This book in the Planet Girl series approaches the subject of money with the verve and hip intelligence the series is known for. Today's girl is no fool -- she knows money can't buy happiness. But if she wants on the bus, or a snack when she's out, she needs some cash flow. Money management often gets left out of home or classroom discussions. Planet Girl has delivered a book that gives practical advice on a range of topics relating to money -- tips on jobs, saving, debt, spending and budgeting, how to become a girl entrepreneur, what to scrimp on (and what not to), the hidden price of cheap, how to reconcile having less than some friends and why fundraising can make girls feel priceless! As expected from the Planet Girl series, the book is chockfull of energetic comics and spot art, and also includes checklists, quizzes, money journal pages to photocopy, a bank lingo glossary and much more. With Centsibility, preparing for a lifetime of smart money management and developing a healthy money attitude has never been easier or more appealing to girls.

Rutgers University Project on Economics and Children 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

A group of resourceful kids are saving up their pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, and paper bills of various denominations in order to purchase supplies for a fabulous new project. Along the way, the kids describe to the reader the monetary value of different coins and bills, some interesting tidbits about the physical appearance of the currency, and examples of items of increasing value that can be purchased with the money. The cheerful illustrations and straightforward text will appeal to children who otherwise may object to a dose of math and economics. The helpful facts and clear presentation in Making Cents can readily empower children to learn about money and take their first steps toward gaining financial literacy.

Editorial Review:

How many nickels are in a quarter? Whose face is on the fifty-dollar bill? You'll find the answers to these questions and many more in this exuberant introduction to denominations, from the penny to the hundred-dollar bill. Catchy prose and illustrations that depict lots of different ways that kids can make money will help young readers appreciate what it takes to earn a buck. Packed with information and insights into American money, this book will show readers how money earned can be transformed into something wonderful.

Simple, yet good content 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I had purchased this to read to my 4.5 yr old and 2 yr old before nap. It is simple enough that my older child can understand it (and my 2 yr old's attention is kept). It does a good job introducing the concepts, containing a decent amount of substance. A good, factual first introduction to money.

Here's my two cents! 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I love this entire series of books. As a elementary school Media Specialist, I am constantly on the look-out out for excellent resources for students and teachers! This series offers large type, photographs to illustrate the content, information at a lower reading level -- but the information contained is exactly what students need to know! Close-up pictures of the back and front of the coins are especially nice!

These books are ideal for students with an interest in money; reading specialists in schools; and elementary media centers.

The only drawback is that I can only find the series in paperback, and not library or hardcover editions.

great for teaching money 5 out of 5 stars.

This book was great for introducing the nickel to young children. There was valuable info on the coin, but the text was not overwhelming for young learners. It definately is geared for kindergarten and first graders!

Editorial Review:

Which president's face is on both a quarter and a dollar bill? How do you know where the money you spend is minted or printed? Bank on this new series to provide kids with a common "cents" point of view on all kinds of money matters - what coins are made of, what all those symbols mean, and how to save or spend it.

Bad coin sorter, but good folder inside 3 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I'd give the coin sorter itself a "1", because of the cheap construction and constant malfunctioning. But, it came with a nice 50 States Coin Folder, so that brings the rating up.

The coin folder has sparked a desire within my kids to learn more about the history of the 50 states.

Editorial Review:

Centripetal force is at work sorting quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies into wrapper-friendly stacks. Use the wrappers included to bank your coins! This is a great way for fiscally minded kids to make good use of their math skills and their money. Read all about it! There is more to money than meets the eye! From bartering to the World Bank, this book chronicles currency as we know it today. Author Frank M. Young also reveals hidden symbols and time-honored images imbedded into today's dollars and cents. Also includes a 50 States Quarters folder, so kids can collect the newly released coins for each of the 50 states.
