Fizzle Quest 2 out of 5 stars.
8 of 9 people found this review helpful.

The first book, Mystic Warrior, ended with a fledgling rebellion (human), a victory over a massive invasion (faerie), and radical regime change (goblin). Its sequel, Mystic Quest, takes place some two decades later where the original characters are placed in peripheral roles. The human protagonist in the first book, Galen Arvad, now the perfunctory leader of the rebellion against the Pir and their dragon masters, has two sons (from different women) who quest for a mythical safe haven for Arad's people. Dwynwyn, the faery, is now queen of the dead and gives her former charge, Aislynn, a quest to return a similarly lost land. Our intrepid goblin king, Mimic, being threatened by his conniving wife and likeminded daughter, sends his new boss mechanic Thux on a mission that will save both their lives.

As in the first book, the three protagonists face similar goals and challenges and encounter comparable metaphorical dreams as their predecessors did. However, the rift in time between the two books in addition to the new primary characters also insures that MQ suffers from the same thing that MW did - a dreadfully slow start.

Not surprisingly, given the intervening years that separate the two books and the new main characters, we're forced to play catch-up for the first hundred or so pages as we discover: what happened to Bikrita, how did Dwynwyn get to be Queen, what has Mimic been doing for the last 20 years? And so on and so forth.

Add to the slow start, you have some very poorly described events. At the end of one chapter, Arvad and his company are swept away in an avalanche. The chapter ends with him finding five of his cohorts and the melodramatic, "The Mists of Arvad (the name of the expedition) were no more..." However in the very next chapter new survivors seem to pop up with every new paragraph to the point where we are left wondering, how bad was this accident?

And finally, the finale - a convoluted jumble of events that was a complete let down. Instead of ending with a bang, it ended in a sigh, a wheeze, and a gasp.

Editorial Review:

Thrice upon a time, three worlds were in peril. Twenty-three years have passed since Galen Arvad first exposed the deep magic. Now that magic brings tragedy and darkness to the lives of all who wield it in the world. Galen and his clans suffer an endless war in the realm of the dragonkings, the fairies contend with a gruesome kingdom of the undead, and in the realm of the reanimated, rusting titans, a tyrant goblin's lust for conquest goes unchecked.A new generation of heroes will set out on separate, life-altering journeys. Whether in search of freedom or atonement, each will find their redemption may be beyond the power of magic#151;for their darkest secrets and greatest dangers are those they bring with them.

This is a good way to get the Weis/Hickman short stories without having to buy a dozen short story collections, or back issues of Dragon magazine. It is incomplete however, and if you love Weis and Hickman, you may still want to go out and get the rest of their short story work that was not deemed good enough for this best of edition.

Editorial Review:

A collection of the best Dragonlance short stories from Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman.

This anthology showcases 20 years of storytelling in the Dragonlance world by gathering into a single volume the most popular stories written by the New York Times best-selling authors Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. Their tales have defined the entire Dragonlance saga from inception to the present day, from the Chronicles to the War of Souls and beyond. Drawn from various Dragonlance anthologies published over the last two decades, each classic story now features an introduction from a Dragonlance author. Each introduction will be different and will share that author's perspective on the past 20 years of Dragonlance tales.

I LOVED THIS!!! 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 6 people found this review helpful.

when i first atsrted reading dragonlance, i kept hearing about the cataclysm, but i feel that noone bothered to add any substantal backround to the event until this book.

this book provided had it all. if you are looking for the same as i did( again alot of insight to what happened before during and shortly after the cataclysym) then this is your book.

Well.... 3 out of 5 stars.

I have to give all the short story novels 3 stars. There are some stories you won't like but they'll 2-4 really great ones that will make the books worth the price.

very cool 5 out of 5 stars.

i like the whole book. my favorite story however was the one about the ghost being restored. again very good book; i cant say enough about it.

This Booked Was Rather Wrecked By The Cataclysm 2 out of 5 stars.

Expecting a moderate to good book, I was stunned by the low level of the literature. this may have been better not written, except for three serious and good tales and one funny ang good tale.
Beginning with traditional poetry in "The Word And The Silence" is not what i like. i usually dislike these poems, but this one was appaling. It made no sense and you couldnt understand one bit of it, even whtever it was trying to tell you. The continuation "Mark Of The Flame, Mark Of The Word", was slightly better, but still bad with no point. "The Bargain Driver", was OK but rather boring and, yet again, had no real connection to the cataclysm and no point. "Seekers" was very good but ruined by its pessmistic atitdude. Though the boy believed in Paladine at the end, the man didn't, and we never found out what happened to his quest. "No Gods, No Heroes", was just a funny tale that wasn't even well written. The only good point was Tarli from "Kender Stew" showing up. "Into Shadow Into Light", was almost the best, carrying in it a very deep moral. "Ogre Unaware" was funny but, again, boring. "The Cobblers Son" was very good and funny, one of the only good stories. "The Voyage Of The Sunchaser", was boring and not even funny, only very dull. "The High Priest Of Halycon", was very good, if a trifle dull. Last and best "True Knight" continues "The Silken Threads" from "The Reign Of Istar" in a beautiful manner, with many hidden messages which they did not understand but we did. The ending is beautiful and fitting.

Editorial Review:

A recover of The New York Times best-selling Tales series. This collection of tales is edited by the creators of the Dragonlance mythology. The Cataclysm contains a number of short stories by popular Dragonlance authors as well as a novella by Weis and Hickman.

Dragons of Chaos is just like the other anthologies. 3 out of 5 stars.
9 of 10 people found this review helpful.

Dragons of Chaos is the same as the other anthologies in the fact that some stories are great and others are truly terrible. This collection of short stories by various authors of the Dragonlance saga has some very good stories. Knaak's Son of Huma is great and so is the Dragon's Eye. But there are others that are simply boring and make you say "I wish I skipped that one." And most of the stories take place either after or before the Chaos war, not during it. But I have to say that Roger Moore's "There is Another Shore..." is probably the best story. It tells of two men who are whisked into a parallel dimension where the Cataclysm never happened! This was an awesome story and should have been a book. It deserves 5 stars itself. So pick up this anthology if just to read Moore's great short story.

Editorial Review:

The Chaos War Rages

For fans of Dragons of Summer Flame, this is a new short-story collection, featuring the brave heroes, dark villains, differing races, and all varieties of dragons of one of the most popular fantasy worlds -- Krynn.

Edited by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, this volume highlights familiar and beloved characters (and creatures), filling in some intriguing gaps of lost Dragonlance history.

Great 5 out of 5 stars.
8 of 9 people found this review helpful.

This is an awesome addition to the books made by Sovereign Press. Glad to see the alternate Krynns. This book does a lot of major things in it, including showing Tas, Caramon, Raistlin going back to the time of Istar and Kingpriest Beldinas, along with the Dwarfgate War, Abys, and the Blue Lady's War. The battle section is great. The alternate Krynn's is every DM dream. I highly recommend this to anyone.

This is a D&D campaign setting, NOT the legends of the twins trilogy. 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 9 people found this review helpful.

No where on this webpage does it say that this is a campaign setting. Yet its titled the exact same as the trilogy name. Quite decieving. Other that that I dont know about the book I returned it.

Best product yet from MWP 5 out of 5 stars.

Krynn is great 4 out of 5 stars.

All the books about the world of Krynn have entertained and this one is no exception. good action and characters give you a book hard to put down. Definitely recommend!

If you like books like this one, might I suggest another I've recently come across. The Unsuspecting Mage by Brian S. Pratt. It's another fantasy adventure sure to please. I highly recommend it.

AMAZING BOOK 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This book is awesome. You should read the whole series. One thing bad about this is that this is the last book of the series.=(

Overall Great Series 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 4 people found this review helpful.

One small complaint however. With the end result being the "balance" of the gods and so forth, the end of the story didn't leave me with a feeling of balance or resolution. To have had a satisfying balance, I think for every main character fighting for "good" that died in battle, a main character fighting for "evil" should have also died. Particularly, a certain human woman who is the evil mastermind behind many of the troubles the companions endure. The death of an evil dragon highlord we barely get to know hardly compensates for the death of one of the faithful companions. Books are very sensual. Parents use caution.

Editorial Review:

An all-new young reader adaptation of the third Dragonlance novel. The third Dragonlance novel in the trilogy that launched the entire Dragonlance novel line, Dragons of Spring Dawning, has been adapted to a format specifically targeted at young readers. The novel has been divided into two volumes, Hope's Flame and A Dawn of Dragons, that are sized and edited to fit the young reader market. These titles contain brand new cover and interior art and finish up the release of young reader adaptations of the entire Chronicles series.

The One and Only 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 8 people found this review helpful.

Dragonlance Adventures (DLA), by Tracy Hickman and Margaret Weis, is "the AD&D game source book for continuing adventures in the world of Krynn." It was published in hardcover in 1987 (later followed by Darksword Adventures, Greyhawk Adventures, Forgotten Realms Adventures, and others) and has not been revised or reprinted since. While it does have its own errors (the timeline, in particular, is considered erroneous), many fans feel it captured the essence and flavor of Dragonlance. DLA is a great resource, so if you find a copy, snatch it up quickly.

Margaret Weis writes: "DL Adventures expressed the DL team's vision of the world, a vision we want to try to recreate with our work at Sovereign Press. I will state here, without apology, that DL Adventures will be taken as the foundation for all things Dragonlance with certain exceptions where applicable (such as the flawed time line)."

DLA provides an overview of the world of Krynn and its history, with a focus on how to run an AD&D campaign in Ansalon set after the War of the Lance. These are some of the main sections in DLA:

"Lot in Life" -- Classes specific to Dragonlance: Knights of Solamnia, Tinkers, Wizards of High Sorcery, and Holy Orders of the Stars (includes information on the 21 gods);

"The Races of Krynn" -- Information on the Krynn-specific PC races and subraces: Kender, Gnomes, Elves, Dwarves (and Gully Dwarves), Irda, and Minotaurs.

"Creatures of Krynn" -- Monsters unique to Dragonlance, including Draconians and Krynn Dragons.

"The World that Was" -- Information on Krynn Pre-Cataclius, including a Map of Ansalon, a timeline, NPCs, and ancient magical items: Dragonlance, Device of Time Journeying, Staff of Magius, Hammer of Kharas, Bloodstone of Fistandantilus, Orb of Dragonkind, etc.

"War of the Lance" -- Information on Krynn Alt-Cataclius, including a Map of Ansalon, a timeline, political conditions, climate, NPCs and PCs of the Legends Trilogy (post-War of the Lance).

Excellent! 5 out of 5 stars.

Why don't ppl write books like this anymore and actually end their series (take a hint Jordan)? Will Zohra end up with matthew? Will matthew make it home? Will Khardan free his brother from the dog faced general? A must READ!

More than 5 stars... I'd give it a 100 stars 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This is the best series of Margaret Weiss. The characters sizzles. I love PUKAH. This series has adventure ,romance, funny moments all wrapped into one. Done very very simultaneously. Unlike other fantasy books, Margaret Weiss style is light , touching, deep n most of all easy to understand n easy to realte to. It will carry you to another world.

The best of the trilogy 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This final book of the Rose of the Prophet trilogy really did it for me. All of the loose ends were wrapped up and the mysteries revealed. While some people seem to think that the ending wasn't satisfactory, I disagree. The book ends with a pretty clear picture of what the future holds for the characters and the resolution of the plot was complete. This was my favorite book of the trilogy because of the fast pace and intense action. While the first two books seemed a bit drawn out and slow due to the neccesities of character and plot development, this book was right to the point and brought the whole trilogy to an exciting climax.

In my opinion, this final volume makes the whole trilogy really worth reading. While not Weis and Hickman's best story that I've read, I still enjoyed it very much.

Editorial Review:

/Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman The Great War of the Gods comes to a close in the last volume of this series. The epic fantasy saga finds Khardin, Zohra, and the wizard Mathew faced with crossing a vast desert. If they survive, the nomads must combat the fiercest of warriors--.

I thought that this was a very good book, but it was missing something that I can't quite put my finger on. There were some very good stories in it, the development was great, but there was something...missing. But this should not discourage you from buying the book, it is still one of the best DL books that I own. And that's saying something

This book is a great blast from the past. It contains some DL history during the Time of Troubles. Updates important characters to D20. Has new spells, and items. Many artifacts from the War of the Lance. Some PRCs. Talks about the lack of divine magic during the time. Has great art. Talks about what's going on with the nations at the time. This is a favorite time for fans in the DL setting. If you like DL, you must get this book.

Must for War of the Lance Lovers. 5 out of 5 stars.

Anything that you want to know about the War of the Lance is in this book. From the way the armies moved, the size of the dragonarmies, to who controlled what land during what portion of the war. So not only is this a great must for gamers, but is also a must for those who loved the Chronicles.

Dragonlance at its best! 5 out of 5 stars.
