All Around Good Walkthrough 5 out of 5 stars.
11 of 14 people found this review helpful.

First, let me state that this review should be considered only by those who play games for FUN.. This means, NOT those who play first person shooters online for 16 hours at a time, but those who play video games as a hobby, not a lifestyle; i.e. a few hours a week. Second, don't even consider this book if you're looking for help on the Ocarina of Time, because it won't help. Someone stated previously that it looks like a review out of a video game magazine, and their absolutely right. I've used an Ocarina book I got right here from Amazon for that game, and it was perfect..

On to the review: The game is GREAT, and the book certainly compliments that. I know the first thing potential buyers are looking for is PROBLEMS, so instead of pretending there aren't any, I'll hit those first.

The main problem here (as previously mentioned) is the organization of the book, and it all comes down to your playing style.. If you want to play the game yourself and only have the book as a reference for when you get stuck or for finding little extras, than it's perfect. However, if you want to have everything spelled out for you and not play the game at all without first consulting the book, than this probably isn't the right one for you.. It walks you through the quests for the first 3/4 of the book, and has little footnotes at the bottom of each page, referring you to the side-quests which are detailed towards the end of the book..

If you've played the game, then you know that it's a HUGE ocean, broken up into 49 different squares, with 49 different islands, and once you've passed a few preliminary tasks, the entire world is open to you to explore on your own.. In my experience with the game, this book worked PERFECTLY, because the best part was sailing around the map and stumbling upon new islands and landmarks on your own, without someone or something telling you where to go.. The book complimented this, because it has an entire section showing what you can do on each island, and how far into the game you need to be in order to accomplish each task. This is separate from the walkthrough, which details the actual quests, and not the hidden items and extra goodies available on each island. Again, the organization of the book may be a problem for some, but it will be perfect for others..

Otherwise, the problems are VERY minimal.. There are a few instances where the book will tell you something is worth 100 rupees (dollars) when in fact it's worth 200, or vice versa, but these are few and far between.. I'm 4/5 of the way through the game and I could count those mistakes on less than one hand..

The pictures are clear and crisp, and plenty large enough to see if you have the ability of sight, and the walkthrough itself is well written, inclusive, and comprehensive. It's gotten me through all of those spots where your just scratching your head wondering what to do next, but at the same time the game is simple enough that you should be able to get through the majority of it without help.. Besides, exploring the vast world they created is the best part of the game!

Dear Zelda fans& lovers,
This book is sure to help you on the 2nd level to getting the Goron Ruby.Soon I have this book to help me.
P.S. This guide is the best!

Lifesaver 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

This book takes you step by step and the descriptions are clear. Although it may take a while to acutally complete the game while trying to read a player's guide at the same time, it does not take away from the excitement.

And a big plus would be that this guide doesn't take away from the plot. BEWARE those that do!

A pretty good guide 4 out of 5 stars.

This is a great companion to the game. It is descriptive and offers a number of strategies for certain situations. I noticed a couple of flaws in it, but nothing major. For example, in the back where it describes where to find all the gold skultulas, it usually has what you need to get it, what dungeon or town it is in, and where it is in the dungeon or town. However, one of them had the dungeons in one column, but what you need to use to get it in two coulmns, so I had no idea where to find it, even after searching. I think there is another flaw, but that is about it. They are very minor and don't take away the fact that this is a great guide!

Great Guide 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I've liked Nintendo guides because they seem to have good insight and great mapmakers. The downside is they sometimes rely a little too heavy on the maps. Yet overall a great guide.

Pros
+Very colorful
+Great Maps
+No spoilers
+Concise the dungeon walkthrough, it is easy to follow you just navigate from number to number on the map and then read the paragraph it correlates to.
+Tells you all the movements for Link
+List all the items and which mask's can use them
+Gives you hints on how to survive
+Good fairy guide with screenshots
+Side quests are incorporated right into the walkthrough.
+Bomber notebook guide (includes a graph of the times available, list of the requirements and rewards, and a walkthrough with screenshots)
+Masks Guide (Tells who to get it from and were they are, also a walkthrough with screenshots)
+Pieces of Heart Guide (A screen shot and paragraph on how to get it)
+Bottles and Upgrade Guide (Paragraph with screenshots on how to get the bottles and upgrades)
+Majora's Mysteries, which is a section of fun things to do

Cons
-Choppy walkthrough, it just highlights the key and difficult points in the game and expects you to get there on your own
-Expects you to use the map to navigate from point to point
-The dungeon walkthrough can seem too concise in a little under five instances, which aren't difficult to figure out, i.e. you'll need a key to enter and you'll need to find it on your own
-No Bestiary
-A little thin

Overall its a great guide. I would definitively pick this guide up if you buy The Legend of Zelda Collectors Edition or decide to go retro and pick up and N64 and LOZ:MM.

this guide has everything you need in it to complete the game fully exept that it has one mistake in it. in the list of all the heart pieces there is one listed twice and one missing. heart piece 43 should be at rock spire island and to get it you need to defeat the boats in the area and haul up the treasure they leave. one of them is a heart piece.

Where's the beef? .... 3 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

This guide is not super in-depth and so it should be concidered more a collectible than a guide ...

First off, it is way too compressed to cover the four games (I, II, Ocarina & Majora) as deep as I believe it should have. In my opinion this guide should be twice as thick as it is (especially concidering it's selling price). It honestly seems like a bit of a rush job. There are a number of small errors throughout the guide and quite a few omissions of pertinent info. There should have been a competent editor on hand to put in a good final inspection before release.
The overworld maps are less than stellar and Zelda artwork/illustrations are minimal. This guide gives you the basic meat and potatoes (for the most part) and leaves everything else to speculation and exploration on your own.

If you are looking for a highly indepth guidebook this is not it ... I suppose some people like info kept to a minimum, but I would have preferred a book worthy of being concidered "collectible". I honestly believe the creators of this guide had zero passion for the project, or were put in a stranglehold by the upper-crust, because this guide could have been so much richer in content ... you'd think with the fact these games have played such a large part in the success of Nintendo that they would have at least invested a little more in it.

3 stars because it does help and also because I'm feeling generous today ;)

Steb-by-Step Info Makes This Game Wonderful 5 out of 5 stars.
23 of 23 people found this review helpful.

I never played the original game for the Super Nintendo but, I picked up this game very quickly. I beat this game once without the guide and after I looked in the guide at a store I decided it was worth it for all the extra's I may have missed. With the help from this guides step-by-step fashion I beat this game a second time with a hundred percent completion. It was the greatest feelling ever to know that you had all of the items and heart pieces that the original game designers had put in there, hoping a few selected people would find all of them. This guide also has the multiplayer Four Swords guide but, I haven't looked at that yet. This guide is a worthwhile investment for any Zelda fan. It is a huge commitment to beat a very long game, such as this one, because it really tests your patience level. Patience is required just to beat it without one hundred percent, this guide is for those perfectionists who can't leave a game unbeaten. Bryan Stratton did a very good job on this guide. Best guide I have ever played from and believe me I have played among many confusing guides and this one was well laid out compared to some.

Okay... 3 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

You could use this guide and get through the game, but I wouldn't pay more than $10.00 to get it. This book is FULL of typos. The enemy description page is loaded with them. The maps are also confusing. If you can figure out your way from the maps, and you can read them and stuff, I suppose it's worth the money. I would highly suggest looking at it before spending any money on it however.

Best Guide Ever 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 6 people found this review helpful.

This guide rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You cant play the game without it. I couldnt beat the game but I beat it, with this guides help, in 1 day. If you dont like this guide I dont like you.

THE WORST GUIDE EVER! 1 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I hated this guide. It is misleading, the maps stink even though the 3-D looks cool. I had to buy another guide. The only good part about this guide was the appendixes. But this guide frustrated and confused me so much I thought this game was impossible to beat! DO NOT BUY THIS GUIDE!

Could be WAY better 2 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I'll list the pros and cons of this book one after the other; hopefully it's not too confusing...

Pros:

A great enemy list!

Okay boss strategies

Only guide so far to use coordinates (I find that fact surprising; the Zelda games are THE games to use coordinates with!)

Has an okay section about passwords

Nice cartoons

Cons:

Maps are TINY, boundaries not well marked, does not show inside of houses

Screenshots are small and blurry

Walkthrough is confusing; it might say something like, "In the next room, push the block and open the chest. In the next room, use the key," and it doesn't give details on WHICH keyhole to use the key on, and WHICH room is the "next" one. The could have used coordinates to their advantage way better than they did

The whole thing is somewhat monotonous

Cartoons, while cool, are VERY distracting. They are just plopped down anywhere; you might be in a section when you're encountering Zoras, and right there is a picture of a Goron!

Some AWFUL typos; it got me all confused about the Harp of Ages. It said that the Tune Of Currents made a temporrary Time Portal, that the Tune of Ages activated Time Portals, and that the Tune of Echoes gave you tital freedom to travel in time. Then it said that you wouldn't get the ToC until later on in the game. The real scoop on the Harp is this: The Tune of Echoes (the frist tune you get) activates Time Portals; the Tune of Currents (the second tune you get) lets you move from the past to the present (it does create a temporary Time Portal, but that's not it's main purpose) and the Tune of Ages lets you go from Past to Present and Present to Past. Those typos really got me mixed up.

Overall, this guide seemed like it was carelessely slapped together, and though it has some stuff you won't find in the Versus Guide, it has a lot more stuff that Versus does WAY better in.

Editorial Review:

Tips for Controlling Chaos using the Rod of Seasons
Time Travel tactics using the Harp of Ages
How to use the Innovative Link System

Editorial Review:

The Zelda games from Nintendo comprise one of the best and most popular series of video games ever produced--and with good reason. Each title is more impressive than the last, with a larger game world, a richer story, and even more challenging puzzles. The latest entry, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, is by far the biggest and best of the bunch--but it's also the toughest, which is why you'll need a hand from BradyGames' excellent strategy guide. With a slick layout and tons of useful information, BradyGames' guide to Zelda is basically your one-stop shop for the prospective adventurer. Starting out with a quick description of the major characters, the book goes on to provide in-depth info on the gameplay basics, such as how to use the controls effectively and how to make the best use of Link's Ocarina. Additionally, the book describes each of the objects and weapons you'll come across in the game. The rest of this guide walks you through every quest, with screen shots and maps to help you get Link through in one piece. Over the course of your journey, you can also turn to the guide to find all of the game's secrets and to pick up helpful hints for each of the mini-games. --Michael Ryan
