Avengers Rock On 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

Is there a skrull in the house? The post civil war conspiracy continues...Brian Michael Bendis continues his tremendous run on Tony Stark's new assemblage of heroes and is reunited with artist Mark Bagley. The Mighty Avengers are in fact, a pretty old combo of occasional heroes who graced the covers over 20 years ago: Ms Marvel; Black Widow: Wasp; Wonder Man and Spider Woman - joined by relative newbies: the enigmatic Sentry and Ares the God of War . The difference now is that the world around them is a lot deadlier, while the heroes themselves have become a lot spunkier. Throw in Doctor Doom, a Venom Bomb, Morganna Le Fay and we have a really juicy story going. The Avengers are always at their best when they (a) have internal conflicts and (b) have world domination issues to deal with. Both needs are addressed here, as the new (yet old) generation of Avengers become more and more interesting. What will happen next? Highly entertaining.

Editorial Review:

The Ultimate Spider-Man super-team of Bendis and Bagley reunite - and just in time for the Avengers' biggest problem ever! A Venom virus hits the city of New York, turning its inhabitants symbiote! Plus, Wonder Man gets a much needed makeover. All this and Tony Stark gets himself a green-skinned present in a body bag. Collects Mighty Avengers #7-11.

As a former elementary teacher and now a grandmother, I buy and enjoy a lot of children's books. I found this one by chance on line at Amazon, bought two for my grandsons (3 and 4). I was so impressed I even showed it to my husband who also thought it was just great for young children who enjoy super heroes and are learning their ABCs. This book is funny, colorful, and original. I highly recommend it. I may even buy another copy for my own collection of children's books.

Editorial Review:

Silly and zany, and armed with the most unusual skills, these heroes are out to save the world-one letter at a time! bubble-Man blows big bubbles at bullies, and laughing lass laughs at lawbreakers! together, these one-of-a-kind defenders represent the ABC's in a way never seen before.

Renowned comic-book illustrator bob mcleod has created a full cast of humorous and delightful characters, sure to please anyone in need of a hero to save the day.

Unexpected 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

The reason Im not giving this book a perfect score is because I still
feel it is not at the same level as Watchmen,DKR,V for Vendetta etc.
with that said this is an incredibley well written and drawn graphic novel
which is really saying something coming from me since Im not really into
the "mainstream" comic scene and with the exception of the incredible Hulk and Ironman, I've always found these characters to be cheesey. Fortunately The re-imaged characters here are not cheesey at all in fact
I was impressed by how Mark Millar managed to make all six main characters
three dimensional and engaging , wich is quite a feat since most comics tend to focus on one main character, the supporting cast was also exellent. The main conflict in the story has been done a million times before but was well executed and the art work while not a master piece
was solid and consistant. I guess my main complaints about this book have
already been stated by the previous people who have been more critical about this book ; the radical personality changes, pop culture references,
Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury (which didn't really bother me in fact it made it easier for me to imagine what this Fury was like character wise).
Purist will and do hate this take on the avengers mainly due to the fact that this is not the black and white tale of good versus evil from the golden ages. Instead this tale humanizes these extraordinary classic characters which makes you appreciate their original source. All in all
I suppose I will recommend this book to people who don't know much about the avengers or those who were not very fond of them but are now curiuos
enough to pick up one of their titles.
Enjoy.

Editorial Review:

Geoff Johns hits his stride 5 out of 5 stars.
12 of 12 people found this review helpful.

Green Lantern: Wanted - Hal Jordan compiles issues 14 through 20 of the current GL series. The first story covers the capture of Hal Jordan and two of his fellow pilots by terrorists where they are tortured for over three months prior to escaping. When the terrorists are located again, Hal goes in to capture them and rescue a recaptured comrade when an unexpected turn of events causes all hell to break loose and he ends up being branded an international criminal. This roller coaster ride ultimately leads Hal Jordan to a figure linked to the day Hal first became a Green Lantern as well as events that will play a large part in his imminent future.

The second story arc in this collection features the return of an old Green Lantern foe, Star Sapphire. This time around there is a new twist to how her powers are generated. I won't spoil the details but it is an interesting spin on an old character and could have major ramifications for the Green Lantern Corp in future stories.

Both stories move along very well and appear to form a foundation for larger events in the future. The art switches from Ivan Reis in the first story to Daniel Acuna in the second. Acuna paints in a somewhat funky style, while Reis provides highly detailed pencils makes so it is a particularly jarring change. Fortunately, Geoff Johns writes the entire volume so there is at least some cohesion.

This book is not only very entertaining in its own right, it appears to be a foundation for major events in the future. I'm wary of every saying "Green Lantern will never be the same again" because that tag line is used all the time and is virtually never true. I will say that in the near future, events will likely unfold whose seeds are planted here. The bottom line is that whether reading solely for the present or preparing for the future this book is well worth owning.

Editorial Review:

Test pilot Hal Jordan was chosen to represent an intergalactic police force created by the oldest beings in existence, the Guardians of the Universe. He now protects Earth and all of space sector 2814 from every extraterrestrial threat imaginable, armed with a specially crafted power ring that turns his will into reality.

In this volume, Hal has been framed for murder and is a fugitive on the run from a legion of intergalactic bounty hunters and the new Global Guardians. He must clear his name and discover who put a price on his head as well as the shocking reason why.

Ironman 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

My 3 and 5 year old love this book. They are not allowed to watch the movie due to the violent scenes so this book allows them to know the story of Ironman as a basis for their action figures. It is a great beginner reader for my 5 year old.

Editorial Review:
