Life after Ebay, but don't leave them out 5 out of 5 stars.
13 of 15 people found this review helpful.

I purchased this book after being suspended from EBay after being a member since 1999, a powerseller, and with a rating of over 5,000. I learned an expensive lesson and gathered great infomation due to suspension, but especially form this book. I'd recomend every Ebayer and anyone wishing to sell online to purchase this book. As I said I've been an EBayer since 1999, and learned so much from this book. I have been re-instated on EBay and this book and my suspension has given many tips, and information that has also helped changed the way I will things from now on. At 1st I was so angry at EBay that I had inquired about Amazon, Yahoo, Craigs list to name a few of other popular auction sites, I even started the process to open one with Amzazon, and will probaly eventually be listing on this site as well as others. I learned you can't put all you eggs in one basket, always needing a back up plan, and must always follow rules, read and understand policies, and make sure to always be up to date all the time. I opened my own web-site which I probaly would have never done if it wasn't for the suspension and this book. After reading this book I read that many other sellers of EBay have opened their own web-site, but many have also kept a presence with EBay, because they are the largest and most popular online site of its kind, no one even comes close.I'm continuing my reading of this book and have already highly recomended it to others. What would happen if EBay did not exist anymore? EBay fees just went up again, to some as high as 33%. It is and has become extrmely differcult to make money online, so it is important to do your homework to be successful. Before my EBay site went down I had been paying monthly fees of around $700 and at the rate I was listing that amount would have easily gone much higher. Now I have decided that I will have auctions in several areas, and sites, but most of all have my site up and it will soon become profitable. The money I was paying for fees, by splitting it up to mantain a web-site easily makes it work. I have learned all this and much more from this book, every reader will get something from this book, and for many it may change your life for the better. So I highly recomend this book to all and can't wait for an

Good for Internet Beginners 5 out of 5 stars.
8 of 8 people found this review helpful.

This book was easy to read and definitely for beginners. The explanations for e-mail, surfing the web, etc, were simple and thorough. The chapters on designing your web site and selling art on Ebay were extremely good.

I'm not an internet newbie by any means but I've read (and liked) most books by ArtNetwork Press so I wanted to give this one a try. While most of the information was way too basic, I did pick up some good tips here and there. I also found that most of the information provided was very up to date with current trends. There were also a lot of helpful links to examples, information sites, etc.

This is definitely a must read for any artist that is not comfortable with their internet skills but want to tap into that marketing venue.

Editorial Review:

Educate yourself on all aspects of promoting your artwork online. This book includes a thirty-page chapter on the methods Susan F. Greaves, a California artist, has developed to successfully sell her work on eBay and make thousands of dollars per year. You'll also learn about: acquiring a URL, broadcasting for results, designing your homepage, meta tags, guerrilla tactics, search engines, tracking visitors, and more.

Constance Smith began her career as an art rep in California. She has been assisting artists nationwide for over twenty years. She is author of the popular book Art Marketing 101.

Susan F. Greaves is a practicing artist.

What to sell on Ebay and Where to get it. 1 out of 5 stars.
19 of 19 people found this review helpful.

Title is very misleading. Never a mention of particular products or sources to find them. A lot of good marketing info but, no specifics.
Sorry, but I cannot recommend this to anyone.

Great Book 4 out of 5 stars.
7 of 8 people found this review helpful.

I was a power seller on ebay for a full year but then ebay became so commercial that it made it impossible for the little guy to make any kind of living. Now it's like an online retailer mall rather than a place for the home worker to make a living. But if you still want to give ebay a try then I would recommend this book. It's very straight forward on what it takes to find products to sell. Make no mistake, it does NOT tell you where to go to find things to sell, rather it tells you how to come up with your own ideas and how to research them. It teaches you how to find a niche and exploit it.

Editorial Review:

If you want to build a profitable--and consistent--eBay business, you need to start with strategic product sourcing. What to Sell on eBay and Where to Get It reveals the same techniques used by the most successful e-commerce entrepreneurs and by major retail chains to determine what products will sell well and which suppliers will deliver those products for the best price.

Learn to generate product ideas, research your markets, diversify your product line, and build a direct supply of inventory. Using the proven strategies in this book, you’ll be able to find the products that will fuel your business for the long term and skyrocket your sales!

"toes the company's line" and is very out of date 2 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

Unfortunately, just like most books of its kind (histories of specific firms written with full cooperation from the firm involved), "The Perfect Store" is way too obsequious to eBay's official "party line", and doesn't engage in real, hard-hitting, investigative journalism. Moreover, the book is severely out of date -- it tells you nothing about the last several years of eBay, and in a sector that changes as fast as internet commerce, this is a serious problem. The book is well-written and competently organized, but that doesn't make up for the substantial problems with the quality and timeliness of its conents.

Editorial Review:

In this brisk, engaging chronicle of one of the most stunning success stories in American business history, Adam Cohen takes us inside eBay the corporation--where all the important players, including eBay's founder Pierre Omidyar and CEO Meg Whitman, demystify their roles and tell the story straight--as well as inside the community of eBay's passionate users, who buy and sell everything from antique pickle jars and record albums to Ford trucks and $40,000 computer servers. His book reveals the many surprising ways in which eBay's "virtual marketplace" has indelibly changed not only the face of American business but the American cultural landscape.

How to Sell Anything on eBay...and Make a Fortune 3 out of 5 stars.
26 of 36 people found this review helpful.

It wasn't the best out there, but there was some ok tips in there.

If he was making a fortune on eBay, he wouldn't be writing this book he would be out on his yaht somewhere in the French Riviera. That is where I will be when my ebay store finally scores.

My store is almost 2 weeks old. I have made over $300 in sales and by years end hoping to add a few zeros to that number.

The thing is, I LOVE shopping on eBay, I love taking pictures, I love bargain hunting...and ofcourse passing on the savings to my customers and future customers. I have to be honest, some of the stuff I find, I like to much to sell and end up having to go for seconds. Then again, I love shopping, so this was totally up my alley.

I also have been a photo buff since I was 15, so I love taking pictures and editing them...it's like art work to me. I then get to share. I am still working on getting some more photo props and a tripod which will make life easier, and photography of merchandise more fun.

I am at an advantage, though; I live in NY so I have tons of wholesalers and manufacterers in this Metro area. It's just a matter of finding the right ones.

Right now, I am still in research phase. So far, so good.

Don't give up, if you like this sort of thing...it can really work for you. I am living it, right now and enjoying every minute.

You can check out how I added some of the tips to my store, and critics are welcomed.

www.stores.ebay.com/NYC-Trend-Setters-Outlet

Wish me luck and I wish you the same. Don't give up!!
