One of my favorite Stargate SG-1 books. 4 out of 5 stars.

When I first found out that there were going to be books based on the series Stargate SG-1, I purchased this book immediately. The books are just as interesting and entertaining as the series. I read this book for the first time and I enjoyed it right away. I also enjoyed the series very much. I think that this book is very suspenseful, exciting, entertaining, interesting and worth reading. I think that all fans of the series Stargate SG-1 will enjoy reading this book as I did.

quite ok - if you like that sort of thing.. 3 out of 5 stars.

McConnell's first was a novelization of the pilot episode. Now, I should admit my bias right away: I'm not a fan of novelizations in general unless they actually add to the story, and this one didn't. It just inserted the thoughts of the various characters through the episode(s), and hey -- we can do that ;) However, I think the author stayed mostly true to the characters, and it's fun to visualize the episode while you're reading. Probably the best of the bunch.

Editorial Review:

Colonel Jack O'Neill lives in retirement, one year after his interplanetary expedition to Abydos. But when a hostile force of aliens resembling the late Ra and his Chulakins invades Earth through the Stargate and kidnaps a female officer, O'Neill is called back to duty to lead a platoon back through the Stargate and eliminate this new threat. Back in Abydos, O'Neill is reunited with Egyptologist Daniel Jackson to help the team determine from which world through the Stargate this new danger originated from.

Not as good as I'd hoped, or was led to believe by reviews 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

It's just your average piece of mind candy fluff novel. Nothing great about and it is actually disappointing to a QL faithful like myself.
Okay, I haven't finished it yet. I'm only halfway through but already there are mistakes and it makes me wonder if the author watched the show or not.
So far no mention of Donna at all. Also, the book says that Al's girlfriend, Tina, has the 2nd highest IQ in the place and she keeps up Ziggy's maintenance. Well, at the end of the show Sam put Beth and Al back together which would make Tina nonexistant (most likely) on the project.
Also, the author bases much of the 'suspense' on fixing whatever it is Sam must fix or he will be stuck. The TV show has pointed out on a few occasions that success has no bearing on a leap. Sam will leap no matter what, and we all know that technically Sam controls the leaps. There are other mistakes that I won't go into, but I have to say that as an intense lover of QL, Sam Becket, Al, et. al. I was seriously missing the show and I've seen the repeats countless times and I was searching for something new. I took a leap of faith and bought 5 of these QL books and now I'm thinking I should have just kept searching for something else.
I could have written it better.

Editorial Review:

Convinced that a human can time travel within his own lifetime, Dr. Sam Beckett steps into his Quantum Leap accelerator and is transported into someone else's life. TV tie-in.

I Loved It 4 out of 5 stars.
12 of 12 people found this review helpful.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading "Book of the Dead." Wes has always been one of my favorite characters. The story gives us some insight into Wes's schoolboy days at the "Watcher's Academy."

The story was very interesting and I loved the concept. The pace was a little slow at the beginning, but it was still very enjoyable and interesting.

All of the central characters are very well written. Connor is not in the story because he is out of town for a few days. By sending him out of town, the author didn't have to deal with the Connor/Cordy relationship which was a wise decision.

I recommend this book to anyone who loves the TV show "Angel" and especially to anyone who loves Wesley.

Editorial Review:

Wes has been a compulsive reader since childhood. It's an addiction like any other -- he craves books, loves them, can't live without them. So when his former colleague Adrian O'Flaherty comes to town and invites Wes along to a highly secret auction of rare occult books, Wes can't say no. What Wes doesn't know is that Adrian is looking for more than dusty old tomes at the auction. He's out for revenge. Before the Watchers Council was destroyed, a man named Rutherford Circe stole a number of rare books from the council's libraries -- and killed the librarian, Adrian's father, in the process. At the auction, Wes buys a box of old books that holds one of the most famous books of magick ever collected. The Red Compendium is known for totally absorbing it readers -- and Wes, always a sucker for compelling literature, couldn't put its down if he wanted to.

Excellent read 4 out of 5 stars.

I was *very* hopeful when I picked up this book that it would do the TV show justice. This book not only does that, but does an excellent job of showing how the series could be, instead of regaling the flashbacks to mere minutes within the story. Here, as in the other Highlander novels, the flashback *is* the story, providing no small enjoyment and fulfillment to the fan crying out, "More history on Duncan MacLeod, please!"

Having just watched the movie version of "Finale", the episode which inspired this story, I was really psyched and ready for an explanation on how in the world MacLeod found himself in Algiers in 1653. It's not necessary to have seen or remember the episode to enjoy the whole story, as the flashback is deftly woven into the story itself. The reader is grabbed into the story and taken along for a really good ride. I really think this is an excellent read

However, I do have a quibble about the ending, and until I started typing this, I didn't realize it, as I'd enjoyed the story so much.

Editorial Review:

Duncan MacLeod, the Highlander, has tried to turn his back on the traditions of Immortals. But the strong pull of the Gathering is drawing him back. Then someone sends MacLeod an ancient Arabian scimitar. His friend Joe Dawson, a member of a secret group of mortals--the Watchers, who have observed Immortals throughout history--decides to find out why.

Wonderful Novel 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

An absolutly great Buffy novel. Buffy does not play a part in it (her lines could probably fit on one page), Willow and Spike are what it's all about.
Some of the best parts were the flashbacks to Spike's past. It answered alot of questions an how he dealt with his "friends" who ridiculed and humiliated him and what happened to Cecily. Spike is one of my favorit characters on the show and I love reading about his past.
The whole idea of Addams and his Explorers Club is also very interesting.
All in all a very good book, highly entertaining!

Curtain Call

Willow Rosenberg is disappointed when her best friend Buffy, aka the Chosen One, decides to drop drama class in order to concentrate on her Slaying. Willow decides to stick with the class on her own, however, and this once-shy wallflower is pleased to find herself way bitten with the acting bug.

It's no surprise to Buffy and the Scoobs, then, when Willow decides to pitch in with the drama club's latest production. Of course, Sunnydale being Hellmouth Central, Willow soon discovers a link between drama and magick; in fact, many ancient Greek performances were actually invocations to the Gods. Spike, who in his pre-vamp days had been a great patron of the arts, confirms this fact. He also takes an unusual level of interest in Willow's extracurricular activities. When strange paranormal occurrences -- and the appearance of a ghost or two -- threaten Willow's safety, the witch starts to wonder if it isn't time to exit, stage left....

Lovely light-hearted fantasy 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This is a wonderful start to a trilogy that turns out to be something very different. Jazen is your everyday John Doe, he works the forge, has no prospects for the future, and thinks he's going insane because of the imps he see's in the fire. But when a small group of travelling exorcists come alone, he decides to follow them, and it changes his life. He is taken to the capital city of Mirlacca, where he learns how to do basic fire magic, and ends up saving the city from a demon. The Fountains of Mirlacca gives you a steady background from which you can experiance the next two WONDERFUL books in this series.

Definitely not a standalone book 3 out of 5 stars.

This book is well-written, and the story carries the reader along. However, the book should not be bought or sold alone, it's part of a trilogy. I've only read the first book, and I was left feeling quite unsatisfied at the conclusion. While I am glad that there are later volumes in this trilogy, I do wish that the author had written a more satisfying ending to the first book. If the book had had a good conclusion, I would have rated it at four or five stars.

Editorial Review:

When his pyrokinetic powers threaten to name him a devil among his people, Jazen enlists the help of visiting sorceress Vettazen and follows her to the Exorcist School in Mirlacca where he is forced to confront the truth behind his ability.

All right. 3 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

It was a good story, but it also had a lot of conflicts with the show. For instance, Al's 5th wife was named Maxine, not Rita (as is mentioned in the book). And it's kind of obvious in the show that he isn't retired. Oh, and Sam's 1st Leap wasn't in 1991, it was '95. Other than that, it was a pretty good book.

Loved it!!!! 5 out of 5 stars.

A very well written story. I loved it! It was hard to put it down once I started reading it.

A good read 4 out of 5 stars.

McConnell definitely has a firm grasp of both Sam and Al in her series of QL novels. In this story, she gets to play around somewat with the continuity of the hisotry of our two main characters, something the producers swore they would not do too often and then beat the viewer over the head with in later episodes to keep interest going. But in her work, McConnell does it fairly well, introducing us to a young Al that Sam meets as he is currently inhabiting another body. The story itself is good, if a bit stretched out. It would have made for a good episode of the series, but as a novel is runs a bit too long.

Editorial Review:

An all-new, original Quantum Leap novel--exciting adventure based on the hit TV show. Dr. Samuel Beckett is a time traveler with a twist: his Quantum Leap accelerator transports him to another person's life. Sam is in for a big surprise, however, when he lands in a 1990s men's encounter group--and meets a younger, soul-searching version of Al.

Should Have Been an Episode 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This is one of McConnell's stronger entries in the series and touches on points that would have worked well in an episode of Quantum Leap. Child Abuse, tinkering with known history and Sam's own discomfort at being in the body of a female are all familiar themes seen in Quantum Leap. Some reviewers call this all gimmicky, but I think the gimmick, if there is one, works. Definitely a must read, must have if you collect the series.

Can Sam as a young child stop the constuction of THE WALL 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Ashley McConnell has once again out done herself. The Wall is a highly charged book. Sam leaps into a 6 year old child called Missy Robicheaux. The date is 1961, and the location is Germany. He finds himselve in a family of fear. The mother is a drunk and beats her children, the father is in the service and during the pre war is away, while the older brother has had enought of it all and if given the possiblity, would leave his mother to over dose. At the project Beeks has her hands full. A young terrified Missy is stuck in a mans body and waiting to be punished for being away from home. With pressure from higher up, Al is trying to push Sam into a leap solution which to Sam doesn't feel right. Seen as young and naughty, Sam must save the family, himselve and if possible Germany. And just when everything is drawing to a close, Sam leaps once again into Missy's life as an adult. The book is excellent and one which I have read again and again. It deals indepth with the project side of the leaps and as well as what happens mentally to the leapee during and after the leap. The topic of the Wall, is still for some a hard one to comprehend, and this book gives a small in sght into what it would have been like for the people living in this time. I highly recomment this book to any Quantum Leap fan or any one else wanting to read a good Book.

Editorial Review:

After leaping into the life of Missy, a six-year-old living in 1961 Berlin, Dr. Sam Beckett must watch helplessly as the Berlin Wall is erected but becomes empowered when he leaps into the body of the adult Missy.
