A Very Long Sales Pitch For His $3995 Course... 3 out of 5 stars.

I can't say that I was completely disappointed with this book because there were a few pointers and tid-bits here and there that made it worth the $12.95 price I paid.

Here's what I didn't like:

The whole book is basically a long sales pitch to drive you to Andrew Lock's website which sells a course for $3,995. Wow! No wonder he needed a 134-page book as a sales letter to sell a course/system for that amount of money!

Also, he comes up with this crap about how eBay aches to kick off eBay PowerSellers. Okay, so if you can believe the very thin and unbelievable reason as to why eBay would want to kick off all of their PowerSellers which is who pays their bills then you won't believe the ridiculous way he suggest to get around this problem.

Andrew suggests that you sell under several eBay user IDs instead of just one. Great. However, what Andrew doesn't understand is that eBay tracks users by IP address and if any one of your multiple user accounts gets shut down, ALL OF THEM GET SHUT DOWN because they are "tagged" by identical IP addresses (not to mention having the same registered name and address on each account). So, STUPID IDEA, ANDREW!

Andrew is right, however, about selling your own information products being the best way to make money on eBay. You have to have your own products and sell things that are one-of-a-kind or the competition is too fierce.

This book is worth it if you are an avid eBay seller and want a few extra tips that can help you. Any one tip can make you a ton of money. However, you just have to ignore the sales pitch for his super-expensive course on his website.

This is one of the few eBay books I've read that really gives the whole picture about eBay--not just relentless cheerleading about how much of a sure thing it is. Half of the book is for new buyers; the other is for new sellers. So there's a lot here for new eBay users no matter what they're interesetd in. I like that the authors use a lot of stories from real sellers and buyers to make their points and keep this fun to browse through and read.

If you can suspend your morals for a few minutes -- Gee, why not? Isn't everybody doing it? This book is about how to steal money from ordinary, everyday people who work hard to make even one legitimate buck selling on eBay. I'm one of those sellers, so I have a dog in this fight, only the fight is rigged and I can't do anything about it except to write this review. Here's my advice -- if you feel you really must steal money, please do it from Exxon, Halliburton or Wal-Mart and the like who plan to be stolen from. And if you think suspending your morals for just a few minutes won't make you a bad person, remember that murderers in Sing Sing may have had such a "mere" momentary lapse. I won't go into how eBay itself is ripping off its own sellers, because it has no morals to appeal to. Hopefully, you still do. So please, buy wisely, but don't steal from us. And don't give the seller of this book any of your own hard-earned money to find out how.

One of three books I highly recommend to get when researching eBay selling and how to start an eBay consignment store. 5 out of 5 stars.

I liked this book a lot. It's another book on how to make money using eBay as the backbone to your small retail business. More accurately - it is a book on owning and operating an eBay consignment (or trading assistant) business. It has the following "13" chapters:

1. Is consignment selling on eBay something that should work for you?
2. Where are you getting items to sell on eBay?
3. Opening an eBay consignment store
4. Software and technology regarding your store
5. The mechanics of the business in general

A. eBay's changes as eBay describes them
B. Feedback, the old way

There seem to be quite a number of eBay specialists who want to share their knowledge and expertise with the masses. The author of this book seems to be another one of them. I must say he has done a splendid job explaining how he founded his own eBay trading assistant (consignment) business in northern NJ, and ran it for a few years before selling it because it didn't quite fit his lifestyle requirements.

A little over a year ago I read and reviewed a similar tome to the instant one. See "The eBay Entrepreneur" (ISBN: 141958328X). If you are interested in buying or starting your own eBay consignment store, then I highly recommend you get the instant book being reviewed along with The eBay Entrepreneur. They cover the same material but give you two different (but similar) perspectives and information. You will hedge your bets in being successful if you use both books to help you put together a business plan and learn the tricks and secrets of the trade. You'll also be able to make reasonable and somewhat accurate financial projections when writing your business plan.

Another book about selling on eBay that I recently read and reviewed was "eBay 101" (ISBN: 0977240630). It's author also fits the category of having been there and done that and then wrote the book to share his knowledge and experiences. I highly recommend you get eBay 101 along with the book being reviewed to do your due diligence in determining if eBay retail is something for you to pursue. All three books point out that online retail sales can require a lot of your time if you are looking to make a lot of money. And that a reasonable living can be made doing it. But don't expect to get rich. 5 stars!

Applying just one of the recommendations in this book can save you many times the purchase price. This book has been revised to reflect the changes that eBay and PayPal made in Spring 2008. The author has been through an eBay consignment business as a partner in a startup and as a sole proprietor of an eBay Drop Off Store. Follow his advice and you can have an eBay business without having to learn his lessons the hard way.
