Step 2 in a 7 step program 5 out of 5 stars.

After reading the first book and diving headfirst into this one (like I did) you notice how the story itself is so well put together because it's like there was never a seperation. This starts where book 1 left off. And unlike book 1, where you can tell the main focus of the story was to develop who it is you're reading about and get planted into their lives, this book begins the slow yet ultimately satisfying dark plunge that the series as a whole is going to take.

During and after reading this you will come to understand that the rollercoaster of friendship, magic, prophacies, and ressurecting evil wizards is shaping up to be one hell of a ride.

Good 3 out of 5 stars.

Second favourite in the series! 5 out of 5 stars.

This is my second favourite in the series after Book 6.Splendid book, still addictive and brilliant!

Excellent 5 out of 5 stars.

"Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" starts out with Harry Potter, back at the Dursleys' for summer break. The Durseleys have not changed and are still not nice to Harry. Then, a flying ford filled with Weasleys shows up and Harry is off to visit with the Weasleys utill school starts.

The author manages to change the story line quite a bit from the first HP book and we are immersed in another series of Harry Potter adventures. This time, the dangers get a bit more sophisticated. Eventually, all ends well.

While this book is written for children, the characters are beginning to develop and the story is broadened beyond the confines of the first book. Also, there is a start to deepening our knowledge and understanding of the evil that threatens Harry's magical world.

This is an excellent fantasy adventure. I recommend the book.

Excellent, Nearly Super 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

"Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" takes Harry back to school for his fifth year. This is the longest and most complicated book so far. I think that it is excellent and comes close to being a super book. However, J.K. Rowling did run into some problems. The major problem is how one fits a great deal into a smaller space. Yet, the author must be true to several ideas that permeate the entire series.

The result is a book that is somewhat darker than any previous book and a book that is somewhat more difficult to read.

I think that younger readers should read this book, one chapter at a time. This will be hard to do, because the earlier books could, almost, be swallowed whole. Here, one must chew on the story, one bite at a time.

Is it possible to improve on what J.K. Rowling wrote? Perhaps. However, I am glad that I do not have to try to do that.

Really, the introductory review supplied by the publisher (way up above) gives a good enough idea of what to expect in terms of specifics. Harry is older and is going through a tough phase of adolescence. The tension is growing between the forces of good and evil. And, Harry must grow up. In addition, all the major characters face some growing pains. Further, the author must point the tale in a particular direction to start lining up a clean direction towards the ending of the series. This requires that the plot must include the death of a semi-major character.

In short, the ending is not quite the heroic success of the previous endings. Nor is the ending as neatly tied together. Finally, the plot of the entire series turns in unexpected and complicated ways.

Yet, I rate this book highly. Have some patience reading this book. There is a lot of material to digest.

This is a very good book but requires some effort on the part of the reader.

Editorial Review:

This cloth-covered deluxe edition features full-color printed endpapers and a foil-stamped title on the spine, and comes complete with a full-color slipcase with matte lamination and foil-stamping. Best of all, the removable, suitable-for-framing book jacket is emblazoned with exclusive, original artwork (that's different than the regular edition) by illustrator Mary GrandPré--a one-of-a-kind keepsake that you won't find anywhere else.

The magic of Harry Potter 5 out of 5 stars.

I read this book a few years ago, when the the thrill of Harry was in it's prime. I've seen the movie more times than I can count and I must say the movie is excellent but not as good as the book. I've just reread this book and can't beleive all I had forgotten. It's truly a page turner. From the start when Harry spots the Grim to when Mr Weasley warns Harry of Sirius Black's escape and hunt for Harry the reader is hooked. The Maurader's Map is a great addition to the Invisibility Cloak. The first 2 books were good, but you truly don't get into Harry until this book. Ron and Hermione's relationship is beginning to bud. Hermione is truly the goody goody in this installment. There were times I was mad at her with Ron and Harry. Getting the history of Harry's father's friends helped the story advance with background. This book also helps paint the picture of Snape and his hatered for Harry. The introduction of the Patronus is excellent. It's just as amazing in the book and the movie did a great job of reproducing it. All in all, I loved this book and recommend it to everyone who enjoys magic and fantasy reads.

Editorial Review:

Harry Potter has to sneak back to Hogwarts, after accidentally inflating his horrible Aunt Petunia. But once there everyone is whispering about a prizoner who has escaped from the famous wizard prizon, Azkaban. His name is Sirius Black, and as a follower of Lord Voldemort he is determined to track Harry Potter down -- even if it means laying siege to the very walls of Hogwarts!

Excellent 5 out of 5 stars.

"Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" is much thicker than the previous HP books. Once again J.K. Rowling takes her magical series of tales in a darker direction. However, do not be mistaken. There is plenty of light touches and twists and turns to keep the intrest of teenagers. Early on, we are treated to a professional quidditch match, followed by a touch of evil. Harry gets back to school again, then the competition for the Triwizard cup begins. The competition is quite exciting. And, the ending of the story is breathtaking. Meanwhile, we meet Mad Eye Moody and Rita Skeeter and continue to bumb into characters such as Snape. Also, Harry begins to notice that girls are interesting.

For me, the series picked itself up to a higher level, again.

I recommend this book.

In my opinion the best Harry Potter novel 5 out of 5 stars.

In my opinion the best Harry Potter novel. Maybe not the best movie but as far as book go the best. The imagination from JK Rowling was far better, Harry starts to grwo up. Prof Snipe is scary in this book.

Oh la la! We're going to a museum to see masterpieces! 5 out of 5 stars.
11 of 18 people found this review helpful.

What is there not to like about Fancy Nancy! Since this series began, young readers (and their parents) have held in their hands someone precious and pretty and sweet and fancy. The artwork is simply adorable and utterly feminine in depicting the precious and precocious Nancy.

With this reader, Fancy Nancy joins the I Can Read! group of books. At Level 1 (which this book is) the reader is offered "simple sentences for eager new readers." However, a little more is added: "big" words and French words, making this book a wonderful learning experience, from fancy clothes, art terms, a field trip, and the slogan: Kindness is practiced here, through Ms Glass's generosity in sharing her art shirt and beret with Nancy after her disaster.

Nancy and the other children learn the meaning of landscapes (as they view them), still lifes, and portraits. They learn merci, oh la la, spectacular, beret, gallery, masterpiece, observant. Obviously, this book is more than a repetitive reader. It challenges above level, a strategy that pushes learning without being ridiculous.

Parents and librarians, if you haven't seen Fancy Nancy books, please look into these titles: Fancy Nancy Loves! Loves!! Loves!!! (Fancy Nancy), Fancy Nancy and the Posh Puppy (Fancy Nancy), and the next reader: Fancy Nancy and the Boy from Paris (I Can Read Book 1).

Your daughters will love this charming little girl. And I believe you will, too!

Nancy's class is going on a trip to the museum. Even after a bumpy bus ride, Nancy finds a way to make the day extra-fancy!

Treat Yourself Right Now 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I wish it was possible to give a book six stars on Amazon. Or ten stars. Or a hundred stars. Not for just any book, mind you; only for those that pack such emotional wallop, humor, and writing into them that the usual scale just doesn't do them justice. The sort of book like the young adult novel The Absolutely True Story of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie that just makes you immediately realize this book deserves way more than just five stars.

Arnold (also known as Junior), lives on the Spokane Native American Reservation where drinking and dysfunction are imprinted on the genes of its inhabitants. Arnold's faced a lot in his life, including being born as a hydroencephalic to well-meaning but disappointing parents. But as Arnold looks around and sees how everyone, including his older sister, has given up, something is sparked within and he becomes determined to make something of his life. So with lots of courage, Arnold talks his parents into letting him attend Reardon High School, the "white" school outside the reservation that will give him the contacts and advantages the rez school cannot.

From the moment Arnold steps into Reardon, his life changes, as he knew it would, and a lesser person would have been brought down immediately in the face of becoming an outcast on the reservation for having the nerve to think he could be "better". Life at Reardon is difficult, too; as the only Indian at the school, Arnold's got to somehow forge friendships from people very different than himself. But Arnold's not a quitter, even when he's forced to walk the distance to school because his father is either too drunk or too broke to take him; not even when his former schoolmates and their parents turn out en masse to boo and throw things when he plays basketball against the rez school. Arnold takes refuge in his skill as a cartoonist and his self-knowledge that somehow he will survive.

The story is told with liberal humor and lots of tragedy, and Arnold is a typical self-deprecating teen. Alexie's writing is the kind I'd like to actually crawl inside, it's so good. An example is when Arnold's math teacher convinces him that he can better himself: "I was starting to understand. He was a math teacher. I had to add my hope to somebody else's hope. I had to multiply hope by hope." Later, while clinging to his mother following a devastating tragedy, Arnold says: "...she held on to me for hours. Held onto me like I was a baby. And she kept crying. So many tears. My clothes and hair were soaked with her tears. It was, like, my mother had given me a grief shower, you know? Like she'd baptized me with her pain."

When you finish some books and close them, you may know you've enjoyed them by the way you're left feeling. Maybe you're smiling over a happy ending, or you're breathing hard because you've survived an action-filled climax. With The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, there will be so much more; Arnold is going to live with you in his heart-warming, hopeful manner forever.

Six stars. One hundred stars. One very large star that supersedes all others. Whatever. This book is simply one of the best I've read. I cannot recommend it highly enough for people of all ages.

Editorial Review:

In his first book for young adults, bestselling author Sherman Alexie tells the story of Junior, a budding cartoonist growing up on the Spokane Indian Reservation. Determined to take his future into his own hands, Junior leaves his troubled school on the rez to attend an all-white farm town high school where the only other Indian is the school mascot. Heartbreaking, funny, and beautifully written, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, which is based on the author's own experiences, coupled with poignant drawings by acclaimed artist Ellen Forney, that reflect the character's art, chronicles the contemporary adolescence of one Native American boy as he attempts to break away from the life he was destined to live.

An ok book but not for teens 3 out of 5 stars.
3 of 7 people found this review helpful.

I downloaded the audio version of this book after reading the reviews. I don't like reading books with a lot of cursing and sex in them so I have been sticking to the young adult section thinking it would be safer. So I was pretty shocked when I had only been listening to the book for about 10 minutes before the fist f-word was used. Maybe I'm a prude but I really hate that word and it and other words were used far to often in this book. The story was pretty good, it took me a while but I did get interested in it. But if I had teenage kids there is no way I would let them read this. The language is terrible and there is far to much sex talk. Most of the guys in the book are very inappropriate with the exception of Dmitry, he's pretty cool.

Pop-up review 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I not only shop at Amazon all the time but I also make sure to get the pop-up books by Robert Sabuda because neither one will disappoint. I am always amazed by the surprising elements in each of Robert Sabuda's books. I was first introduced to his books from a teacher in the school where I teach. I've bought a book each year for my granddaughter ever since. You'll never go wrong buying from Amazon as well as buying Robert Sabuda's books. Each year is better than the last.

Gotta love Sabuda books 4 out of 5 stars.

Everything I've seen with Robert Sabuda's name on it is just lovely. The pop-up books are so intricate and interesting, and this is no exception. I do find that I have to remind myself to read the text because I'm too entertained by the pictures-- but I think that's all right.

Editorial Review:

Readers will delight in this retelling of the classic story of Neverland, pirates, and flying. Robert Sabuda's elegant text and paper engineering give new life to favorite charcters like Tinkerbell, Wendy, Michael, and John, and, of course, Peter Pan. Sabuda's beautiful pop-ups are further complemented by full color illustrations that pull readers even deeper into the magical world that is Neverland.
