Be careful, the revs & book info for all 3 vols are mixed up 3 out of 5 stars.
18 of 19 people found this review helpful.

I purchased this book looking for the stories by King and McCaffrey, only to find out that they are in a different volume. The reviews and book info are the same for all three volumes, so I suppose this review will also be listed on all three. Anyway, this is a review for LEGENDS 3!

There are four stories in Legends 3:

New Spring, by Robert Jordan, a Wheel of Time story.

Dragonfly, by Ursula K. Le Guin, an Earthsea story.

The Burning Man, by Tad Williams, a Memory, Sorrow and Thorn story.

The Sea and Little Fishes, by Terry Pratchett, a Discworld story.

This is a case where they saved the best for last :) Each story gets progressively better. I thought I would go ahead and read this book rather than return it since I am always on the lookout for new (to me) fantasy writers. After all the hype about Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series, I must say I was sorely dissappointed. The story was fairly interesting, and maybe the books are better than this short story, but I can't say I'm in much of a hurry to buy them now. However, I think maybe my daughter might like the children's versions.

Dragonfly was better, and the ending was the best part of all. If this was the beginning of the series, I'd be much more likely to want to buy the books, but from what I can figure out, this happens at the end of the series. Will we ever find out what happens next? I kinda doubt it. There hasn't been a new book in this series for a long time. But, I might eventually check this series out.

The Burning Man was pretty cool. It seemed to kinda stand alone though. Can't really imagine what the series is like.

The Sea and Little Fishes was the coolest. The whole Discworld thing, the world being flat and flying thru space on the backs of four elephants riding on a giant turtle was a little weird, but that hardly had anything at all to do with the story. It was about witches, not so much about magic as how they interacted with one another and with the mortals all around them. I think I'd like to read more of these.

I hope you find this helpful and don't make the same mistake that I did, thinking all of these stories are in one book, because they are actually in three. If you did find it helpful, please vote that you did. Thanks!

Editorial Review:

The great anthology of short novels by the masters of modern fantasy.

Robert Jordan relates crucial events in the years leading up to The Wheel of Time in "New Spring."

Ursula K. Le Guin adds a sequel to her famous books of Earthsea, portraying a woman who wants to learn magic, in "Dragonfly."

Tad Williams tells a dark and enthralling story of a haunted castle in the age before Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn, in "The Burning Man."

Terry Pratchett relates an amusing incident in Discworld, of a magical contest and the witch Granny Weatherwax, in "The Sea and Little Fishes."

WARNING 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

The Eye of the World (The Wheel of Time, Book 1) is the original first book in the Wheel Of Time series. It is an excellent book, and I would recommend it to anyone interested in an enormous fantasy series.

This book is merely the FIRST HALF of The Eye of the World (The Wheel of Time, Book 1), if you already own The Eye of the World (The Wheel of Time, Book 1) DO NOT buy this book. Why it was ever released is a mystery to me, someone is probably trying to make more money from the series.

If you're a fan of the series, please use the above link to get to the REAL book, ignore this one.

For Rand al’Thor and his pals, life in the sleepy village of Emond’s Field has been pretty dull. Until the appearance on festival night of Moiraine, a mysterious woman who claims to be an Aes Sdeai—a magician who can wield the One Power. Soon after, the village is attacked by Trollocs—a savage tribe of half-men half-beasts. Rand’s father is nearly killed. But for Rand, the news gets worse. It was not the village the Trollocs were after, Moiraine tells him. It was you, Rand.

Rand and his friends are forced to flee. But his escape will bring him face to face with the Dark One...the most powerful force of evil in the universe.

A glimpse into history 4 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

The struggles and hardships of the revolutionary period and beyond are masterfully captured between robert jordans bookcovers.A story of a family that stems with importance but not to much to be mentioned in our histroy books, a stragegy thats as complicated to preform, but done so as not to quell the importance of the book.A book so flowing with intrigue and danger, the only dissapointment that it had was that it had to end, or until the sequel arrives which will be waited for inpatiently.

The best of the trilogy 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

In the Fallon Legacy, the story concentrates mostly on James Fallon, Robert Fallon's long lost son. The story takes you through James' adventures in the Texas frontier. Amidst much excitment and adventure, Robert Jordan is able to provide the reader with an extraordinary amount of history and culture from the Mexico/Texas region. The characters in this book are awesome. Some of the most loveable and hateable people I have ever read about. The Fourrier family continues to haunt the Fallons all the way up to the last chapter of the trilogy, but the Fallons are once again able to persevere, although with some heart-wrenching losses.
.

While the adventure and romance of this novel were very entertaining and fun to read, the best thing about the book, and indeed the whole trilogy, is the fresh perspective that it provides on the history and the culture of America 200 years ago. Books like this help to preserve our heritage.

Editorial Review:

The breathtaking conclusion to Jordan's acclaimed historical trilogy--following "Fallon Blood" and "Fallon Pride"--chronicles the Fallon family's fortunes as they travel westward, telling the tale of a father and son who never meet--but share a destiny.

Editorial Review:

Three classic Conan novels from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Wheel of Time Before Robert Jordan conquered the bestseller lists with the Wheel of Time, he revived the legendary fantasy hero Conan the Cimmerian. These widely acclaimed adventures introduced the world-famous barbarian to a whole new generation of enthusiastic readers. Here are three powerful sagas, featuring all the storytelling magic and epic splendor that have made Robert Jordan one of the most beloved fantasy authors in history.

Conan the Invincible: Less than nineteen years old and new to the snares and enticements of civilization, the young Conan must join forces with a dangerously seductive female bandit to storm the palace of Amanar, a supremely evil necromancer, and confront the dreaded Eater of Souls.

Conan the Defender: As revolution brews in the shadowy streets of Belverus, Conan braves the traps and treacheries of the Royal Palace of the Dragon. Pursued by the luscious and shameless Sularia, the mighty warrior challenges a magic-spawned menace that cannot die: the invincible Simulacrum of Albanus.

Conan the Unconquered: Conan defies the sorcerous power of the Cult of Doom for the sake of a beautiful young woman known only as Yasbet. From the glory of fabled Aghrapur to the demon-haunted wastes of the Blasted Lands, Conan proves himself the greatest hero of a bygone era of high adventure.

Editorial Review:

Robert Jordan's epic fantasy saga The Wheel of Time is now firmly established as a classic of the genre and a world-wide bestseller. Now the series continues with the eagerly-awaited tenth volume . Rand al'Thor, the Dragon Reborn, must fight on against the Dark One in a stuggle that has drawn an entire world into its vortex - claiming the souls of friends and enemies alike. He has cleansed the taint of madness from the male half of the True Source, so may now draw on its power as a weapon of awesome potential. This could tip the balance in a perilous battle against evil as Rand must gamble with himself at stake. He cannot be sure which of his allies are really enemies - even among lifelong companions.

Relax People! 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 10 people found this review helpful.

I'm getting tired of hearing everyone whine and complain about this series. Put simply the Wheel of Time books are amazing. If you have the time and are interested in reading them, you should.

That said, this book is the first half of the second novel. While some people may see this as a huge corrupt money-making scheme, this is actually a good idea. Many people turn away in horror when they see a novel that is longer than a couple hundred pages. Printing the books like this makes it easier for the story to spread and gain popularity because more people will be willing to read it. And everyone who read the second novel already and was foolish enough to buy this because they got excited when they saw another Wheel of Time product, stop whining, it was your own fault.

I understand why people are frustrated that RJ has not yet completed the series, however, everyone just has to relax. RJ has written 11 novels of this series already as well as a prequel. Hopefully he will finish the series sometime but everyone should stop complaining and realize that RJ has already given us a great gift and he'll finish it when he has nothing left to say. Be thankful for the long novels you've gotten already. I've been happy with every one.

Thank you,
Maxximus

Editorial Review:

This magical tale "will not be easy to put down," raved Booklist. "The Great Hunt suggests that [The Wheel of Time] will be the definitive exploration of Tolkien's territory for many years to come. Jordan can spin as rich a world and as event-filled a tale as the master."

Since they were boys, Rand and his friends have heard the tales of the Great Hunt of the Horn. Fabulous tales of hunters and of a legendary horn that can raise the dead heroes of the ages.

But no sooner is the horn found then it is stolen.

And Rand begins a quest to find the horn. It's "a grippping story," according to VOYA. "Recommended."

Howard would be proud! 5 out of 5 stars.

Well, if you don't already know who Robert Jordan is please ask whoever it is that has kept you locked in that closet to buy you the entire Wheel of Time series--and this book of course--before inserting you back into that dark, miserable vault. Then read them all voraciously. You will not be disappointed, with this or any of the other many books Mr. Jordan has written. This book in particular is probably the best Conan novel I have read in a great many moons. Why you ask? Well, the plotting is crisp and fast moving, the prose and dialogue effectively create action in the reader's mind, and as all of us RJ sycophants have come to expect, the characterizations are well done and extremely believable. A great book.

Hate detest loath abhor despise, you get my drift yet ? 1 out of 5 stars.
1 of 3 people found this review helpful.

If I say it was a terrible abomination good for a feebleminded dolt it will be the nicest thing i'll ever even utter about this insufferable atrocity.

It is a disgrace to RJ legacy I couldn't finish this thing it was so absurd. the pages are not worthy to wipe the bottom of a swampy garbage dump / nuclear waste plant!

I love most of RJ's books but this excuse for one had the most dumb insufferable woman crazy self obsessed character ever. The other character is a supposable self-sufficient self reliable high standard not man crazy woman who chases the main character

if that dose not deter you from reading this thing maybe this will it had a really predictable unimaginative plot that I've ever seen since -ever!!

One reviewer said its for the younger crowd I beg to differ I really don't think its for a young crowed only an immature crowd. As you have no doubt realized if I could give it ZERO STARS I WOULD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
