Editorial Review:

The social minefields most privileged middle-school girls drive the over-the-top drama in this addictive new book, set in suburban New York City's Westchester County. Massie Block: With her glossy brunette bob and Whitestrip smile, Massie is the uncontested ruler of The Clique and the rest of the social scene at Octavian Country Day, an exclusive private school in Westchester, New York. Dylan Marvil: Massie's second in command who divides her time between sucking up to Massie and sucking down Atkins shakes to try to get rid of the extra fifteen pounds that won't seem to leave her hips alone. Alicia Rivera: As sneaky as she is beautiful, Alicia floats easily under adult radar because she seems so 'sweet.' Would love to take Massie's throne one day. Just might do it. Kristen Gregory: She's been dying to fit in ever since her parents went broke. She's smart, hardworking and will insult you to tears faster than you can say 'scholarship kid.' And then there's Claire Lyons, the new girl in two-year old GAP overalls from Florida, who is clearly not Clique material. The only problem is that Claire's family is staying in the guest house on the Blocks' massive estate while they look for a new home! Claire's future looks worse than a bad Prada knockoff. But with a little luck and a lot of scheming, Claire might just come up smelling like Chanel Mademoiselle...

Shockingly poor quality paperback books 1 out of 5 stars.
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

Ramona is one of my favorite characters in children's literature, so I sent this collection to my niece for her birthday.

When I arrived at my brother's house, and saw the poor quality of the books I was shocked. I have never given a child a book before that was made to fall apart after one reading.

Good-bye to my fantasy of her reading it over and over or giving it to a friend!

We love Ramona! 5 out of 5 stars.

My 7-year-old would rather read than sleep. This collection has been a delight for her and her ravenous appetite for reading. Ramona is Great! Fun stories, very engaging.

These books are great. We got them for a co-worker who recently got a bad haircut that looked like Ramona. She remembered the books from when she was a kid. She loved reading them and feeling like a kid again. They arrived on time and and in good condition. Thanks.

Editorial Review:

What's a Princess to do?

It's Mia's senior year, and things seem great. She aced her senior project, got accepted to her dream college(s), and has her birthday gala coming up . . . not to mention prom, graduation, and Genovia's first-ever elections.

What's not to love about her life? Well . . .

  • Her senior project? It's a romance novel she secretly wrote, and no one wants to publish it.
  • Prince Phillipe's campaign in the Genovian elections isn't going well, thanks to her totally loathsome cousin René, who decided to run against him.
  • Her boyfriend, J.P., is so sweet and seemingly perfect. But is he the one?
  • And her first love, Michael, is back from Japan . . . and back in her life.

With Genovia's and her own future hanging in the balance, Mia's got some decisions to make: Which college? Which guy? How can she choose? Especially when what she decides might determine not just the next four years, but . . . forever!

The best book I have ever read 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This is the best book I have read. It is fiction tipped to the brink of non. This book breaks your heart and leaves you cold. However, the gripping and truthful ways of the story let you into the lives of so many countless lost teens. This book is a look into the lives of the ignored ones.

Read it, please.

Editorial Review:

January 24th

After you've had it, there isn't even life without drugs....

It started when she was served a soft drink laced with LSD in a dangerous party game. Within months, she was hooked, trapped in a downward spiral that took her from her comfortable home and loving family to the mean streets of an unforgiving city. It was a journey that would rob her of her innocence, her youth -- and ultimately her life.

Read her diary.

Enter her world.

You will never forget her.

For thirty-five years, the acclaimed, bestselling first-person account of a teenage girl's harrowing decent into the nightmarish world of drugs has left an indelible mark on generations of teen readers. As powerful -- and as timely -- today as ever, Go Ask Alice remains the definitive book on the horrors of addiction.

best dessen book, by far 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

i have to admit, while reading the back of this back at our local bookstore, it didn't really catch my interest, but, being a big fan of sarah dessen, i bought it anyway. after the first couple of chapters though, i couldn't put it down, considering its clever characters and catchy plot. Desson was right on about the emotional feelings after a loved ones passing, and it was very easy to relate to the main character, Macy. ever since witnessing her fathers heart attack, macy has been striveing to be perfect: her grades, her hair, her boyfriend (who goes to "brain camp" over the summer, leaving macy with his library job). but in comes the wish crew, a quirky, crazy catering crew, with sa-woon worthy wes, fashion savy kristy, and loveable delia. before long she hits it off with the whole group, especially wes, playing games of truth, telling him things she hasn't told anyone. no bout, this was my favorite dessen book, and i found myself feeling strongly for each character, hopeing everything worked out for the right people in the end.

Editorial Review:

Sixteen-year-old Macy Queen is looking forward to a long, boring summer. Her boyfriend is going away. She’s stuck with a dull-asdishwater job at the library. And she’ll spend all of her free time studying for the SATs or grieving silently with her mother over her father’s recent unexpected death. But everything changes when Macy is corralled into helping out at one of her mother’s open house events, and she meets the chaotic Wish Catering crew. Before long, Macy joins the Wish team. She loves everything about the work and the people. But the best thing about Wish is Wes—artistic, insightful, and understanding Wes—who gets Macy to look at life in a whole new way, and really start living it….

Editorial Review:

Melinda Sordino busted an end-of-summer party by calling the cops. Now her old friends won't talk to her, and people she doesn't even know hate her from a distance. The safest place to be is alone, inside her own head. But even that's not safe. Because there's something she's trying not to think about, something about the night of the party that, if she let it in, would blow her carefully constructed disguise to smithereens. And then she would have to speak the truth. This extraordinary first novel has captured the imaginations of teenagers and adults across the country.

Before. Miles "Pudge" Halter is done with his safe life at home. His whole life has been one big non-event, and his obsession with famous last words has only made him crave "the Great Perhaps" even more (François Rabelais, poet). He heads off to the sometimes crazy and anything-but-boring world of Culver Creek Boarding School, and his life becomes the opposite of safe. Because down the hall is Alaska Young. The gorgeous, clever, funny, sexy, self-destructive, screwed up, and utterly fascinating Alaska Young. She is an event unto herself. She pulls Pudge into her world, launches him into the Great Perhaps, and steals his heart. Then. . . . After. Nothing is ever the same.

A great book, but a little bit of a repetitive story 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

The Outsiders is a classic tale of the struggles between two gangs in Oklahoma. The gang known as the "Greasers" are characterized by their long, silky, and greasy hair. This group is the lower class, but yet much smarter than the upper class. The upper class gang is the "Socs" or Socials. This story shows the life and tensions between these two gangs. After Johnny, a member of the Greasers kills a member of the Socs even greater tensions rise. This leads Johnny and Ponyboy, whom the story revolves around, to hide out and try to stay away from the police. While in hiding something tragic happens to Johnny, leaving an unthinkable fate. As the gangs are furious with the losses, they declare a rumble. After this rumble, a miraculous thing occurs in the story. Something that is so thrilling you will have to read it to find out!
I really enjoyed this book, although it seemed to be almost an exact replica of West Side Story. That factor in a way took the fun out of reading parts of it, as you could almost guess what was going to happen next. Though for readers not familiar with West Side Story, this book is a fantastic tale of love, hate, and tension. Though I felt it was repetitive, it was very compelling and kept you turning the pages. It also left you wanting more at the end, though the ending was purely fabulous. I recommend this book to young adults and teens who enjoy enticing stories and stories with many genres. This book is a good purchase, and you will not be disappointed!

Editorial Review:

When it was first published in 1967, The Outsiders defied convention with its immediate, deeply sympathetic portrayal of Ponyboy and his struggle to find a place for himself in a difficult world. Thirty years later, it speaks to teenagers as powerfully as ever.

Rumor Has It 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

The book Rumors by Anna Godbersen is a great insight into Manhattan's most popular social scene, in 1899, during the turn of the century. Each of the characters Ms. Godbersen writes about has their own unique personality. Elizabeth was always seen as Manhattan's "good girl", but what is she really hiding? Everyone knows Henry and Penelope were going to get engaged, but what happens now that he proposed to Elizabeth? What about Elizabeth's sister, Diana? She has always been rebellious to traditional ways, but how far will she take it? Each of the characters are about to make decisions that will change the rest of their lives.
After the first chapter of Rumors, the reader is swept into all of the drama. Although at times it can be hard to keep up with which character is preparing to back stab her best friend or tell a new lie, the plot is very interesting. The author does an amazing job of setting up the scene and gives a great description of what is happening in the plot.
While the book is obviously a romantic fiction novel, it does contain some historical information about the end of the nineteenth century. Before I read this book, I had no idea what the wealthy people were treated like at the turn of the twentieth century. Even if a young lady was just going on a shopping trip, she was treated like a goddess. Rumors also shows what the poor people used to live like. They had to work as maids or servants to wealthier people and had to wear hand-me-down clothes. Sometimes the poorer people would do anything to get money, like Lina who sold out her old boss who used to be her good friend.
At a time when everyone is changing, how will they survive? All of the characters are keeping their own secrets, but rumor has it that soon these secrets will all come spilling out.

Editorial Review:

True love. False friends. Scandalous gossip. Welcome back to Manhattan, 1899.

As rumors fly about the untimely demise of New York's brightest star, Elizabeth Holland, all eyes are on those closest to the dearly departed: her sister, Diana, the family's only hope for redemption; Henry Schoonmaker, the flame Elizabeth never extinguished; Penelope Hayes, poised to claim all that her best friend left behind; even Elizabeth's former maid, Lina Broud, who discovers that while money matters and breeding counts, gossip is the new currency. In this delicious sequel to the New York Times bestselling The Luxe, nothing is more dangerous than a scandal . . . or more precious than a secret.

NINTH GRADE SLAYS - THE CHRONICLES OF VLADIMIR TOD
Heather Brewer

Rating: 5 Enchantments

And Vlad thought eighth grade sucked. Now he's in ninth grade. Even though he destroyed the president of the Elysian committee, he finds life as a teen hasn't changed much. His best friend, Henry, seems to have his own popularity fan club, Meredith is interested in Joss, Henry's cousin, and there's a slayer out to get him. Somehow he doubts even Buffy's wisdom could help.

Otis comes back and takes Vlad to Siberia to meet Vikas, the oldest vampire, to learn telepathy and the truth of who he might be. Along the way, Vlad finds out more about the prophesized Pravus, maybe more than he wants to know. How he longs for a warm mug of O positive and a side of fresh chocolate chip cookies.

NINTH GRADE SLAYS is a fun fast-read into the mind of Vlad, a ninth grade half-vampire. Ms. Brewer does a great job of showing the reader that even though Vlad craves blood, he still gets flustered while around the prettiest girl of Bathory High. Vlad's struggles to find out the truth about who he is, rang true.
Readers will want to follow Vlad to the Tenth grade where I'm sure the conflict of his heritage will continue.

Heather Brewer doesn't believe in happy endings...unless they involve blood. Check out her website at www.heatherbrewer.com and her blog - Bleeding Ink at www.heatherbrewer.com/bleedingink where she has ongoing contests. Heather lives with her family in St. Louis, Missouri.

Editorial Review:

High school totally bites when you’re half human, half vampire.

Freshman year sucks for Vlad Tod. Bullies still harass him. The photographer from the school newspaper is tailing him. And failing his studies could be deadly. A trip to Siberia gives “study abroad” a whole new meaning as Vlad connects with other vampires and advances his mind-control abilities, but will he return home with the skills to recognize a vampire slayer when he sees one? In this thrilling sequel to Eighth Grade Bites, Vlad must confront the secrets of the past and battle forces that once again threaten his life. Find out why author D. J. MacHale calls The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod “Gruesome, heartwarming, spellbinding.”
