Excellent Adaptation 3 out of 5 stars.

Very much a blow by blow of the TV series, this book does add 'some' background to the characters and the story of Robotech. Worth buying.

Good background 4 out of 5 stars.

Pretty much word for word what was shown in the TV series, with just a little more background description and events to answer some old questions. Worth getting.

Robotech ROCKS!!!! 5 out of 5 stars.

For romantic science fiction lovers, this cuts the cake. Not only is this the greatest action story ever written but it is the ultimate clash between the human race and any alien beings. I'd give this 10 thumbs up - if I had 10 thumbs!

Tv Show in your hands! 5 out of 5 stars.

It follows the show almost to a T! I had to watch my DVD's again just to make sure everything was correct! If you loved the show, this is alot more detailed and gives you more insight to Gloval's thoughts as well was the numberous members of the SDF-1's crew!

Editorial Review:

Robotech -- the saga continues! In three separate novels -- "Battlehymn," "Force of Arms" and "Doomsday" -- collected in one volume for the first time, readers can follow the struggles and triumphs of the Robotech Defense Force, led by the brilliant but unorthodox Captain Gloval, as they fight against the alien Zentraedi, then fight alongside their former enemies for mutual assured survival!

Editorial Review:

A Warp In The Space-Time Continuum...

The SDF-3 has remanifested from spacefold, but no one aboard has the faintest idea where they are. The ship appears to be grounded in some glowing fog, ensnared by light itself. Lang and Rem dub the phenomenon "newspace" -- but are at a loss to explain what it really is and who, or what, is keeping them there. For Lang, it seems like old times: The ship's Protoculture drives have disappeared.

But other events are transpiring, unbeknownst to the stranded crew of the SDF-3.

In Earthspace, the Ark Angel has been spared the fate suffered by the REF main fleet after the Invid transubstantiation. Vince and Jean Grant decide that the only logical course of action is to try and locate the SDF-3...

On Haydon IV, something has awakened the Awareness -- and a mysterious change comes over the Haydonites. Exedore and the four Sterlings suddenly find themselves imprisoned beneath the surface -- as the planet leaves orbit, destination unknown...

All of the pieces of this strange cosmic puzzle are about to come together...and the ultimate conflict is imminent. The question is:

Will The Universe Survive?

Excellent Book!!!!!!!! 5 out of 5 stars.

For about the past year I have been a big fan of the Robotech anime series. I first got hooked into the series by reading the novelizations of the series, which includes Battlecry, Doomsday and The Southern Cross series. But when I found out that a rerelease of this book was comming out, I knew that I had to get my hands on it. Form what I read so far, this is an excellent book. I not going to say anything further about it for those who haven't had a chance to read it yet. But definatelly check this out and the other Robotech novels. You will not be dissapointed.

WOW, this is an AWESOME book! If you ever wanted to know what
happened after the last Macross Saga series episode (Episode 36: To the Stars), but before the first Sentinels series episode, this book will reveal ALL! Like: Lisa Hayes is now Admiral Hayes, Rick Hunter reluctantly accepts promotion to Vice Admiral, Rolf
Emerson debuts in the Robotech story, Dr. Lang is introduced to Invid carcass firsthand, Rick and Lisa continue to fight, the Southern Grand Cannon (Alaska Base's Grand Cannon sister) was
never completed, Power Hungry Politicians create the new UEG with plans to overthrow the RDF/REF, Miriya learns there was another
Zentraedi Female who gave birth to a Human child, Dr. Lang pushes for a return mission to Macross Island in Plutospace, Scott Bernard's HERO Johnathan Wolf makes his Robotech debut, Lynn-Kyle RETURNS, Rick proposes to Lisa, Rook Bartley's parents become an intricate part of Johnathan Wolf's "Wolf Pack", Professor Zand gets a mind boost and becomes Super Smart just like Dr. Lang, The REF unveils their new creations-the Alpha Veritech-the Hovertank-the Gargantuan Ground Mobile Unit-and sexy new uniforms, Max crashes the Skull One Veritech, the Southern Cross becomes a POWERHOUSE, but the BEST SHOCKER of all was the ending on Chapter 4. It'll blow you away! Read the book and find out lots more great details in the Robotech storyline. I highly recommend this book to all Robotech fans. I hope they also release this book on DVD.

Editorial Review:

Not everyone was eager to share the planet Earth with the Zentraedi survivors of the First Robotech War. There was little prospect of a lasting peace, as the tensions in the Southlands gave rise to two opposing forces, and each vowed to fight until the other was eradicated. Caught beween the two rivals was the Robotech Defense Force. Rick Hunter, Lisa Hayes, Max and Miriya Sterling, Breetai, and others who would all have their parts to play in the period that came to be called the Malcontent Uprisings....

Excellent! A well plotted book, action-filled to the brim. 5 out of 5 stars.

It was very interesting and had a very good balance of suspense:not to little and not to much. It gave a very good idea of the situation the characters were in.It had a lot of information describing weapons,mecha.etc. Jack McKinney is one of the best authors around.

Editorial Review:

The bearlike Karbarrans and the swashbuckling amazons from Praxis, the feral natives of Garuda and the Human Robotech heroes -- these oddly -- met champions banded together with other races, from other planets, to form the Sentinels.

Yet what fighting force could hope to dislodge the Invid hordes from Haydon IV, ethereal world of superscience and hidden emotional conflict; or Spheris, crystalline globe of living minerals and murderous resonances?

The Sentinels launch their attack nevertheless; they've come too far to surrender to tyranny. But the treachery of a megalomanic Human general and a mutating Invid P.O.W. make the war seem hopeless.

The Sentinels battle on, though, because for them it's...

Victory or Death!

Robotech The Sentinels: Rubicon 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This is one of the best Robotech books by far. The Robotech Expeditionary Force has come halfway across the galaxy to wage war against the Invid but they've found another enemy far more dangerous than the Invid Regent, that enemy is one of the REF's own general T.R. Edwards and his ghost squadron. With the death of the Invid Regent at the hand's of Breetai, T.R. Edwards takes control of the Invid Horde for a fight that the Sentinels must win for their own planets, the Human's homeworld Earth, and the protoculture matrix.

Editorial Review:

Optera! Birthplace of the Flowers of Life and their agents of retribution, the Invid . . . nexus for an unfolding of events that had left the galaxy reshaped and redefined . . . and now the focal point of the Sentinels' long campaign to liberate the Quadrant from the Regent's tyranny.
Edwards is on his way to Optera, in flight from Tirol with his prisoner Lynn-Minmei and a handful of Invid Inorganics under his control. So too are Breetai's Zentraedi -- closing on the very world the Imperative bade them defoliate generations ago -- and the renegade forces of Tesla, mutated beyond recognition by the fruits of the Flower.
The Sentinels themselves are not far behind. However, they have Peryton to deal with first -- a godforsaken planet cursed by fate and time itself. But what awaits Rick, Lisa, and the Human Sentinels there is a mere primer for what is to come: the realization that they have journeyed across the galaxy . . . to wage war against each other!

Now we learn the story... 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

of what happened to Rick Hunter and the SDF-3! The story opens six years after the end of the First Robotech War. Admirals Rick and Lisa Hunter must lead a crew of thousands to Tirol, to make peace with the Robotech Masters. Little do they know that they end up passing the Robotech Masters as they are on their way to EARTH! In the end, the Expeditionary Mission will be greeted by the Invid!
They are all back: Breetai, Exedore, Max and Miriya Sterling, a Jonathan Wolff who is not yet bitter and Dr. Lang. You even a peek at a young Bowie Grant and a young Dana Sterling.

Editorial Review:

It was 2020. Six years had passed since the destruction of the Super Dimensional Fortresses 1 and 2, that final tragedy of the First Robotech War. But Earth was on the mend now, and from the wreckage of those ships the Robotech Defense Force had succeeded in fashioning a new battle fortress -- the SDF-3. Its mission: to cross the galaxy and make peace with Tirol's Robotech Masters.
It sounded straightforward enough; but unknown to Admirals Rick and Lisa Hunter and their crew of thousands, the Robotech Masters were already on their way to Earth!
Nevertheless Tirol would have a greeting in store for the Expeditionary Mission: an incendiary salute from the warlord whose hordes had conquered half the galactic Quadrant -- the Invid Regent! Threatened with a swift and violent end, and suddenly torn by internal struggles for power, the RDF would find itself thrust into a savage war for survival!

Stranded on the planet of the Amazons! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Which would not be that bad if the planet was not already empty and falling about. Will the Sentinels escape the doomed planet?
Will Dr. Lang be able to stop General Edward from taking over the REF and build his own war fleet? Will the REF betray Rick and Lisa Hunter, leaving them to the mercy of the Invid? Will the real Invid Regent stand up? And why does everybody want Minmei?

Editorial Review:

Marooned On A Doomed World!

Four months passed without a word from the Sentinels, and the members of the Expeditionary Mission to Tirol were beginning to fear the worst. This, even as they entered into truce negotiations with the being who might have been responsible for the destruction of the Sentinels' starship -- the Invid Regent himself.

Meanwhile, the survivors of the Farrago remained hopelessly stranded on Praxis, a planet in cataclysm, hastened to endtime by the dark designs of the Invid Regis. But deep within that world's transformed core were answers to the Sentinels' prayers; if they could only reach them before Praxis tore itself apart. For Rick and Lisa Hunter, Cabell, and the others, the moment had arrived for desperate actions...

And Time Was Running Out!

A thrilling cyberpunk drama set on the Robotech universe. 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

The Masters Gambit is one of the best Sci-Fi books that I have ever read. To the contrary of other sci-fi novelized series, like Star Wars, in which the aging and tired heroes are called once again for fighting the would-be Emperor warlord of the week, in the Robotech novels the story evolves logically and coherently without contradicting previous and future developments with a lot of action, drama, romance and moments of fun too. Going to the point of this critic, this novel in particular approaches the Robotech universe from a Cyberpunk point of view, up to the heights of a William Gibson's "Neuromancer" or any work by Bruce Sterling. Its dark enviroment is appealing, in which an "orphaned" new generation without links neither feelings towards the Pre-space war world of their dead parents, is only interested in drugs, having casual sex, and surfing the cyberspace for hacking goverment and corporations secrets as a way of earning the day; all this makes of this book a very interesting story about what the future of our society could be. In a very interesting fact, "The Masters Gambit" outruns the cult anime movie "Macross Plus" in first introducing the concept of a virtuoroid, a virtual reality idol, "EVE" all along the story kept me remembering to "Sharon Apple" And besides is an excellent way by the part of the virtuoroid author "Jack McKinney" of linking the stories of the original Macross generation with the generation of the Southern Cross army. Paraphrasing to "EVE": "The new generation assumes its reponsabilities with order and self-confidence and enjoys the life by reading Robotech novels".

Editorial Review:

The Robotech Masters had come to Earth to reclaim the precious Protoculture Matrix -- the enigmatic substance that powered an entire civilization. But poised on the edge of Earthspace, the Masters discovered their mission would not be easy. For Earth's Robotech defenders had vanquished the Masters' clone army, and the Super Dimensional Fortress that concealed the Matrix lay inaccessible beneath the ruins of Macross City. And though the SDF-1's mother computer had survived the holocaust, it was now housed at the Humans' Protoculture research lab in Tokyo -- where it had embarked on a second career as EVE, the telegenic guiding voice of the postwar generation.

EVE was the Masters' only possible access to the buried Matrix. But two things stood in their way: an ally of the Humans who seemed to be the renegade Robotech scientist Zor, and a group of young, cynical hackers out to subvert Tokyo's most powerful computers -- especially EVE the most tempting target of them all...
