threads begin to fall again.

Lessa and F'lar are the main characters in Dragonflight but there is a large supporting cast and nearly all are well portrayed. Lessa's and F'lar's romantic relationship definitely has an adolescent tone to it, but it still makes for an enjoyable read. This is not a long book (less than 300 pages) and the pace moves along smartly as a result. The stakes are high and the story compelling.

I read this book roughly 25 years ago and enjoyed it at the time but wasn't sure that my slightly older self would find it as engaging. I must say that it was a pleasant surprise how well Dragonflight has held up and it was a very enjoyable read. I fully recommend it to established fantasy fans as well as newcomers to the genre.

Editorial Review:

After ten Turns, Lessa is ready to come out of hiding, ready to reclaim her birthright, ready to impress the young dragon queen and to become Weyrwoman of Benden. 2 cassettes.

Hold on to your hat! It might be a bumpy ride!!!! 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

My daughter and I loved the first book and eagerly awaited the second, which can make it harder to enjoy if expectations are huge. This one does not disappoint! Plenty of action, character development flesh out an original and intriguing story line. Luka and Creel's relationship is a quiet thread throughout, but is challenged by other royal attention. Dragons are used for nefarious purposes...or are they? I hate to say anything about the plot because the less you know going into it, the better. Enrapturing for younger readers and enjoyable for adults as well, this book was wonderfully satisfying! I can't wait to see what she comes up with next!

Editorial Review:

With the Dragon Wars over, Creel finds herself bored with life as a seamstress. Then word comes that a bordering country has been breeding dragons in preparation for an invasion. Never one to sit around, Creel throws herself headlong into an adventure that will reunite her with her dragon friend Shardas, pit her against a vicious new enemy and perhaps rekindle a friendship with Prince Luka that seems to have gone cold. Funny, heart-felt, and action packed, this is a sequel that will satisfy on every level.
