In 2015, the "Angels" have returned, and Shinji Ikari, a fourteen year-old child of the new Earth, is forced by his father Gendo--commander of the secret organization NERV--to pilot the monstrous biomechanical weapon called "Evangelion" to match the Angels' fearsome power...

This is an interesting chapter where Wantanuki meets a young girl who sees spirits like he does. She keeps staring at spirit in a cherry tree and lured there in the pouring rain. Wantanuki is learning more about Domeki and what he may not like about him. He also knows what he wore as a child. Now there's a game of Mah-Jong to play.

Ghosts are everywhere. Ichigo Kurosaki knows this because he can see ghosts. But his life takes a huge change when he runs into Rukia Kuchiki, a Soul Reaper, and he learns about the spirit world. In fact he joins it to protect his family. For the first volume it packs a lot of details, setting up the world within the book and the characters who live within it.

Editorial Review:

Hot-tempered 15-year-old Ichigo Kurosaki, the hero of the popular fantasy-adventure Bleach, has the unsettling ability to see spirits who are unable to rest in peace. His sixth sense leads him to Rukia, a Soul Reaper who destroys Hollows (soul-devouring monsters) and ensures the deceased find repose with the Soul Society. When she's injured in battle, Rukia transfers her sword and much of her power to Ichigo, whose spiritual energy makes him a formidable substitute Soul Reaper. But the orange-haired teenager isn't sure he wants the job: too many risks and moral dilemmas.

Another good one from Stan 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

What can I say about UY? After 22 volumes, you would think that Stan Sakai would start to run a little dry, but it keeps coming on strong and good. I really liked this one because it does what Stan does best: character-driven story-lines mixing Japanese folklore with historical contexts. The artwork is as good as ever. The last chapter with the tea ceremony is sublime.

Editorial Review:

Learn why Tomoe is the most valuable retainer of Lord Noriuki of the Geishu Province, then plunge into a terrifying ghost story where a string of mysterious murders point to a woman dead for ten years. Finally, experience the mesmerizing beauty of a formal tea ceremony, as Usagi and Tomoe share this spiritual event to mark the rabbit ronin's departure from the province to resume his travels. This volume chronicles the evolution of the relationship between Usagi and Tomoe, with a collection of stories ranging from exciting to exquisite. "Tomoe's Story" captures the very essence of what has made Usagi Yojimbo a hit for over twenty years!

A great continuation to a great series 5 out of 5 stars.
8 of 10 people found this review helpful.

Volume 3 of Fullmetal Alchemist is absolutely wonderful. This addition finally brings in some characters from the Elric brothers' past, as well as enlightens the reader as to some of the horrors of their past.

The state alchemist serial killer from volume 2 is still on the loose, so the brothers are accompanied at all times by body guards. Those of you who have read 1 and 2, or are at all familiar with the show will understand how much the brothers definately do not appreciate that.

They continue to get into trouble as is always the case for the two of them, and there are some fun battle scenes in the last chapter. The last chapter of this volume, The Definition of Human, is the opening to a terribly sad arc which we will get to read in volume 4. I won't spoil it here, but I will say this chapter has some great battle scenes and some more plot twists are revealed for us to enjoy.

There are some wonderful extras at the end of the manga, like there usually are, and this volume also gives us a preview of the Fullmetal Alchemist book coming out soon entitled, "Fullmetal Alchemist Volume 1: The Land of Sand". It looks good! (This is a novel, not a manga, so I imagine there will not be any fun pictures accompanying the text). So check that out as well, and as always enjoy the incredibly entertaining artwork!

I own this series in Japanese, and it is a wonderful read! It has all the important elements of a good shoujo manga: it is romantic, twisted, with a shoujo (in the traditional meaning of the word) involved in finding a new family and love triangles galore. It is just a very fun read, no matter the language!

Summer Break with the Sohma 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I'm a big fan for Fruits Basket, the anime, but I started to read the Manga out of curiosity to continue the story and I have to admit that the Manga never failed to amazes me. This volume is so great. We see the relationship between Tohru & the others grows during the summer break, Tohru in her swimsuit, Yuki kissing her and Kyo's care and hidden love for her. It is so much fun to read.

Editorial Review:

The world's number one shojo manga continues, as Tohru and the Sohmas spend time at the Sohma's summerhouse. Alas, it's not all fun in the sun on this little trip. Akito pays a surprise visit, causing a commotion for the rest of the family. Shigure takes a stroll down memory lane with an old friend, remembering the days when Hatori wasn't so aloof. Meanwhile, Tohru begins to wonder: What must life be like for the loved ones of a cursed member of the Sohma family? Can life with this family truly be happy while bearing such a burden?

They're all animals 5 out of 5 stars.
18 of 18 people found this review helpful.

Natsuki Takaya hit manga gold with "Fruits Basket," a romantic/comic/fantasy story about one cursed family, and a girl who might be able to set them all free.

And this boxed set combines the first four volumes of the series, which also introduces many of the important characters -- not to mention the romantic comedy/dark angsty note of it all. The first volume is a bit wobbly, but this quirky, warmhearted little series gets its footing soon.

Orphaned Tohru Honda is living in a tent in the woods. But one day she bumps into the large house of school idol Yuki Sohma, and his older cousin Shigure -- and after a landslide buries her tent and most of her belongings, they take Tohru in as a housekeeper/cook. But when the volatile Kyo Sohma breaks in to fight with Yuki, Tohru slips and accidently hugs him -- and he transforms into a cat.

Turns out that the Sohma family is cursed -- certain members turn into animals of the Chinese zodiac, including Yuki and Shigure (rat and dog, respectively). The mysterious family head Akito allows Tohru to stay at Shigure's house, and the volatile "cat" Kyo is also ordered to stay there.

Over the next few months, Tohru gets to know other members of the zodiac -- the tragic doctor Hatori, the bubbly Momiji, the intense and punky Haru, and Yuki's flamboyant, flirtatious, socially clueless brother Ayame. And there's plenty of goofy antics as they try to deal with marathons, Valentine's day, hot springs visits and school fairs.

But there is a darker side to the Sohma family -- Yuki's abuse, Kyo's outsider status, Momiji's lost family, and Hatori's lost lover. Akito and the curse keep them isolated from the outside world -- but slowly Tohru's sunny personality starts to change them.

"Fruits Basket" isn't a hard series to like -- it has a little something for everyone, especially manga fans who love beautiful young men (of which there are plenty -- silver-haired Ayame is a particular highlight). Evil curses, slapstick comedy, swift martial-arts battles, a bit of romantic tension, and a horde of fangirls who are obsessive about Yuki.

After introducing the characters (and getting them into the same house), Takaya really jumps into the unfolding story of the zodiac. Her artwork starts off a bit awkwardly, but settles into an elegant, polished style by mid-book. And she has a knack for very, very funny dialogue (Shigure and Ayame's faux-gay banter is particularly hysterical). At the same time, it's hard not to bawl at Momiji's tragic story of maternal abandonment.

Tohru must have been a difficult character to make likable. She's almost Pollyannaish in her optimism and cheerfulness. But Takaya makes her likable -- she doesn't instantly spread sunshine, and she's rather goofy and clueless. To top it off, she has two of the weirdest girls in school as her best buddies (and personal bodyguards).

The other characters are almost -- if not more -- adorable, from the sweet-natured "prince" Yuki to the loopy Kagura, from the volatile Kyo to the slyly pervy Shigure. But she eventually shows hidden depths to them -- some are more sinister than they appear, and some are more pleasant than they act.

The first four volumes of "Fruits Basket" are a delightfully romantic, comedic little series with some shadowy edges. A bit much for new readers, but a great find for those who already know and love it.

Editorial Review:

Ideal for new "Fruits Baskets" fans and collectors, this boxed set features new art from the creator.

I am...THE FANTASY CRUSHER!!!(and, I'm a GIRL, too...) 1 out of 5 stars.
5 of 30 people found this review helpful.

I'm sorry if I totally piss off anyone who absolutley LOVED this book...but I can have my own opinion! It's LEGAL!!! Yay! I am hereby giving this book a terrible rating simply because I don't like it. The plot confuses me. I mean, it's people killing people because they hate them for reasons that don't really make much sense most of the time, and the warrior main character guy whose name I always forget is totally booooring. I don't care if he looks a little hot or not! And Ashura, or whatever his name is, is a sissy. Seriously. He looks like a girl. He acts like one too. Maybe he SECRETLY...likes...avacados! That would explain a lot...Anyway, the plot is also too serious, and it doesn't have much comic relief. The only guy who I think is funny...doesn't show up all that much. And I forgot what his name is, too. See?! THIS PROVES IT! The manga is so unmemorable, I forgot everyone's name! I have also read up to the fourth book, so it's not like I didn't give it a chance! Anyway, if you like books that are kinda funny...do not waste your money on this book! Save your green! RUN AWAY! WAAAAAAAAAUUUUUGGGGGGHHHH!!!!Keep running! WAAAAAAAUUUGGGHH! Oh, and, if you couldn't tell, I like books with comedy in them. I don't know why. Anyway...WWWAAAAUUUUGGGHHH!!!

Yu-Gi-Oh Duelist #6 (YGO 13) 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 6 people found this review helpful.

I currently own this comic book in French, and quite frankly, it's one of the best mangas of the duelist kingdom saga next to "Duelist #8"/YGO #15. There are many differences in the book that were quote on quote too "shocking" for television. On the contrary, I would have to say... more 'violent.'

For instance, when Keith goes into Jounouchi/Joey's room to steal his glory of the king's hand card, Yuugi catches him in the act, although, he is too tired to distinguish the difference between Keith and Jou--pretty sad, eh? However, in about five seconds flat, he wakes up and realizes that Keith is up to no good, and Keith slams poor Yuugi into the wall, and continues to beat him up. To put your minds at ease, however, Jou eventually comes to the rescue. Keith still winds up with Jounouchi's card, though.

The manga continues up from Yuugi's defeat from Kaiba, all the way up to the time where Kujaku Mai/Mai Valentine plays her Mirror Wall card in the finals. This means, this manga contains the entire battle between Pegasus and Kaiba, as well as the dinner table scene where they find out their opponents (which also contains some comic humor from Pegasus not seen in the anime). However, the Anzu/Tea, Honda/Tristan, Ryou/Bakura and Pegasus scene NEVER took place in the original manga. Nevertheless, you "do" get hints of Cecelia/Cyndia anyway. However, don't think that means Honda is completely neglected. He and Bakura go off to find Mokuba and actually get themselves into a decent amount of trouble.

I would recommend this book to any manga lover. (You will certainly get a kick out of it!) ^^
