great Rookie-Guide! 4 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

I checked this out at my library the DAY it was available. It has to be returned tomorrow and I found I didn't want to start eBaying w/o my own copy so I just ordered my own.
The layout is fantastic, reminds me of a good HS textbook. Great photos, footnote tips, glossary. Pretty dummy-friendly!

A Good Little Book 4 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I found this to be a good little book with specific and helpful information for Jewelry sellers. I expect that I will refer back to it from time to time. It's a good value for the money, and an easy read. I have been selling on ebay since July 2005, and recommend this book to other sellers.

Editorial Review:

If you sell things online, you already know how important pictures are. They are the only way your customer has confidence to buy.

Whether you sell at eBay or on your website, better pictures attract more customers! This handbook will teach you how to take great pictures -- without spending a fortune!

This handbook includes highlighted tips on how to save money and take better pictures, as well as over 50 color pictures of equipment, techniques, and examples. Keep this handbook with your camera and refer to it when you need ideas or inspiration on your next pictures.

It is organized so you can quickly find the answers to your questions. You don't have to read the whole book -- you just find what you need and get going. There is a "Troubleshooting Guide" to help you correct problems you are having, a "Final Checklist" to ensure that you are ready to sell, and even a "Glossary" of photography and computer terms.

You don't have to be a professional photographer or a computer geek to create great images for your auctions. Rod writes in non-technical language and teaches you what you need in the section called "Computer jargon you will need." At last, you can take the mystery out of "jaypegs" and pixels!

If you don't have a camera or don't like the one you have, this handbook will teach you what features you need and which ones you don't. The camera the author actually used costs about $200, but he shows you how to be successful, whether your camera cost less or much more.

If you don't already have the equipment you need, Rod will show you how to buy it or make it for almost nothing. For example, did you know that for about $25 you could build your own table-top studio with tools like the professionals use: a seamless background, light booms for front, side, and backlighting, diffusers and reflectors for diffuse and indirect lighting? Add a couple of full-spectrum light bulbs with fixtures for another $20 and you have a great, complete studio for photographing things up to 2 feet in size.

Rod will teach you how to prepare your images for use on eBay so you have eye-catching thumbnails and fast-loading, high quality images. You will finally understand what you need to know about image formats, compression, image quality and more.

Wonderful time saving ledger 5 out of 5 stars.
8 of 8 people found this review helpful.

If you spend any amount of time listing on E-Bay this wonderful spiral-bound ledger is a great time saver. First there is a great fee "cheat sheet". Of course you can look this information up but it sure is nice to have all the information on listing fees, reserve price fees, insertion fees, final value fees and the fee for paypal transaction on one simple to use and understand sheet.
The ledger part also is a great time saver and wonderful way to stay organized. It has a column for everything you need including opening fees/reserve price, listing fees, other fees, final value, final value fees, charged shipping and handling, amount paid, paypal fees, auctual shipping charges, date shipped, tracking number and a lot more.
For anyone that loves selling on EBay but could use a little help staying organized and keeping the books. All in one simple to understand, straight forward, and well planned ledger I highly recommend this.

Editorial Review:

Set up like a traditional ledger, The Seller Ledger allows sellers to keep track of fees, profits, feedback, addresses, tracking information, shipping and handling costs and much more all in one place. Item information about your sales and auctions is only kept on eBay for 90 days so millions of sellers have found the value of keeping a hard copy of their records to minimize mistakes and for running a more efficient business in the world of internet e-commerce. Whether you are a Power Seller or just someone looking to sell enough to clean out your attic, the value of organizing all your eBay information in one place is immeasurable. Specifically designed for the online marketplace, it also contains the most recent fees for both eBay and PayPal on a handy "cheat sheet" while including ways to keep track of Non-Paying bidder alerts, returns, and other eBay procedures. With room for over 750 auctions!

A Great Book for Anyone Who is Raising Money 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I purchased this book for our church group and we are quickly putting it to use. The book is very informative and demystified online fundraising. It is easy to read and follow, with great insight and simple advice. About 20 of us are going to run a holiday fundraiser on eBay using this book as our guide. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is thinking about fundraising.

Excellent Hands On Guide 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

Carefully researched and includes lots of information first-hand from successful sellers and nonprofits. It has a great visual layout too. Lots of illustrations and navigational aids, like Tips, Must Haves, Warnings, etc. It is an invaluable resource to get up & running on eBay in the most effective way.

Using e-Bay in a Slightly Different Way 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 5 people found this review helpful.

The web is really just as a communications medium. But what a medium it is. e-Bay set up all kinds of new records as a way to get money out of the used stuff stored in your back room. In doing so, it has become a phenomonen of its own. One of the many unexpected side effects of e-Bay has been the development of on-line fund raising. Instead of working with the relatively few people in your home town or local community, e-Bay reaches some 160 million people.

The authors of this book are: ==1 -- a power seller on e-Bay, a consumate master at using e-Bay to sell all kinds of products, and

2 -- an ex-e-Bay executive who specialised in setting up new marketing areas.

The concept of raising money on e-Bay is not too different that becoming a e-Bay marketeer. However the wording that you would use in the offering, the ways you would get items to sell, and particularly the impact of having a famous name to assist make fundraising subtly different than what you would normally do. This book then is like a normal book on selling on e-Bay, but 'subtly different.'

The stories of successful campaigns, illustraing what other people have done make the book worth its cost.

Editorial Review:

good explanations of how to sell 4 out of 5 stars.
12 of 13 people found this review helpful.

The eBay business described here is primarily that of selling. You need to realise this. The book only gives cursory mention of bidding on eBay. When you read elsewhere of people making a living on eBay, it is invariably through selling.

Accordingly, the book is laid out in a very focused and visually easy to follow manner. The authors go over the main topics you need to master. Like monitoring an active auction of yours. Then after it (hopefully) successfully closes, how to follow up to ensure payment. By now, the eBay website has scads of details in each area. Can be overwhelming to a new seller. So the authors try to make the information not turn into an overload.

The eBay store is heavily discussed. Sellers of many items often gravitate to running these. Here, the book is a little out of date. It says the store has a monthly fee of $9.95. Well recently, eBay raised this 60%. Crickey! It triggered numerous protests by some of their best sellers. Claiming a de facto monopoly. So the book is well written about HOW to sell on eBay. But keep a healthy cynicism if you read it. Because it does not really discuss WHY or IF you should.

Editorial Review:

  • This combination book/CD-ROM provides everything users need to get an eBay business up and running, including insights into what sells and best practices for a successful and profitable business on the world's largest online marketplace
  • The material covers popular eBay business topics, including using HTML to make items stand out, information on eBay stores and who they work best for, inventory control, and how to find items to keep an eBay business going strong
  • This competitively priced book offers ample coverage, step-by-step instructions, and hundreds of screenshots for intermediate and advanced users
  • The last section of the book walks users through the process of setting up a Web page for an eBay business
  • The CD-ROM offers HTML and business templates to help users streamline business communications and organize inventory

Editorial Review:

Ripped from the headlines of the New York Times, Fake describes Kenneth Walton's innocent beginnings as a lawyer turned online art-trading hobbyist, whose satisfaction in reselling thrift store paintings for a profit soon became a fierce addiction to eBay. In a landscape peopled with colorful eccentrics hoping to score museum-quality paintings at bargain prices, Walton entered into a partnership with con man Ken Fetterman. Over the course of eighteen months they managed to take in hundreds of thousands of dollars by selling forged paintings and bidding on their own auctions to drive up the prices. When their deception was discovered and made international headlines, Walton found himself stalked by reporters and federal agents while Fetterman went on the lam, sparking a nationwide FBI manhunt.

In this sensational story of the seductive power of greed, Kenneth Walton breaks his silence for the first time and details the international scandal that forever changed the way eBay does business.
