Great Book If Your Kid Loved The Movie 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

The book pretty much follows the story of the movie and is full of movie photos. It's a bit long for a childs book, but my kid loves it and we read it every night.

So if you're kids love the movie and want to see it over and over again, buy and read them the book instead.

My Neighbor Totoro book 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is very adorable and follows the movie well. If you like the movie you will like the book.

Amazing book for everyone who loves this movie 5 out of 5 stars.

This book contains the entire storyline of the movie in both text and illustration and hits all the key events with perfect focus. The 'illustrations' are taken directly from the movie but are very crisp and high quality - not like some books that have poor quality movie stills. Our kids love this movie, have a home made soot-sprite mobile in their bedroom, and are crazy about this book. This is a really nice quality hard cover book and is much better than the comic book version in my opinion. Price is very cheap for what you get.

Love it! 5 out of 5 stars.

If your child (or you!) likes the movie they'll love the picture book! It is basically frames from the film with the (simplified) story. It is a lot longer and mroe in depth than I had realized but my 2 year old (!) is enthralled by it... This is the longest/thickest book he will sit still to read.... Highly recommend as a gift! OR for long car ride/air/train trips

Epic 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This is an epic masterpiece not just for manga lovers, but for anybody who enjoys reading a good fantasy story. The movie is good, too, but the manga, though it's written by the same person, offers a sort of different telling of the story portrayed in the film. Since the film was released before the manga was completed, there are different circumstances that occur in the manga. For instance, there had already been a war going on between the many countries around the Sea of Corruption, and the Valley of the Wind has become entangled in it. Since there are a few more volumes out there, you know that there's plenty more good stuff to come! I actually haven't purchased the remaining few volumes, but after reading the first one, I know that I simply have to!

Editorial Review:

Nausicaä, a gentle but strong-willed, young princess, has an empathic bond with the giant insects that evolved as a result of the ecosystem's destruction. Growing up in the Valley of the Wind, she learned to read the soul of the wind and navigates the skies in her glider. Nausicaä and her allies struggle to create peace between kingdoms torn apart by war, battling over the last of the world's precious natural resources.

Miyazaki's graphic novels are MUCH better than the animation. More depth and better story resolution. Visually stunning with tremendous thought and meaning.

a dissaponting ending. 3 out of 5 stars.
3 of 15 people found this review helpful.

I have to say that I went into this series with the expectation that it was going to be better than the movie. I am a huge fan of Miyazaki, and his movie Nausicaa, so when I heard it was a graphic novel I went out and bought the first copy. you wouldn't believe the trouble I had getting a hold of some of these books, but somehow I did it and now I will tell you about the ending.

The series for the most part up to this point was really good, with the 3rd book being my favorite. But the story gets bogged down a lot halfway through this book. the main character, Nausicaa, is so believable in all the other books, but in this one she stops being the lover of all things living and unwilling savor, to destroyer of everything from the past. She completely changes, and not for the better. That's the main reason I didn't like this book.

But another very big reason was because there were simply too many characters to keep
Track of. Let me write them out.

1) Nausicaa
2) Asbel
3) Yupa
4) Kushana
5) Keratowa
6) Ketcha
7) Chikio
8) The Dorok priest
9) The holy emperor
10) The Tolmekian emperor
11) Mito
12) The Jester
13) The god worrier
14) The forest people (there are two of them)
15) The worm handlers (lots of them)
16) The two princes
17) The master of the crypt
18) The crypts Keeper
19) And of course Teto

Wow, I don't even think I got them all. Once Nausicaa starts her journey to the crypt in shuwa most of these characters are ignored and then sort of thrown together at the end. There are so many that Miyazaki HAD to kill a few off, even though I could tell he didn't really want to, and the way some of them die is comical at best.

And lets not forget the ending. Man was is a disappointment. The whole story seemed slapped together, like Miyazaki got board of writing this book and just decided to end it anyway he could. And there really wasn't any ending. The story could have gone on for another book or two, but it just ends so abruptly that I was left with a sense of disappointment.

Overall the series is worth reading, if you can get it for a decent price. The art work and premise are great in and of themselves, and most of the books in this series are great. If you are a Miyazaki fan, or just a fan of the movie, go for it. Otherwise I don't think you could justify the price of getting all seven volumes.

Captivating 4 out of 5 stars.

Nausicaa is clearly the best of Miyazaki's movies, and, surprise, surprise, the books are even better than the movie. The books add considerable depth to Nausicaa's character and present a more complex story line.

My only complain is that the English version does not have the colorful book jackets found on the otherwise identical Japanese edition, which makes the English version seem a bit cheap by comparison. But it's a minor quibble.

The Adventure Continues! 5 out of 5 stars.

Nausicaa is an interesting story. I haven't seen the movie but am reading the books in order and finding the books draw me in more and more. I would love to see the movie too and am looking forward to more editions of this series.

Editorial Review:

Nausicaä finds herself on the edge of despair as she comes to realize the full extent of the ecological destruction that's ravaging Earth. Meanwhile, Queen Kushana of Torumekia plots to lead her troops back to the imperial capital and seize the crown. Nausicaä agrees to join Kushana and her people in the fight against the Doroks and her scheming brothers.

If your kid likes the movie, he'll love the book too 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

Our toddler has had a Kiki obsession ever since we showed him the movie. We bought him this book and the Totoro book and he loves both - so much that we no longer watch the movies. The books are long and filled with lots of pictures from the movies. They are broken into chapters so you can read one or two before bedtime. You pretty much need to love the movies before reading the books. The stories in the books are only highlights of the movies but still do a good job of capturing the interesting moments.

Movie Manga 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

A fun picture retelling of the film with a "manga" feel. We have a copy of the same thing in the Japanese (purchased at the Ghibli Museum), so it was fun to get a version that our young readers could read on their own. A fairly easy read for middle readers. A nice, concise retelling without cumbersome details. The manga-like character introduction at the beginning was a fun touch.

Editorial Review:

Kiki, a young witch-in-training, has reached the age of 13. According to tradition, all witches of that age must leave home for one year, so that they can learn how to live on their own. Kiki, along with her talking cat Jiji, fly away to live in the seaside town of Korico. After starting her own delivery service (using her broom as the delivery vehicle), Kiki must learn how to deal with her new life, especially after she loses the power to fly.

Gorgeous book with easy to follow story. 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

My 5 year old loved the movie so I bought this book and it is/was a big hit. Even though it is rather long for a childrens book each page isn't too wordy as some can be and the illustrations are a beautiful as the movie's animation.

Love the chicken feet on the castle! 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I saw the movie, Howl's Moving Castle, and then saw the picture book advertised. As I am a teacher-librarian in a high school, I decided to buy the book to put in the school library. I found the pictures bright and eye-catching, and I knew that our students do a study of picture books in English in their senior years. The castle also links very strongly to the story of Baba Yaga, whose house was on chicken feet, although it was a much darker abode. One of the seniors has reserved the book already, so I think my decision has been vindicated. Also, the book is much more appealing than the text version, although the text version does explain some of what happens to Sophie. I highly recommend this book.

Editorial Review:

Add Howl's Moving Castle to this list of must-have movie books. Director Hayao Miyazaki is a master storyteller and his films have all become classics of animation. There's no better way to preserve the magic of Howl and his flying castle than by adding this delightful volume to your home library.

I purchased this book for my 9 year-old who absolutely loves the movie. We bought the DVD years ago and he will still watch it occasionally. When I bought the book, I think he fell in love with the story all over again. The illustrations are incredible and the colors are so vibrant that I had to read it alongside my son. I would love to buy another one to keep as a collector's item.

Beautiful Anime Comic... 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

A beautiful adaptation of the anime. Makes a GREAT gift. Too bad there is no box set or something, I think that would sell REALLY well...

Anyway, the color is just beautiful and its a great way to relive the action and emotion of the original anime, or for people who didn't see it to see it for the first time.

A wonderful little book 5 out of 5 stars.

Poor 10-year-old Chihiro Ogino is so unhappy that her family is moving to a new home. But, things go from bad to weird, when her father takes a wrong turn, and finds what he believes to be an abandoned theme park. When night falls, Chihiro finds herself in a strange and threatening world of magic and weird creatures. Rescued by a young boy named Haku, he tells Chihiro what she must do to survive and rescue her parents.

This wonderful little book is the work of Hayao Miyazaki, one of Japan's premiere animators. A great thing about this book is that it is printed so as to be read from back-to-front, right-to-left, in the Japanese style, helping to give the reader the feeling of entering another world. I really enjoyed this book, and found the story to be nothing short of wonderful. I highly recommend this book.

Editorial Review:

Ten-year-old Chihiro finds herself abandoned when her parents are turned into pigs. To survive, she goes to work in a bathhouse catering to bizarre beings. This graphic novel is based on the highest-grossing animated movie in Japanese film history and a collection of its artwork by worldwide famous anime author Hayao Miyazaki.

A Treasure of Romantic Images from a Bygone Time 5 out of 5 stars.
10 of 10 people found this review helpful.

This is a must for any fan of the Crimson Pig. I originally got my copy for inspiration for building models of the various aircraft featured in the story. I was hoping for more images of the gunsmith's shop and the hanger where they rebuilt Porco's plane, but was completely satisfied with the content. Just a relaxing collection of artwork from a time when people knew how to behave like ladies and gentlemen... and pirates.
