African Adventure for Children 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 7 people found this review helpful.

"Now, in his first books for children to be published in the U.S., he takes readers deep into the heart of Africa, where the grass grows taller than a man, and where lions and great elephants still roam. There, ten-year-old Akimbo lives with his father on the edge of a game reserve. Akimbo loves to join his father when he patrols the reserve because there is always something exciting to see. But when it comes to wild animals, excitement can also mean danger..." (description from publisher's website)

Editorial Review:

Ten-year-old Akimbo lives on a game preserve in Africa. His father is the head ranger, and Akimbo is eager to help him whenever he can—even if it means getting into some pretty dangerous situations.

In Akimbo and the Elephants, ivory poachers are killing grown elephants for their tusks and leaving the calves to die. When the authorities fail to turn up new leads, Akimbo sets out to save the elephants by posing as a hunter himself.

Good night, little ducklings, good night. 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

My favorite bedtime book for my daughter. My three-year-old now has the book memorized and "reads" it by herself before I ever get to her room. Once again, Derek Anderson brings the story to life with his brilliant, dual-page illustrations -- when the ducklings yawn, I can't help yawning myself. Perfect amount of text per page. Also helps children to not be afraid of nightime sights and sounds. Sure to become a classic, if it's not already.

Sweet Night Time Story 5 out of 5 stars.

My 18 month old has had this book for 7 months. She absolutely adores it. We not only read it at bedtime but whenever the mood arises. She carries the book around and would sleep with it if we let her. The story is wonderful and the pictures inside are so sweet and beautiful. My little one will sit and "read" her book through the pictures all the time. A great one to have around for bedtime. Plus it's not real wordy. The perfect bedtime read.

Day is done.

For Widdle, Waddle, Piddle, Puddle, and Little Quack that means time for B-E-D! But there's blinking, hooting, and swaying in the night that's keeping everyone awake! Mama wants to know when it will finally be BEDTIME?

Loved it in German for years . . . 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

We bought this book in Germany for our 6-month-old daughter years ago. She loved it so much it went everywhere with us. When we lost our first, much-loved, much-teethed-on copy, it was a major catastrophe in our household, and we wrote frantically to friends in Germany for a few more copies, just in case! I am thrilled to find it in English (though the text isn't as cute as in the German version). Now we can share it with friends, we aren't having to translate every time we read it, and there are no more international incidents when our copy gets lost!

Great Purchase 5 out of 5 stars.

I highly recommend this little book. I have twin boys and they have been enjoying it since they were four months old. They like hearing the story and the finger puppet makes them laugh. They also like holding the book and playing with the duck puppet and the hole. They like the ladybug finger puppet book a lot too. These books are great gifts and are most suitable for very young children. I like the ladybug and duck books so much that just ordered them as gifts for my niece. Next we'll try bee book.

Editorial Review:

A brightly colored finger puppet attached to each book peeks out from every spread. Sure to make a little one smile.

Long Time favorite 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

I loved this Christmas story as a little girl! I have read and reread it over the years. Now as a teacher for almost 20 years I get to share it with my class each year as my favorite story. It encourages them to think of others during this busy season. It is a beautiful and fun lesson about loving and what you can do for others.

Editorial Review:

While taking a walk in the snow, the pet goose Petunia meets Charles, a most charming and handsome gander. Handsome, yes–and hefty, because poor Charles is being fattened for Christmas dinner by the farmer next door. Will the gander of Petunia’s dreams be served up roasted, with applesauce on the side?

Petunia’s determination to save Charles, even if it means posing as Santa Claus, results in “one of the simplest, funniest, and most original of Christmas stories,” wrote the Chicago Tribune when this book was originally published in 1952. A yuletide classic by a Caldecott Medal winner, Petunia’s Christmas is still making children laugh as it shows the true spirit of Christmas.

This is a really cute book with great pictures and a very imaginative story that emphasizes the "I think I can" theme.
It is great for children of all ages!

Smart and fun, a real winner! 5 out of 5 stars.

A friend gave my daughter this CD for her first birthday, and we've been listening to it almost nonstop ever since. The lyrics are clever and fun, and the music is beautifully scored and performed. I sing along with all the songs myself, and my daughter sways and dances. Highly recommended!!!

So creative and unique -- parents and children will love it! 5 out of 5 stars.

I initially borrowed this book and CD set from the library on a whim because the cover looked interesting. Two renews later, I am purchasing one for the house. I have a 2 and 3 year old who listen to this CD non-stop. My 3 year old knows all the words, and I must confess I DO TO. The songs are so creative and catchy -- you will find yourself humming along with the alligators. This is certainly a smart collection of songs that will introduce your little one to various styles of music. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!

Editorial Review:

An original work by well-known singer-songwriter Connie Kaldor that tells the story of a little prairie duck with a big idea - making it on Broadway. It's a long shot, and New York's very far away. Luckily, a truck-driver named Big Betty comes along, offers him a ride, and gives him that extra little boost he needs to fulfill his dream!

Son Loves It! 5 out of 5 stars.

My son checked this book out at a library while we were on vaction! He can't get enough of it. As soon as we got home he wanted to read it. So here I am on Amazon searching for a purchase! He loved the simple story and giggled at the key phrases like "crocoduck".

enjoyable 5 out of 5 stars.

Can be read over and over again and will be if your kids are like the kids i read to.

Very creative story, also teach a lesson 5 out of 5 stars.

A big grey egg rolled to a pile of duck eggs. Mother duck hatched it and treated it as one of her owns, although he looks bigger and different. One day this "baby duck" sees 3 bad crocodiles who look just like him. They told him he is a crocodile and has sharp teeth designed to catch and eat the ducks. They also asked him to help them and lure the ducks over to the bridge so they can catch and swallow the ducks.

After some identity struggle, he made a decision and put that into action.

Very creative story, also teaches us to accept and love those who are different (like mother duck), and do what we think is right.

Editorial Review:

Guji Guji is just your ordinary, everyday, run-of-the-mill duck...um, crocodile...um, duck... In this engaging story about identity, loyalty and what it really means to be a family, Guji, Guji makes some pretty big decisions about who he is, what he is, and what it all means, anyway.

Love these chickens--my heroes! 5 out of 5 stars.

Where has this book been? Ran into this quite by accident and so happy to have it. Can hardly wait to show it to my kids. Funny story, with a few repeating phrases (but not too many, and stated somewhat differently). Illustrations are TOPS, and the chickens, well, they turn into heroes. Big Chickens

Very funny and entertaining 5 out of 5 stars.

My 4 year olds LOVE this story. We heard it at a library storytime and knew this was a book we had to have. The story is adorable with a message about overcoming one's fears and the illustrations keep it light and funny. An excellent read!

Editorial Review:

When four big chickens see a wolf sneaking near their coop, they run into the woods to hide. But for a bunch of big chickens, running away from danger isn’t as easy as it looks. As they continue on their way, they wonder: What if they get stuck in a ditch? What if they hit an iceberg in the lake? What if they step into a cow patty? Eewww! Brimming with silliness and the kind of slapstick humor small children love, here’s a rollicking read-aloud with an uplifting message and a very satisfying ending.

Some changes from the paper edition 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

We've been waiting and waiting for this book to come out in a boardbook edition.

It is a favorite of my children, but one is very young, and has accidentally ripped some pages in other books.

My first complaint is that the type seems kind of small, relative to other boardbooks by Mr. Carle and compared to the original version.

However, my biggest disappointment came with the surprise at the end.

I won't spoil it for everyone, but the format is "different" than in the original. It is cuter, and likely longer lasting, but it is a little more difficult to get it to work than the simpler mechanism in the paper book.

I'd *strongly* suggest that you look at one of these in person before purchasing it ...

I'm quite disappointed, but we have it now and the kids certainly love it!

Editorial Review:

A surprise for the youngest child from Eric Carle!

Get swept away on a high seas voyage of discovery with 10 little rubber ducks as they float to all parts of the globe, and learn about numbers, directions, and animals.
