Editorial Review:

A little girl who loves unicorns. A beloved statue that comes to life. An unforgettable and exhilarating journey. With its combination of magical story, stunningly realistic art, and shimmering spot-lamination throughout, this lovely picture book will enchant children again and again.
Children will feel their imagination take flight along with the title character as they enjoy Neil Reed's captivating tale of a very special midnight ride.
More than anything, Millie loves the statue of the unicorn at her park. Its closed eyes, gentle mouth, and kind smile always make her happy. Then, one day, as she presses her hands against the statue's neck, she feels a shiver run through the stone: marble has become flesh and the unicorn has come alive. And riding on his back, Millie soars up, up, up, into the sky, over forest and lakes, through storms and lighting, to the land where unicorns still play….
With images so realistic they almost seem photographed, and spot-lamination that makes the stars-and lots more on the page-shine, this beautiful story will become a perennial favorite.

Neil Reed has been illustrating books for nineteen years. His illustrations for Unicorn Dreams, by Dyan Sheldon, were praised by School Library Journal as “captivating….Reed's unicorn…will win the hearts of romantics of all ages.” Of his illustrations for Shirley Isherwood’s Something for James, Publishers Weekly raved, “Reed's radiant watercolors set off the tale like a Tiffany setting displays a gem…the cozy world that the warmly lit artwork portrays is one that readers will eagerly enter time and again.” When Neil Reed is not illustrating books for young readers, he can be found surfing with his children at beaches near their home in Cornwall, England.

First Grader's Review 4 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I liked Sepron the Sea Serpant because I really like monsters, especially this one. The series is about six monsters that are under an evil spell. There is a boy and a girl with a horse and a wolf on a quest to save the world from evil.

The best book ever! 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is a great book for kids who like monsters, because it's about a monster who tries to take over the sea and land with a whole lot of floods.

I really like this book and I think you would too.

Magical, adventurous introduction for the young ones! 3 out of 5 stars.

One of my students absolutely demanded that I read this book for read-aloud. Since many first grade boys are obsessed with fantasy, I went with it. While this is hardly high-class wonderful fantasy, I could not help but see the appeal of the story. I'm tempted to call this "beginner's fantasy", an easy-to-read (but still surprisingly well-written) story under 80 pages that introduces the concepts of quests and magical creatures and all those good staples. While the characters never quite grabbed me, Blade uses great descriptions and words beyond the ordinary (thus, perfect for a read-aloud). The story is organized well and has a nice idea. Again, not absolutely wonderful (I'm sorry, but I could not help but compare to Deltora) but even I was intrigued. I think this is a perfect series for young readers interested in fantasy.

Editorial Review:

Floods. Starvation. Fear. This is what awaits the people of Avantia's coast if Tom and Elenna cannot stop Sepron the Sea Serpent. The huge and terrifying beast lurks in eerie waters. All the fish have fled and no boats dare to pass. Tom and Elenna meet a mysterious stranger who may hold the key for tracking down the monster. But as they set off in a rickety rowboat, Tom can't help but wonder if they'll succeed so easily this time. . . .

What a grand adventure 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III is a young bumbling and reluctant hero. He seems to have quite a knack for stumbling across adventures in which he somehow manages to beat the bad guy. In this fifth adventure, Hiccup determines that thousands of highly deadly Exterminator dragons will be hatched if the volcano on a nearby island erupts. Hiccup, his friends, and his dragons must find away to stop the volcano from erupting, and do it fast. Can even Hiccup stop an erupting volcano or has he finally met his match?

Hiccups adventures are highly entertaining, especially for little boys who love adventure and fantasy. Each book stands alone as each contains a separate adventure. There are references to other adventures but you do not have to have read those books in order to follow the current tale. The book isn't just for little boys but the language and names of the characters are particularly appealing to little boys who find any reference to body functions very humorous. For example, the boy's pirate training instructor is named Gobber the Belch and some of Hiccup's classmates are named Fishlegs, Snotface Snotlout, Tuffnut Junior, and Dogsbreath the Duhbrain.

The book is written as a kind of journal of Hiccup's adventures and is heavily illustrated by the Viking child's drawings. I enjoyed the book and this series has my ten-year-old son thinking maybe he could write a book like this (with his own adventures of course). I think this is an excellent series to give to a child who is not that interested in the idea of sitting down to read or write, for in it they may find the spark for their own imagination--and what could be better than that!

Armchair Interviews says: Wonderful adventures set off by great illustrations make for a fun book. Fine for Middle Reader or Young Adult ages.

Editorial Review:

Someone has stolen the Fire Egg. Now the Volcano on Volcano Island is active and the tremors are hatching the eggs of the Exterminator dragons! Can Hiccup return the Fire Egg to the Volcano, stop the Volcano from erupting, AND save the Tribes from being wiped out by the terrible sword-claws of the Exterminators?

We love the Dragon books 5 out of 5 stars.

All 3 of my kids enjoy sitting and listening to the Dragon books (ages 2 1/2, 5 and 7). They are so funny we all laugh out loud when reading them! I just wish there were more of them!

My son liked it. 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I ordered this and placed it on our bookshelf. My 4.5 year old son saw and immediately wanted to me to read it. He enjoyed it.
It is somewhere between a picture book and a chapter book. There are pictures on every page, but it is divided into chapters. It is quite short.
The story is about a dragon who wants a friend. An apple falls on his head. A snake pretends to be the apple and talks to the dragon. The dragon becomes friends with the apple and takes it home. They have fun together.
But then the apple won't talk (because the snake is no longer around.) The dragon gets worried and takes it to the doctor. There is a walrus in the waiting room. When Dragon gets up for some water, the walrus eats the apple. All is left is the apple core. Dragon take the apple home. It turns brown and dies. He buries it outside and is sad. "But after a while, Dragon stopped being so sad. He cried less and less. He began to eat and sleep better. Still, he was very lonely."
The apple core grows into a huge apple tree. Dragon, feeling lonely, goes outside and another apple falls on his head. There are many apples on the tree. The end.
I though it was a nice, thoughtful book about death. My son and I talked about death after reading it.

"Dragon's the butt of a practical joke, but in his innocence, he emerges the winner . . . The silliness is right on target for tickling young readers."--Booklist. "Pilkey's endearing stories are perfect for beginning readers."--Publishers Weekly.

The Best Book Ever 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

"It's beautiful," Jeremy whispered reaching out to pick it up. Jeremy ran away from Howard Morton and Freddie the Frog Killer so Mary Lou Hutton could kiss Jeremy the day that he stumbled into Mr. Elives magic shop. What would happen if you got the Chinese rings or a dragons egg? What would you do if you found out that you had to hatch it? You can learn about how things you love are always right next to you. Do you like Eragon or Eldest?
Then you want to take a break and go to a shorter book. If so, pick this one! I guarentee you will like this one. You'll love it just like I did! Now go read Jeremy Thatcher, Dragon Hatcher by Bruce Coville to continue all the fun!!!

Great Book! 5 out of 5 stars.

Kids Enjoy This Book! 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I read this book and "How to Train Your Dragon" to my fifth grade class. When I finished they begged me to go on Amazon and look up the next book - which we discovered will be published in May. I ordered it right then and they have circled the anticipated delivery date. The characters are amusing, the writing is fresh, the vocabulary (especially the character's names) is right up an adolescent's alley - and they loved having a grown up having to pronounce names like Snotlout and Baggybum. Practically every one of the kids (average to above average readers) have read both of the books on their own, also.

It was super, duper great!!! (Kid Review) 5 out of 5 stars.

My Name is Jack and I'm 8 years old and I love to read. I read this book in three days because I just couldn't stop reading. I loved it because it was funny, surprising, and one of the best books I've read. My favorite part was when the boat sinks and Hiccup ends up in an underwater cave and finds the treasure of Grimbeard the Gastly. It's all about Pirates, Vikings and Dragons which I love. Now I am gong to find the other books in the series too!

Editorial Review:

Prolific children's book author Bruce Coville has delivered a down-to-earth unicorn tale, if such a thing is possible. Song of the Wanderer, the second book in The Unicorn Chronicles, delivers a neat follow-up to Into the Land of the Unicorns, unraveling mysteries and handily reweaving new ones just as fast. The world of the unicorns, Luster, is carefully and cohesively imagined, with myths and rules and prejudices that seem logical and organic. Readers will thrill to the story of Cara, an earth girl who becomes both ward and savior of the unicorns. She must travel through Luster--a world replete with all manner of secret caves and rainbow prisons and talking seashells--back to earth to try to find her grandmother, the Wanderer. The episodic structure of the book is satisfying; Coville delivers all the de rigueur scenes, including a makeover, wherein a Geomancer provides Cara with clothing appropriate to her journey: "To finish the outfit, she strapped a short sword to Cara's side. 'May you never have to use it,' whispered the Geomancer." (The rest of us hope otherwise.) Coville hurries his heroine past some flat characterizations through clever, well-thought-out plot points. And he leaves his ending compellingly open, as befits a series: Luster resounds with rumors of "the possibility of a fierce, final battle that would decide the ancient struggle between the unicorns and the Hunters once and for all." Stay tuned, unicorn lovers. --Claire Dederer

Hold on to your hat! It might be a bumpy ride!!!! 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

My daughter and I loved the first book and eagerly awaited the second, which can make it harder to enjoy if expectations are huge. This one does not disappoint! Plenty of action, character development flesh out an original and intriguing story line. Luka and Creel's relationship is a quiet thread throughout, but is challenged by other royal attention. Dragons are used for nefarious purposes...or are they? I hate to say anything about the plot because the less you know going into it, the better. Enrapturing for younger readers and enjoyable for adults as well, this book was wonderfully satisfying! I can't wait to see what she comes up with next!

Editorial Review:

With the Dragon Wars over, Creel finds herself bored with life as a seamstress. Then word comes that a bordering country has been breeding dragons in preparation for an invasion. Never one to sit around, Creel throws herself headlong into an adventure that will reunite her with her dragon friend Shardas, pit her against a vicious new enemy and perhaps rekindle a friendship with Prince Luka that seems to have gone cold. Funny, heart-felt, and action packed, this is a sequel that will satisfy on every level.
