Editorial Review:

"Good workplaces are worth examining if for no other reason than that they enrich the lives of the people working there. Everyone, after all, would prefer working in a pleasant environment to an unpleasant one. Since most of us spend the greater part of our waking hours at work, this is no small matter."

With this idea in mind, Robert Levering decided to depart from the usual approach – looking at what’s wrong with bad workplaces and how to fix it – and instead sought to discover what is right with truly great workplaces. To do so, Levering interviewed employees and managers at every level of "the best of the best" - the top 20 from his best-selling book, The 100 Best Companies to Work for in America.

In this groundbreaking book, Levering uses interviews and anecdotes from the best employers to:

- Show why the most essential ingredient of a great place to work is trust between employees and management

- Explain why conventional management practices make it difficult to create a good workplace environment

- Provide case studies of positive and negative transformations of workplaces

The inspiring message of this book is that any company can become a great place to work. A Great Place to Work helps employees interpret daily experiences at work and determine what it is possible to expect. But it also informs well-meaning employers with ideas and tips about how to improve the quality of a working environment.

The moonjar is a great way to help teach children about money. I have purchased two of them and have been using them with my children for over a year. I originally started with my 6 year old, but his younger brother (4) wanted to participate as well. We've made a weekly ritual out of dividing they're allowance (about $0.60 per week) across the save, spend, and share jars. They love the whole process: making little towers of out coins in front of the individual money boxes, dropping the coins in the slots of the box as well as talking about how they're going to go about using the money in their boxes for different things. The most valuable aspect of the product is that it provides a tangible way for children to talk about the concepts of saving, sharing and spending. They see the box and the money in it and are able to talk about how it might be used, for example, using money in their share box to donate toys for other children during Christmas. It is a wonderful product. I highly recommend it as well as the book that goes along with it.

Editorial Review:

Just like all the classics, this moneybox is timeless, inspring saving, spending and sharing for a lifetime! Each moneybox has removeable acrylic lids and includes a Family Guide and Passbook.

What are we teaching?? 1 out of 5 stars.
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I wanted to order this chart for my classroom. It looked like a clear, well-organized reference for kids... until I noticed that the word "nickel" is misspelled. That is totally unacceptable!

Nickel is spelled correct 5 out of 5 stars.

I just received mine and went to double check after reading the first review and the spelling is correct. Amazon should probably update the picture (I'll try to submit/post one :)). Otherwise the poster is great - thick, hi-gloss heavy poster paper.

Editorial Review:

This chart targets elementary grades. With bright, photographic images, the poster helps teach about coin money.

There IS something here 5 out of 5 stars.
14 of 17 people found this review helpful.

I first read this book several years ago and not too particularly impressed I put it on my bookshelf and forgot about it. The other day it literally fell off the shelf and landed at my feet. I had completely forgotten about the book. It's a short book; why not read it again I thought. I did and was captivated. What happened? I would have given it two stars before, now I'm giving it five. I changed: In the intervening years I have become somewhat financially successful. Back when I first read it I was looking for some method to make money and didn't find it in that book. Now I know there is none. All books are mirrors of their readers as are these reviews. You have learned more about me than you will ever learn about The 7 Laws from reading this review. What can I tell you? Read the book or don't. When you find that no method or technique ever really works then you won't need this book or any other.

Editorial Review:

These seven simple laws are the secret to a healthy, fearless attitude toward money, liberating its creative potential for everyone. "A friendly, upbeat guide to using money instead of being used by it."--Marsha Sinetar, author of Do What You Love, the Money Will Follow.

Ever think about where a quarter travels? 4 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

A clever look at money and where it might travel throughout its life. Mostly we follow a quarter as it gets minted, sent to a bank, then travels throughout a city (from a grocery store to a parking meter to a garden center) and finally back to the bank. Math is included throughout the book, and readers will be able to figure out page numbers by the amount of money shown on the bottom of the page (e.g. page 25 is a quarter). The text is minimal, though there are several thought bubbles that keep the story moving. The illustrations are clear and colorful; the artist used photographs of money, which makes it stand out. A note is included in the back that gives more information about the history of money and specifically money in the United States. A glossary is also included.

Editorial Review:

A quarter describes all the ways it's used from the time it is minted.

Informational book 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

The book is pretty much what the title says. Don't expect the book to have in-depth coverage of careers included in the book. Note that numerical facts in the book will lose relevance as the book ages. Most outlook of the book goes up to 2014.

The book is best suited for people who wants to know what is out there. Anyone who needs in-depth coverage of a certain career will need some other reference materials. Most of the materials in the book can be obtained through internet research, but it saves a lot of time to have all the information in one source.

Editorial Review:

The U.S. Department of Labor predicts that jobs in financial services will grow 12 percent over the next several years. The demand will be higher for certain positions in accounting, financial reporting, client services, and risk management due both to recently enacted legislation that imposes more rigorous financial reporting standards and to demographic changes, including a rise in the elderly population. "Career Opportunities in Banking, Finance, and Insurance, Second Edition" profiles 86 jobs, including eight new to this edition. All information has been reviewed and updated to reflect current industry trends and salaries. The appendixes have been completely revised and updated as well. The new career profiles include: Account executive, banking; Commercial real estate loan officer; Financial writer; Operations specialist, securities; Performance analyst; Request for proposal writer; Residential mortgage originator; and, Tax preparer.
