It doesn’t attempt to cover everything, but it makes sure to cover the things that you are likely to run into while using Logic to make music, through simple, thorough, and complete explanations. The book also explores why Logic works the way it does, so you’ll not only learn the mechanics of how to do something, but you’ll really understand what you are doing so when you’re ready to explore on your own, you’ll be fully prepared and successful. After learning how to set up Logic, you’ll learn about the Transport and Arrange, how to record and edit audio and MIDI, how to mix down your song, and finally how to save your song and organize your files. The final chapters provide guidance on the more advanced features of Logic that you’ll need as you create more complex compositions and build a more involved project studio. There’s something here for Logic users of all skill levels—newbies will learn Logic front to back, while seasoned users will gain lots of tips and tricks as well as a handy desk reference.

A "must have" book for the experienced Logic 8 user. 5 out of 5 stars.

I placed my order based on the topics covered in the table of contents which was posted at Logic forums. Now having the book in hand only increases my appreciation for the information it contains.

The introduction states that this book fills perceived information voids in the user manual and the two excellent Apple Pro books in response to questions that arise from using Logic in the real world.

What is so impressive is that Jay Asher has carefully targeted the content for experienced users yet the book is written in a clear style that gets right to the point. The following topics were of immediate interest to me. Tutorial #2 addresses how to set up multi-timbral and multi-output software instruments (SI), with #3 continuing on to address converting multi-output SI to audio. Tutorial #19 on gain structure techniques for mixing in the box, which the author describes as being controversial, provides compelling reasons to rethink how to achieve channel levels that will result in more open, better-sounding mixes.

"Going Pro with Logic Pro 8 really does pick up where the other books leave off. In my not-so-humble opinion, Jay Asher's book is a tremendous gift to the community of Logic users.

Although Logic Pro 8 introduces many features which improve the program's accessibility and ease of use, it remains a powerful and complex piece of software.

Often, there are many ways of achieving the same ends, some more complex than others and some which are not obvious. This book contains hundreds of useful tips to help you obtain the results you desire. It describes how to perform standard studio techniques such as drum editing and replacement and parallel compression as well as tips to improve your workflow.
