A great book with many things to talk about 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I bought this when my daughter was 13 months, and after 7 months she still loves this book. There are different people in the bus - adults, kids, elderly, pets, etc., and many things happening on and off the bus.

When my daughter refuses to drink her milk, I'll turn to the page where the baby is happily drinking from the bottle, then she will take her cup and start drinking.

Try Raffi's CD as well. He sang the song to a cheerful tones with kids in the background - my daughter loves it.

The Pages of This Book go Flip and Turn 5 out of 5 stars.

Timing is everything to read this book, which is really a song. Although the notes are at the end to hint how the words should be read, without hearing it sung first and reading it out loud in a dull monotonous fashion a toddler may look at the reader as if to ask "Why bother?" Then I heard it on one of the CDs and now the words flow beautifully and make me read and read, read and read, all through the night.

Illus. in full color. "With a jovial bus driver as host, readers have quite

a ride ahead of them as the bus bounces through what appears to be a French

Super book for the starter 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 9 people found this review helpful.

I have this book only 2 weeks and wonder how perfectly and mature it's structure! It seems small book, you hardly find something in deep.. But... it has amazingly well sequence of learning, relevant tips. CD software is not working in Windows XP, but I extracted audio tracks and play them separately. Audio tracks helps a lot to follow the progress of learning. Respect for authors of this book!

Absolutely Essential for Beginners - Five Stars! ***** 5 out of 5 stars.

I bought this with several other highly recommended books including "Art of Saxophone Playing" by Larry Teal (also great!). I found this beginners book essential once I actually start to play the sax. It is very clear and practical. It has the best photos of finger positions for specific notes... much better than other books.

You will be glad (like me) to have it right there when you first start to blow notes from your sax...

That's the highest recommendation I can give!

Editorial Review:

Easy Piano Classics I and II 5 out of 5 stars.

I love the music and the way the classics are arranged for students who are not very advanced. The selection of pieces are just the best. I can't wait until Classics III is published.

Piano classics book 5 out of 5 stars.

Bought this for my son who enjoys playing classical music. very special book for him and he was quite happy with it.

My favorite piano book! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

When I sit down to play, this is the first book I reach for to find something that suits my mood. The pieces are modified for the less-advanced musician, but "easy" is a relative term. There are pieces easy enough to give the less-advanced player a sense of accomplishment, but there is plenty of challenge for the more-advanced player, too.

Beginner? More like Intermediate 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I'm a beginner, and although I could play some of the songs in this book, it's definitely not that "easy." I would say intermediate is more like it. Although the songs are simplified compared to their originals, a quick glance of the book shows quite a shocking view to me (a beginner).

Of the songs I could play, it was quite exciting and fun. The collection is definitely something to have for a long time in your music library whether it's truly easy or not.

Very Satisfied 5 out of 5 stars.
25 of 25 people found this review helpful.

This was the best music book that I have purchased over the past 25 years as a guitar player. I was hesitant to purchase a music book online and my expectations were low. Suprisingly though, it has provided a great selection of songs sorted chronologically by classical music historical periods together with those musicians with great influence on classical guitar. It was simple enough for a intermediate non-classical guitar player like myself and yet could be used by an advanced beginner or a very experienced guitar player. Today, I have learned 15 songs well and look forward to another 20 from this book in the coming year. Some of my best songs, from all styles of guitar playing, are now from this book. Many finger picking arrangements and styles are poor at best. The arrangements in this book are great. This book is well worth the money.

Editorial Review:

50 pieces from the Renaissance, Baroque, Classical and Romantic eras arranged, edited and fingered by Joseph Harris. Includes notes about the composers and each period, and performance suggestions. All pieces are in standard notation and tablature.

These exercises are invaluable to those looking to develop dexterity on the keyboard, especially in terms of digital independence. They have stood the test of time and are beloved for their simple progression of concepts and interesting patterns.

Educators and students alike will benefit from this collection of exercises. These studies are meant to played slowly with proper technique and then eventually faster and more confidently...thus, the School of Velocity.

Great 4 out of 5 stars.

It is essential for students, Everyone should study Czerny's Studies. It has a good reviewing and the press is really black: you see everynote. The negative point is the book format, it should be spiral formatted, because it is almost impossible to leave this book opened and flat on the piano.

buy it ONLY if you want to be a better pianist 5 out of 5 stars.

Evening in the Palace of Reason -- James R. Gaines 5 out of 5 stars.

I do not understand why Amazon charged me $48.81 for this book
(a 2005 HarperCollins publication) including economy shipping,
when the list price printed on the front flap of the dust jacket
is only $23.95. If I had known what the real retail price was,
I would have purchased the book at a local Barnes & Noble or Borders
bookstore. Somebody at Amazon really goofed on this one!

Editorial Review:

Johann Sebastian Bach created what may be the most celestial and profound body of music in history; Frederick the Great built the colossus we now know as Germany, and along with it a template for modern warfare. Their fleeting encounter in 1757 signals a unique moment in history where belief collided with the cold certainty of reason. Set at the tipping point between the ancient and modern world, Evening in the Palace of Reason captures the tumult of the eighteenth century, the legacy of the Reformation, and the birth of the Enlightenment in this extraordinary tale of two men.

Impressive and Fulfilling 5 out of 5 stars.
20 of 20 people found this review helpful.

This buy was MOST definitly worth the purcahse. I'm obviously a huge fan of Nyman's but i was blown away by the notes he writes on page. THE PIANO sheet music only contains 6 songs, and two of them i have already commited to memory, and its only been 2 weeks. In fact, all of the songs except DEEP SLEEP PLAYING are on the soundtrack. The sheet music seems to have about 10 measures not contained on the soundtrack somewhere, but all of the main themes in the sheet music are on the soundtrack. Learn THE HEART ASKS PLEASURE FIRST, i have never had so many compliments playing song before until i learned this one. It's worth it.

Editorial Review:

Six original compositions for solo piano, by Michael Nyman, from the award winning film by Jane Campion. English composer Michael Nyman has developed into one of the most popular, if not important, composers of film music, and his film score for the 1992 film the Piano is without doubt the most famous and familiar of his compositions. The tone of Campion s film is perfectly emphasised by Nyman s style and though much here is beautiful and rich, it is a haunting and foreboding sound picture that reflects the greys of sea, sky and spirit.

Not for the beginner 3 out of 5 stars.
3 of 5 people found this review helpful.

This book deals with learning how to read music on many levels. It starts with basic concepts and ends with advanced sightreading.

It is not written for casual reading, you will need to spend time with guitar in hand. Bring along a metronome as well.

This book assumes that you have been playing the guitar for a while (2 years) and that you have never given serious thought to learning to read music.

The music presented is mostly classical and not familiar to most players.
It would really benefit from an accompanying CD which it does not have.

Good luck.

Music Reading for Guitar 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This book is very good for a beginner. Just about everything you need to know is in there. The reason I say "Just about everything" is because with the guitar there are many tricks and methods but this book covers what you need.

Editorial Review:

Starting at the elementary level and progressing to advanced techniques, this comprehensive method is like a complete two-year guitar course in book form. It includes over 450 songs and examples, and covers: notes, rhythms, keys, positions, dynamics, syncopation, chord charts, duets, scale forms, phrasing, odd time, and much more. Designed from an MI core curriculum program.

He told me one time: "I'm a poet, not a singer." 5 out of 5 stars.
25 of 25 people found this review helpful.

I became a Dylan fan in the early 60's. While In Junior College and working for the student newspaper, I was assigned the task of interviewing him - without an appointment - when he came to perform in the town where that JC was. I grabbed a tape recorder, sat with some friends to create a short list of questions we thought would be fun for him to respond to - and on the assigned evening, I set out to interview him.

I made it to the security gate where I was summarily turned away. Thinking myself clever, I argued, joked and tried to talk my way in - and failed. So, I sat outside (I had no ticket to the show itself) until it was over - then, some three hours after I first arrived, I recognized Dylan, surrounded by a small army of devotees and sycophants, coming out of the stage door. Bravely, I approached him - tape recorder turned on and microphone in hand - trying to remember just one of the many clever questions my friends and I had concocted. All I could get to come out was, "Hi! I'm from the local J.C. Would you please say something about yourself?" He actually stopped, looked at me (I think) through VERY dark glasses and said, clear as a bell, "I'm a poet - not a singer." I believe this volume demonstrates that rather nicely.

On first hearing me play a Dylan album, my dad, who had never - so far as I know - spent one day on a farm, said "That sounds like a lamb with his gonads caught in a barbed wire fence." Maybe he was right. The beauty of this volume is that it is unfettered with music - either written or sung. Just as the title says, it is "Lyrics".... words .... poems..... stories told in certain rhythm and meter. As such, they read purely - without the attempt to convey them as 'song' or himself as a 'singer.' I read the book from cover to cover and actually use it as a lyric book to create my own versions of the lyrical tales he told that are recorded here.

Some are simple: some complex: some perhaps deliberately confusing, inconsistent and mind-twisting. Others are basic - a few even 'sweet' and naively young. Some angry, some narrative, more than a few visionary. But whatever else they are or are not, they are poems - each and every one of them - and, as such, I believe they stand on their own ... without the music he gave them - mostly, as I understand it, after the fact.

Read this way, as a poetic autobiography, I think those interested - or even enamored- with Bob Dylan and his work, will find this volume to be a real treasure trove of pure expressiveness. It has already achieved a special place - in my library, in front of me while I have a guitar in hand - or simply in my lap, as I read and try to appreciate the purist Dylan we have to remember the times, and perhaps ourselves, with.

Editorial Review:

Dylan is a musical and political icon. From his early days of protest songs, like Blowing in the Wind, The Times They Are A Changing - to his revolutionary Subterranean Homesick Blues, and Like a Rolling Stone, the country Lay Lady Lay, the religious Slow Train Coming, the confessional Idiot Wind, his songs have spoken to generations, had a huge influence on such artists as John Lennon, Lou Reed, Mark Knopfler and been regarded by writers and critics such as Andrew Motion and Craig Raine as a poet who stands alongside such figures as Ginsberg and Walt Whitman.
