I wish I could write like this! 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

Calling Doctor Amelia Bedelia by Herman Parish, like all of his Amelia Bedelia books, is hysterically funny. Parish's use of expressions confuse Mr. Rogers' maid, Amelia Bedelia, throughout the entire story. Poor, silly, Amelia Bedelia never realizes how confused she really is. She takes everything anyone says literally, so when her boss Mr. Rogers says "jump in the car", she thinks that he actually means to sit in the car and jump.
In this story, Amelia Bedelia goes to the doctor. However, when she gets there the nurse asks for Amelia Bedelia's help with the patients. A woman who calls the doctor's office to complain that she has "caught a bug" is told to "let it go" by Amelia Bedelia. She proceeds to tell a woman who has hives to bring some honey to the doctor's office. She looks at a bank's clock to take a patient's temperature and she tells a boy to draw his own blood onto a piece of blank paper. A boy says that he is at the office for a test and Amelia Bedelia tells him that he must go to school.
No matter what Amelia Bedelia did for most of the book, she is a hit when she "treats" the patients to ice cream! This is not exactly what the nurse had in mind when she said to treat the patients, however, Amelia Bedelia comes out looking like a hero!
Amelia Bedelia is entertaining to the adults who read this story to children because we have an even better sense of Amelia Bedelia's silliness. I love reading this story to my second graders and they love hearing it!

Editorial Review:

Funny bones

The doctor is out! But Amelia Bedelia is ready to help a crowd of grouchy patients. Along the way she doses out some of the best medicine of all -- laughter, of course!

Good Driving, Amelia Bedelia 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

"Good Driving, Amelia Bedelia" is a story about a girl named Amelia Bedelia who wants to visit her cousin Alcolu so she can take a day off and rest on her birthday. Friends of hers, Mr. and Mrs. Rogers allow her to use their car to get to her cousin's house. But first Mr. Rogers takes Amelia out to make sure she still knows how to drive. Along the way, Amelia keeps misinterpreting Mr. Rogers's directions, like pushing on the horn of a cow instead of honking the car horn and misinterpreting a fork in the road as an actual kitchen utensil lying in the road. Soon their car gets a flat tire, but luckily a man in a towtruck happens to pass by and gives them a ride home where a party is waiting for Amelia.
I think that this is a pretty good book because it is fun to see how Amelia Bedelia can mix up just about anything Mr. Rogers says to her but I didn't find anything really special about it. The book is entirely for entertainment of how Amelia totally misinterprets everything around her.

Editorial Review:

When Mr. Rogers goes for a drive with Amelia Bedelia, he's in for the ride of his life. She does exactly what he tells her –– and that gets them into trouble, but only Amelia Bedelia can make a car trip this much fun!

Reduces Children to Puddles of Laughter 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

2003, is Amelia Bedelia's 40th birthday! Yes dear readers, this lovable and seriously silly character is 40 years old. I didn't make Amelia's acquaintance until I had my first son, and he began school. That is actually longer ago than I would like to admit, but Amelia has been part of this family's life ever since, and kept the kids and even us adults entertained on more than one occasion!

Peggy Parish brought this delightful character to life in 1963, and Amelia Bedelia is still going strong today. Amelia Bedelia, Bookworm puts the housekeeper in the local library where she has a very unexpected adventure. You see, Amelia takes things that people say all too literally, so that they have to be very careful when speaking to this good-hearted young woman.

A day spent volunteering in the library ought to be fairly quiet, maybe even a little dull, but not for Amelia Bedelia. From the moment she brings in the books she's borrowed - all with their own knitted jackets - the excitement switch is set to "on!" Mrs. Page, the librarian is shocked when Amelia Bedelia vanishes with the bookmobile and one of the children. This time it doesn't look very good for Amelia Bedelia, she may be in deeper trouble than ever before. Hopefully she can explain to both Mrs. Page and her supervisor that she was only "going by the book."

You won't be able to keep a straight face through this adventure, and there is nothing more lovely than the sounds of children's laughter. See what happens when you introduce them to Amelia Bedelia - your lives will never be quite the same again!

amelia bedelia's masterpiece 4 out of 5 stars.

I thought the book had a cute story. My 5 3/4 year old daughter loves to read Amelia Bedelia's.
She found this story a little slow in the beginning, and would only read 4 or 5 pages at a time. About the middle of the book the pace picked up and she enjoyed the story more once the artist stole a painting, and a little boy created artwork on the blank walls.

The art world won't give Amelia the brush-off! 5 out of 5 stars.

America's favorite befuddled housekeeper is now exploring the art world. Of course, a big museum is a treasure trove of opportunities for Amelia Bedelia to turn misinterpretation into an art form that young readers will never forget!

Amelia Bedelia's Masterpiece is filled with glorious illustrations that move the story along and underscore the meaning of the word play.

The BEST Amelia Bedelia yet! 5 out of 5 stars.

I have been reading the Amelia Bedelia books for as long as I can remember. When I found out that I could review one, I told my mom to get it right away! I think that this book was really good. It was the best one yet in my opinion.

In this book, Amelia Bedelia had to work for an art museum because it was low on staff. She was asked to help out. She found a bus that looked like Cousin Alcolu's bus and she wanted to buy it. Then, when she was walking around doing her job, she saw a painter copying a painting to learn how to paint better. Later, she saw the same person switch his painting for the real one and walk away. Amelia Bedelia alerted everyone and they locked the doors. They caught this person thanks to Amelia Bedelia.

Amelia Bedelia is a funny character and I look forward to reviewing more of these books! "Amelia Bedelia's Masterpiece" by Herman Parish was really good.

Editorial Review:

When Amelia Bedelia goes to the art museum, she meets Art, helps Drew draw, and busts a bust. She also foils a theft, bakes a cake, and saves the day. Is there anything Amelia Bedelia can't do?

Hillarious!! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

A wonderful, funny, terrific book to share with your kids!! Amelia Bedelia is up to her usual antics of constant literal confusion when she babysits for a family and ends up beginning a construction project on their house. A definite must have for any Amelia Bedelia fan!!

Call Amelia Bedelia for some real home improvements! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

America's favorite befuddled housekeeper accidentally becomes involved in the construction industry because she misunderstood the meaning of a household addition! Instead of babysitting while the lady of the house is at the doctor's office, she greets a construction crew at the door looking for another address, and launches the kids and the crew into a home improvement project that you will never forget.

Young readers may need some help to grasp some of the terminology here, but the wonderful illustrations make the action move along and underscore the humorous word play!

Amelia Bedelia Under Construction is bound to be a favorite in your house!

Editorial Review:

Caution! When Amelia Bedelia takes on a home renovation project, she adds her own funny touches, from sanding the deck with buckets of sand to pulling out the hammers to break ground!

There's a science fair at school, and Amelia Bedelia is helping out, in a way that only she can!

Of course, all will be well in the end, but first there will be laugh-out-loud midadventures including a toupee on a computer, getting the "bugs" out of an invention, and enough misunderstandings to make Amelia Bedelia, Rocket Scientist? one of your child's favorite books.

Amelia Bedelia Goes to the Science Fair 3 out of 5 stars.

This book is Ok, but the Amelia Bedelia concept is wearing a bit thin here. I'll have to see how the kids like it. The vocabulary is harder than most Amelia Bedelia books so it may be hard for kids to read on their own.

As a beginning reader my 5 3/4 year old found this book easy to read! She loved the story, and it took her only 4 nights to read it. She loved the surprises on each page, and couldn't wait to find out what happened!

see what Amelia Bedelia does for Halloween! 4 out of 5 stars.

It's Halloween at the Rogers House and they want to have a party. They need Amelia Bedelia's help in getting ready. Amelia Bedelia takes every situation in stride and does exactly as she is told. Read to see what happens when she's told to crack the window, a leaf for the table and goes "trick or treating"!

This book will have parents and children laughing out loud, until the last page.

Amelia Bedelia is a great series for younger kids and a good way to teach them to read. It also helps them to understand two ways of looking at things.

Another Amelia Bedelia Book, This Time - Halloween! 4 out of 5 stars.

I can't say I'm the biggest Amelia Bedelia fan, but I teach ESOL students and many, just love Amelia Bedelia! They see themselves as Amelia Bedelia as they go through their English language learning and feel they make the same mistakes as Amelia does in understanding people at times. It allows them to laugh at themselves while seeing someone else go through things they have done or misunderstood at one time or another. The series is joy for them at this level of reading and remember fondly after.

Very cute book! 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

If you're familiar with the Amelia books, this is a continuation of the zany antics of the gal who just "takes things literally." In this edition, Amelia, poor thing, just cannot get it together to play in the school orchestra. She tries and by the end of the story, finds herself rolling into a bass drum and stealing the show. You know it's going to be band when the story begins with Amelia being instructed to pick up the conductor. Well, she tries to "pick up the conductor" of the local train but says, "I tried to pick him up but he just preferred to walk." And, on it goes from there. The guest conductor finally arrives and Amelia decides to help him out with the rehearsal and the performance. The conductor finally gets Amelia locked into a room and instructs her not to come out until her cue but well, she misses her cue and runs into the bass drum. It's a very cute story about misconceptions and how we should all clarify what we mean. Honestly, if we all took literally what we said then we would all be Amelia Bedelias. Great story, we have to read this one quite a bit in our house at bedtime. Very funny stuff!

Editorial Review:

When Mrs Rogers sends Amelia Bedelia to the station to pick up the conductor for the school concert, she doesn't expect her to bring back the train conductor. As usual, Amelia Bedelia has gotten things all mixed up in her latest hilarious adventure.

When Amelia Bedelia is put in charge of the school Thanksgiving pageant, things are bound to get a little mixed up. Amelia Bedelia 4 Mayor 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

This was an informative book which discussed the political system, the qualifications and requirements needed to be mayor. It used lots of political terms in a humorous manner. Backwards Amelia made learning the political sysytem interesting with the play on words. Note to teachers: This is a great tool to teach social studies and figurative language.A mock election could be done.

Herman Parish doesn't have his aunt's spark 1 out of 5 stars.

I grew up reading and loving the Amelia Bedelia books. It was a very sad day when Peggy Parish died.

It was an even sadder day when her nephew Herman Parish got it into his head to continue the series. His efforts are uninspired and forced. Amelia just seems dumb in his books. In the originals she was a sweet bumbler.

Definitely stick with the early books in the series!

Editorial Review:

The race is on!

Amelia Bedelia always does what she's told. So when Mr. Rogers tells her she should run for Mayor Thomas's office, she picks up her shirt, and dashes off to City Hall. She knows just what she'd do in the mayor's shoes (polish them, of course). With Amelis Bedelia in the race, politics will never be the same!
