Alex "skinnybones" is back for more in this hilarious sequel to Skinnybones. Alex has won a contest and is going to star in a TV commercial. The anticipation of this event has Alex filled with ideas for his upcoming fame and celebrity. He fantasizes about signing autographs and his future in show business. However, as Alex finds out, it's not always a done deal! Alex is hilarious in this return of Barbara Park's story about "dreams" and reality. She really knows how to pack the laugh- out-loud moments in all her comedic offerings. I have never known a child not to almost "roll on the floor" with laughter. If your child reads this book, and you are listening, you will be granted a wonderful memory of your child's delight in books!

Editorial Review:

"Alex 'Skinnybones' Frankovitch is back, this time starring in a TV commercial after sending a prizewinning letter to a cat food company. Alex is signing autographs in preparation for his newfound celebrity, but things don't work out the way he hoped. Onscreen, he plays a six-year-old running away from home--quite an insult for a 12-year-old. Alex has one more chance at fame when he wins a role in A Christmas Carol, but it's as Tiny Tim, not Scrooge as Alex would have liked. As always, Park is laugh-out-loud funny and kids will have a wonderful time with this story."--Booklist.

A Hysterical Look at Sibling Rivalry at its Hottest! 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 5 people found this review helpful.

OPERATION DUMP THE CHUMP is the story of two boys locked in mortal combat (otherwise known as "sibling rivalry") and one brother's ingenius and humorous attempt to rid himself of his scourge-of-a little brother.

Barbara Park has a wonderful gift of looking at the world through the eyes of a child. Her writing style captures the brutally honest way that children view parents, siblings, and the world at large.

I am using this book in a summer reading program; Ms. Park's entertaining style, wit, and the way she speaks the language of students, has made this book a great choice as one that will keep the attention of students.

Editorial Review:

"Sure to delight kids, this is the story of 10-year-old Oscar and his plan to get rid of his pesky younger brother, 'the chump.' Oscar's ingenious eight-step plan involves an elderly neighbor couple and Oscar's supposedly destitute father. Kids might see the punch line coming, but they'll be laughing out loud all the way there."--Booklist. Reading level: 5.0.

There's no such thing as monsters. Mother and Daddy even said so. But then why is there monster drool on Junie B.'s pillow? Oh, no! What if Paulie Allen Puffer is right-what if she really does have a monster under her bed? If Junie B. goes to sleep, the monster might see her feet hanging down. And he might think her piggy toes are yummy little wiener sausages!

Los monstruos no existen. Eso es lo que dicen papa y mama. Pero entonces, por que hay babas de monstruo en la almohada de Junie B. Jones? Oh, no!

This book deserves six stars! 5 out of 5 stars.

This book deserves six stars! It was very funny. My favorite part was after the school program when Charles's mother came over to him and whispered to him that his zipper was down and when he saw the underwear all bunched up in his zipper! I like Barbara Park's books. She is today's funniest writers for children. I hope she keeps on writing.

warning to parents 3 out of 5 stars.

My 9 yr. old daughter and I did enjoy this book, however, WARNING! Do not read this book if your child believes in Santa Claus or Easter Bunny. I was hoping to carry out the illusion for one more year but the author puts an abrupt end to that possibility.

Wonderful. 5 out of 5 stars.

When Charlie learns that his parents are getting a divorce, he won't take it lying down!! Never!! He'll do anything to get them back together. ANYTHING, including run away. This is a hilarious and heart-warming book about a boy's way of coping with divorce.

Surprisingly funny. 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is actually one of the funniest I've ever read: "This must be it! I thought to myself as I ran to the door. Quickly, I pulled it open. There stood Hank. Hank is one of my mother's cousins. She has three of them. The other one is Hank." This book is funny enough for adults to be amused and never gets preachy or condescending. It's a good book to teach kids about divorce, also. Highly reccomended for any age!

It's almost the end of the school year, and Room Nine is taking a field trip to a farm! There's lots of fun farm stuff there. Like a real actual barn. And a real actual farmer. There's even real alive animals you can pet! Only, where's the gift shop? That's what Junie B. Jones would like to know. Surely no one would want Junie B. to go home empty-handed. . .

A Realistic, Funny Story About Characters Kids Can Relate To 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Maxie, Rosie and Earl are outcasts. Maxie Zuckerman is a brainiac; so smart that the other kids in his class make fun of him for getting all A's---but his problem could be solved if only the teacher agreed to move him to the front of the class. Rosie Swanson is a snitch; her teacher frequently has to speak to her about her habit of constantly writing notes... To him. She writes notes to him and tattles on everyone in her class. But she has her reasons. After all, her grandfather was a detective, of course...
And Earl Wilber is overweight. Plus he's a wimp. And he's the new kid.
All three wonderfully individual characters meet in the principal's office---Maxie because he finally got fed up with his classmates bullying him and got a little out of control with the craft supplies, Rosie because she was passing notes to the teacher again, and Earl because he refused to read in front of the class. (He has reasons, too. Last time he tried to it came out horribly wrong.)
But, when the principal turns out to be too busy to see them and excuses them from his office until Monday... Their teachers think they're at the office. And the principal thinks they're in class.
So they have the perfect chance to escape.

This book is hilarious. Barbara Park is a brilliant writer, humorous and capable of telling a story with genuine realism as a child. Children will relate to this book, to the feeling of being different... And sometimes just needing to get out. It doesn't actually encourage skipping school, by the way. In fact, it sort of even discourages it.
Read it! The characters are quirky and funny and real. They could be actual children speaking to you. Also, it's just... Entertaining. There's no other way to put it.

Editorial Review:

"Here's a book so funny, readers can't help but laugh out loud. Three

misfits decide to skip school--and then worry all weekend they will be found

out. Park's characters are so real, yet so wild, the actual plot hardly

matters. The incredibly fast pacing, the one-liners, and the weird twists make

this irresistible. A good read aloud, too."--(starred) Booklist.

Rosie Swanson--tattletale queen of the fourth grade and not exactly what

you'd call popular--is running for class president. Tired of being picked on

and pushed around, she's ready to run the show. "Park, as usual, is right on

target with kids' problems, and Rosie learns some pretty tough things about

friendship and popularity. With thoroughly believable characters and plenty of

laugh-out-loud lines, her experience makes for a very good read."--Booklist.

We have gotten this book at lesst 10 times over the past year at
our local library. I finally decided we had to own it.
The story is hysterical and really eases "boogeyman" type fears in
young children. We love to read it with our own "boogeyman" voice
(A heavy new york accent!). This is a stroy both parents
and kids will love. Barbara Park is the author and she is
also the author of the similarly hysterical Junie B. Jones series.
Highly recommended!

Sarai's Review 5 out of 5 stars.

This story is about a boy.The bogeyman was under the boy bed whild he was reading a animal book . the bogeyman came , and The boy was scare.the bogeyman start to talk to the boy about something . The bogeyman tell story to the boy, and tell bogeyman told the boy to not leave his sock siting there because he going to chock . So the bogeyman went to the sister room.

Editorial Review:

It's the Bogeyman, and he's stew-spewin', gravel-chewin' mad. He's tired of all the nonsense people say about him. He doesn't say BOO -- that's a baby word. He doesn't want to get ya -- if he got ya, what would he do with ya? His job is to scare you, and he's very good at it -- unless you happen to know the secret that will send the Bogeyman scrambling in terror to someone else's bedroom.
