witch/romance 5 out of 5 stars.

OMG!!! Do you know how much this book rocked!!!

The book Jinx is all about a girl named Jean. She orriginally lived in Iowa and moved for the semester and the summer in with her mothers siter, or her cousins family. Her relatives live in New York, which is a long way away form Iowa if you had a map.

In this "loving" family are three kids: Tory, Ted, and Alice.

The first day things seem to be turning for Jean. She med Tory's friends: Robert, Shawn, Chanelle, Tiffany, Gretchen, and Zach.

She is totally attracted to Zach, who seems to be one year older than everyone there including her. Than she notices that Zach's the one that her cousin, Tory is after. She immediately backs off and says they are only friends.

This story comes in contact with the horrid witchcraft that we all know and love. Romance of two human beings (duh!), and of couse what novel of Meg Cabot's wouldn't be complete without a little drug usage.

I thought this book was the best book i've read all summer!!,
and believe me i read ALOT over the summer!

I really hope you enjoy "Jinx" by Meg Cabot.

Enjoy
~Lainy~
ps. Omg i just <3 witchcraft and the things you can do with it. Every imagine you were a witch. The wizards of Waverly place that's what i always image i would be. its so cool

Editorial Review:

The only thing Jean Honeychurch hates more than her boring name (not Jean Marie, or Jeanette, just . . . Jean) is her all-too-appropriate nickname, Jinx. Misfortune seems to follow her everywhere she goes–which is why she’s thrilled to be moving in with her aunt and uncle in New York City. Maybe when she’s halfway across the country, Jinx can finally outrun her bad luck. Or at least escape the havoc she’s caused back in her small hometown.
But trouble has definitely followed Jinx to New York. And it’s causing big problems for her cousin Tory, who is not happy to have the family black sheep around. Beautiful, glamorous Tory is hiding a dangerous secret–one that she’s sure Jinx is going to reveal.

Jinx is beginning to realize it isn’t just bad luck she’s been running from. It’s something far more sinister . . . and the curse Jinx has lived under since the day she was born might just be the only thing that can save her life.

They Have Sex in Dressing Rooms 1 out of 5 stars.
3 of 8 people found this review helpful.

As a parent of a daughter, I was disappointed at the twisted values of the characters. Selfish, hedonistic, material, snobish, I could continue but I'm sure you get the drift. They are NOT the kind of characters I would want my daughter to emulate, and unfortunately many girls do. For those of us that grew up thinking that a Judy Blume novel was a little daring, these Gossip Girl books make Blume look like Blue's Clues in comparison.

Editorial Review:

elcome to New York Citys Upper East Side, where my friends and I get everything and everyonewe want. Snagging the latest Marc Jacobs bag or your best friends boyfriend isnt pretty, but its always hot . . . Its almost graduation and our lives are really heating up. Everybodys into college and its obviously time to partyas if we hadnt been doing that already! Will Blair and Nates love affair continue? More importantly, will Blair finally get into Yale? Or will Nate and Serena hook up in New Haven and leave Blair alone in the city? And as for the juiciest scoop of all, whats this we hear about Jenny leaving Constance Billard to go to boarding school? Only time will tell how everyone will end up, but one things for sure: love is in the air, and it smells a lot like Gucci Envy.

disappointed 1 out of 5 stars.
7 of 14 people found this review helpful.

I ordered multiple copies of this book before I read it and now I am sorry I did. Although the book captures bullying at its worst, I must say I was disappointed that there was no resolution to the pain and suffering Linda experienced at the hands of her classmates. I found it unrealistic for Linda to then join Wendy in tormenting other students. As for Jill, the tables were turned on her, but she never truly understood the pain she also caused Linda. There were never any apologies or consequences for the action of the students in this book. I had planned to put this book in my classroom library, but I will not due to some of the language used in the text. Call me old fashioned, but calling a teacher a __tch is not necessary, and neither is some of the other language that is sprinkled throughout the text.

The story of Bullies and the Bullied 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

The story is surrounds the experiences of being a bully and being bullied by them. The main character is Jill, who is in the group of girls who bullies this girl, Linda who they dubbed as "Blubber" because of her essay about whales. It grew from just an inside joke to the rest of their peers, making Linda's life a living hell.

I spent reading this book emotionally. I actually feel like wringing some of the characters' necks! This would be one of the good books out there to introduce to the kids the problem of bullying and how to handle them in such a young age. Nevertheless the ending is kind of disturbing to be since there doesn't seem to be a justification to the story itself. The adults too doesn't seem to be much involved in trying to work out the bullying problem, which is kind of a shame. Nevertheless it's a good read.

Editorial Review:

Jill goes along with the rest of the fifth-grade class in tormenting a classmate and then finds out what it's like when she, too, becomes a target.

Pretty Good Start 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Avery, Baby, and Owen Carlyle moves into Blair Waldorf's old place on the Upper East Side. Avery immediately wants to be a teen socialite, Owen is desperate to find the girl he fell for the summer before who lives in NY as well and Baby just wants to go home to Nantucket. As they all quickly find out what they want isn't easy. Avery's makes enemies with the wrong girl in school: popular girl Jack Laurent. Owen quickly finds out that the girl he wanted is the girlfriend of his only friend Rhys Sterling and Baby tries to get herself in trouble so she can be expelled and go home.
It's a good start to a new series and a lot of people are going to make the mistake of comparing the Carlyles and the other characters to the old characters of the now retired original series but you have to see it in a different light as a different series which is what it is. There is very little mention of the old characters in the blog and readers will have to know that the B in the book isn't Blair and the J isn't Jenny. Unlike in The It Girl, the characters aren't cookie cutters of the ones in the original Gossip Girl series. Although this book is mainly about the triplets, the character that makes the book interesting is Jack, who is supposed to be the Blair (or queen bee) of this series although if you ask me she's more like Cammie from the A-List. Jack stands out in the series and I can't wait to see what she does next since I know she wants revenge on the Carlyle girls after what happens at the end. So far none of the guys work for me. Just like with the original series there are only two main ones: Owen and Rhys and one supporting one, J.P. (Jack's boyfriend) whose point of view we don't get to read. Owen is a little too egotistical about his looks and Rhys is too sensitive after his breakup with Kelsey who isn't worth it anyway but there has only been one book so hopefully they will improve throughout the series. I hope the series doesn't get stale and boring like The It Girl did after the first three books, though.
Grade: B+

Editorial Review:

Blair Waldorf and Serena van der Woodsen were the reigning princesses of the Upper East Side.

Until now.

In Gossip Girl, The Carlyles the inimitable Gossip Girl introduces the most fabulous sixteen year-old triplets to ever inhabit the Upper East Side. When the Waldorfs move from their apartment at the end of Don't You Forget About Me, the Carlyle triplets of Nantucket, Massachusetts--Owen, Baby, and Peyton-- move in. In the new titles of the Gossip Girl series, we will follow the Carlyles, plus three other teenagers living in gorgeous apartments, attending the most exclusive prvate schools-- the familiar Constance Billard School for Girls and St. Jude's School for Boys-- and treating New York's Upper East Side as their personal playground. Welcome to the new era.

Lucky for you, Gossip Girl is there to whisper all their juicy secrets...

JiTTeRbOx895's Review! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

So, I picked up this book at my local library and it was so good! I read it almost two years ago and back then my reading level was a little bit better than a monkey, so this book is fairly easy to read. But that never takes away from the great thrill that it gives you to read it since it IS a mystery! Basically, we are taken into the Netherfield family's new home to be introduced to Hero. Hero is always the second prettiest in her family next to her older sister Beatrice. But this doesn't matter, she doesn't care about her looks. Hero is asked to take something over to their next door neighbor's house where she meets Mrs. Roth who is an old widowed woman that tells her old stories about the previous owner of Hero's house. Mrs. Roth tells her the infamous story about the missing Murphy diamond hidden somewhere in the Netherfiled's house.
Since we know that Hero and Beatrice are named after characters in Shakespeare's play "Much Ado About Nothing", we also know that other facts about Shakespeare will pop up along the story line.
Hero makes friends with one of the most popular middle school boys possible. Danny is let in on some unknown facts about the location of the hidden diamond, and soon Hero and Danny are setting off to find it.
During this story, I was into it so much that I read it in about one night. So read it people! The worst that will happen is that you put it down (yea right!) and stop reading it! Just give it a shot.
I hope you enjoyed this review and check out all my others!

Editorial Review:

Starting sixth grade at a new school is never easy, especially when your name is Hero. Named after a character in a Shakespeare play, Hero isn’t at all interested in this literary connection. But when she’s told by an eccentric neighbor that there might be a million dollar diamond hidden in her new house and that it could reveal something about Shakespeare’s true identity, Hero is determined to live up to her name and uncover the mystery.

a must read for anyone who is, was, or will be a child 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

Jerry Spinelli is probably the greatest young adult novelist (yes, novelist) for a very good reason. Not only are his books incredibly human and powerful, capturing those illusive essential truths of childhood and adolescence, but they are written in an incredible (yet accessible) modernist, lyrical, and, well--beautiful--prose that captures all the emotions, wonders, and confusions of childhood. His stories seem familiar, and yet they never fall into the trappings of predictability or neatly convenient packaging. In all of these ways, he writes novels that really are good for children of every age (from 0 to 118). In Loser, Zinkoff is one of those off-center kids (another Spinelli gem), messy and silly, a klutz and a joke, gets everything wrong and loses every race. And yet, he is an incredibly happy, innocent, and deeply loving creature. The book is really a character study of this kid, how the world views him, how he views the world. As such, it is incredibly beautiful and poetic, dreamy and childlike. It's an incredible novel, for any age. Grade: A-

Editorial Review:

Just like other kids, Zinkoff rides his bike, hopes for snow days, and wants to be like his dad when he grows up. But Zinkoff also raises his hand with all the wrong answers, trips over his own feet, and falls down with laughter over a word like "Jabip."

Other kids have their own word to describe him, but Zinkoff is too busy to hear it. He doesn't know he's not like everyone else. And one winter night, Zinkoff's differences show that any name can someday become "hero."

4th Grade Class Top Ten Winner 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This review is for There's a Boy in the Girl's Bathroom. It was written by Louis Sachar. This book is funny fiction.
Bradley Chalkers is a mean bully that bullies everyone in the school. He tells so many lies. Jeff Fishkin is a nice kid that is not a bully. Carla is a counselor who is trying to help Bradley learn to be nice. Will Bradley turn nice and be friends with Jeff or will he stay like a bully? Which boy enters the girl's bathroom? Read to find out more.
The author's message is if you want to have friends you have to be nice. The other lesson is to be yourself at a birthday party. It is on our class's top 10 because it is funny. Also it has some great lessons.

Editorial Review:

A boy who fights with his school mates, and makes it difficult for anyone to like him, learns how to be accepted. This hilarious yet moving story bears all the classic hallmarks of a Sachar novel -- pace, humour, modernity and sensitivity. "Give me a dollar or I'll spit on you. " That's Bradley Chalkers for you. He's the oldest in his class, he tells enormous lies, he picks fights with girls, and teachers say he has "serious behaviour problems. " No-one likes him -- except Carla, the new school counsellor. She thinks Bradley is sensitive and generous, and she even enjoys his far-fetched stories. Carla knows that Bradley could change, if only he weren't afraid to try...A story of isolation, bravery and gradual acceptance told with great humour by Louis Sachar, the author of the brilliant Holes.

This book is wonderful!
With many plot twists, it shows the life of a young runner, and how difficult high school years can be.
It's a fantastic read, and one of the best books I've ever read. Two thumbs up!

Liv's Book Reviews 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

The more books I read, the more predictable they become. I guess that's to be expected because as I go, I'm absorbing more plots, characters, and author ideas so I'm able to compare and predict more and more. And for the most part, this book was very predictable. I think it was a lot like She's So Money except with the genders reversed; what with the tutoring, the unreachable jock, the falling for each other in the end. It was all so cliched and unexciting. I knew what was going to happen through out the whole book and something like that is not enjoyable to read in the least...except it was. Weirdly, as unexciting as the story was, I wasn't completely lulled or put off. There was some little thing in there that made me not want to put the book down. I think it may have been how relatable Natalie was as a main character. Her character was one of the main things the author got right. Natalie is that perfect girl who you feel could be your best friend. She was written so that she would have issues and flaws and yet still seem like someone who deserved a happy ending, and for me, that was the one part that redeemed the book. The plot was ordinary, the side characters were ordinary, the ending was completely and utterly ordinary; but the one unordinary thing in the book, Natalie, was the one thing that made it worth reading. And I would recommend this book, just so you can meet a super cool girl that you may possibly want to make your new best friend.

Hilarious 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I have loved the Georgia books since I was a younger teenager. Now that I am not, I still laugh violently because I never know what I am about to read each paragraph, and thus I cannot read them in public, or people think I am crazy. Louise Rennison never dissapoints, but my only qualm is that as the series goes on, the books do get bigger, however the time frame they cover gets sorter and this book covers only a couple of weeks. Still, I can't WAIT for the next one.

HILARIOUS! 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is possibly even greater than all the other Confessions of Georgia Nicholson! It continues Georgia's love triangle and even adds another point. Time for another trip into the bakery of luuurve...

Editorial Review:

The nub and gist is that I have accidentally acquired two Luuurve Gods.

Oh my giddy god! Georgia has somehow landed back in the cakeshop of agony now that Robbie the Sex God has returned and she has three potential snoggees. What's a proper girl to do? Hide, of course, and hope that she will be able to choose one before she ends up all aloney on her owney.
