I really enjoyed this series. It's light SF, and I would recommend it to fans of early McCaffrey.

This volume, however, apparently underwent a major revision at the last moment with two cloudships being edited out, which left some continuity problems between it and Maia's Veil. If you plan to read Orion's Dagger, don't read the preview chapter in Maia's Veil.

Read 1, you'll want to read the rest. Great Sci-fi series. The main character is of Gypsy descent, it was a real eye opener seeing life & space from a Gypsy point of view.

Siduri's Net (The Cloudships of Orion, Book #1) reminded me of C. J. Cherry's "Finity's End" in terms of family/ship relationships with a whole new industry thrown in - starfield mining. The perspective, however, is totally different for North American readers: Slavs, Czechs, Greeks, Gypsies (Roms), Russkis- trying to work together AND trying to maintain their own cultures. Then we learn the "science" of harvesting starfields and "cloudship sailing". Somehow, I kept waiting for the action; about half-way through I realized it wasn't the action that mattered but the people. This book finishes its storyline satisfactorily, leaves you wanting more cloudship adventures without leaving any obvious loose ends.

Highly underestimated excellent sci-fi series! 4 out of 5 stars.

Part 2 of 'the cloudship' series is, like all three of them are, an excellent book. McAllister makes her main character explore the depth of his emotions, his ambitions, his loyalties. She does so in a very, very appealing way that makes this whole series not only something completely different (the idea of mining space gallees in rich resourced nebula's is very original), it also makes this series a very human endeavour.
