I recently purchased a Digi002 and had read another one of the top rated books out there, but this book is so superior. It takes you from level one all the way through so that you get a complete understanding of LE. Written clearly and concisely, this will be my reference book for a long time. Great book!!

The author has (what appears to be) a well-developed tutorial. I didn't use it because it would have been too time-consuming. I was looking for simple explanations for some basic functions: tracking, mixing, editing, inputs, sends and returns. The sometimes flowery writing makes it unnecessarily difficult to understand some basic operations. The services of a competent editor would have improved this book considerably. The author also spends an unnecessary amount of time to explain how to set up the hardware and software. (The owners manuals will get you through that stuff.)
Someone unfamiliar with software recording could benefit from this book. Anyone familiar with this, or similar, recording programs will find this book minimally useful.

This book is missing an essential index.
In order to find a particular shortcut, one must thumb through page after page, reading all of them until the desired one is found.

Ever look through the pro tools shortcut list and ponder: "I THINK I know what that does....." Well, now you can see it before you try it! I was able to quickly pick the shortcuts that pertain to my audio tasks. Great book.

It needs a refresh for the newer versions of PT and the differents type of keybords, but anybody who is a dayly PT User will find this book an amazing tool for reduce time operating the mouse! Thanks Chillitos!

an eye opener on Protools in practice 4 out of 5 stars.

Excellent explanations of the fundamental concepts of Protools. Lots of practical hints and tips (e.g. on the usage of "Aux in" tracks). The focus is not on explaining every Protools feature (that's what the manuals are for), but to give you a clear view on how to use Protools in daily practice. The authors know how to teach (which is not the same as just knowing how to use a tool without being able to explain to others). I would have given 5 stars if there hadn't been several editing errors in (this first edition of) the book (e.g. screenshots not matching the associated description).
