Yes Yes! A Box of Board Books 5 out of 5 stars.

Wonderful books. Excellent for small children.
I love the way that she explains little things.
The most important is that this is a set of three books.

Great to start or add on Patricelli's collection 5 out of 5 stars.

My 16 months daughter likes all the Patricelli's books so far. I think my husband & I like the books more. It's a great tool to teach little ones about lots of things; what is OK to eat, what is not (Yummy, Yucky), Manners (No No Yes Yes) etc. If this is your fist time buying Patricelli's book, this 3 books bundle is a good deal. Enjoy!!!

A Favorite in Our House! 5 out of 5 stars.

My son loves these Patricelli board books so much, he asks for them daily! In fact, "No, No, Yes, Yes" was the very first book he ever "read" to me at 1 1/2! The easy, repetitive text makes it simple for little ones to read, and the lively illustrations hold lots of context clues for understanding. We often give these books as birthday gifts, and everyone enjoys them!

Read before buying 2 out of 5 stars.

I love this author-- we have a few of her other books such as Big, Little and Quiet, Loud. My 16 month old daughter absolutely adores them. I was disappointed by the content of this particular book. Things such as chicken, fish sticks, hamburgers, cookies and chocolate sauce are illustrated as being "yummy". We happen to be vegetarian so I wish I had known about the animals listed as food items. But beyond that, listing chocolate sauce, cookies and ice cream for this age group is risky. I don't plan on introducing those things to her diet yet so I'm planning on returning the book to Amazon. I think the content should be a bit more baby/toddler friendly, and a bit more health conscious. How about listing apple sauce as yummy instead of chocolate sauce?

Editorial Review:

Spaghetti is yummy, but worms - and blue crayons, and sand, and other things too gross to mention - are definitely yucky when tasted. Amiably illustrated in a bright, graphic style, Leslie Patricelli’s spirited board book, YUMMY YUCKY stars an obliging, bald, and very expressive toddler who acts out each pair of opposites with comically dramatic effect. Learning about opposites has never been more fun - or funny - than with this winning board book. Yummy!

Great book! 5 out of 5 stars.

I bought this book for my niece who is 16 months. She too can be a quiet and a loud baby at times. This is a great book for toddlers because of the bright colors and length of story.

Simple and Cute 5 out of 5 stars.

My one year old son and I read every night. The colors and the simplicity of the idea makes it easy for him to understand and learn. So further emphasize the difference in quiet and loud, I use my voice, and he laughs.

we love this book! 5 out of 5 stars.

we adore this book! my three year old loves it just as much as my baby. I love the illustrations and the simple narrative. my daughter's favorite part is "burping" at the end!

ettiquette for toddlers 5 out of 5 stars.

like one other reviewer said the patricelli books are like "miss manners" for toddlers. my daughter (19 months) stares very intently at all the pictures as we go through the book. we always elaborate a bit on what the child is doing in each picture

Yes! Yes! Yes! 5 out of 5 stars.

My son and I have almost all of these books. They make for a perfect read at night before bed to spice things up and to always be learning.

Teacher recommended 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book as a mentor text for my kindergarten class as we began reviewing the word "no" and learning to write "yes." Talking about each illustration really helped my English learners talk about things they were familiar with as each has younger siblings. No one in my class thought it was a baby book and all of them can read it independently. I truly recommend making this a part of your library if you are a kindergarten teacher and plan to teach new sight words early in the school year. I'll be checking into Patricelli's other books to see how they can help me teach other concepts in a funny way with easy to read text.

Editorial Review:

YES! This must-have toddler title sheds light on some concepts with a comical flair.

Yanking cat by tail: no NO. Gentle pat on back: yes YES. And it’s funny how dumping a bowl of food gets a very different reaction from mastering the use of a spoon. An expressive baby demonstrates familiar behaviors — and their predictable responses — in an amusing board book that merits a giant YES!

she's loved this book to pieces 5 out of 5 stars.

My daughter is 17 months old and I am now buying this book for the second time because she has already overused her old one. At one point she was just bringing me pages and seemed so disappointed when all I could do was turn the cardboard over. I eventually had to just throw the pages away and get a new one.

Excellent for infants! 5 out of 5 stars.

My 8-month old loves these books. The pictures are simple but endlessly fascinating to him, and the message is simple and clear. I read this, "Yummy-Yucky" and "Quiet-Loud" every day to him and he never tires of them. (I cannot say the same for every book I want to read to him.)

Sooooo cute!!!!!!!!!!! 5 out of 5 stars.

All of this series of books by Leslie Patricelli are adorable! They're funny and they teach great concepts. As an early childhood teacher and mother I think they are great and highly recommend them!

Excellent addition to collection 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

We love this Patricelli book almost as much as the others. As usual, my toddler loved it initially because the baby in the book has nipples, a welcome detail that other books (infuriatingly) leave out.
My two-year-old is fascinated by emotions, and loves the pendulum sway of baby happy, baby sad...baby happy, baby sad. Of course you have to fill in the details and describe what's happening with your own words--that's the point of reading to children, isn't it?
I love this book, in particular, because it makes my child squeal with glee because he empathizes with the baby--like the baby in the book, mud makes him happy and shampoo makes him sad. Playing with the cat makes him happy; a fleeing cat (whose tail has been pulled) makes him sad, too. This baby, my child thinks, knows a thing or two about real baby emotions.
My only problem with the book is that it portrays nighttime as a scary abandonment--dark room, baby crying and reaching for daddy who is leaving baby alone in the crib = baby sad; morning with dad re-entering room makes baby happy. We read it with a different emphasis--when baby is sad in bed, daddy comes to help. When baby is happy in the morning, daddy comes to join him!
Even with this need for an editorial change that quiets, rather than heightens, nighttime anxiety, we all love this book. I rank it third to No no yes yes and quiet loud.

Editorial Review:

YES! This must-have toddler title sheds light on some concepts with a comical flair that will make readers HAPPY.

A towering ice-cream cone makes Baby HAPPY. But when that delectable treat goes splat, it makes Baby SAD. And how quickly HAPPY turns to SAD when a favorite red balloon flies away! Even the littlest listeners will relate to this playful look at a pair of emotions that are part of every baby’s day.

This is our 18-month old daughter's favorite book. She loves to say, "NO" at the end of every page! Get's young children interested in reading!

Best bed time story! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

My 10-12 months old boys love to hear the story before they go to bed. The part where the baby cries, when he can't find the binky, gets special attention from them, and the good ending finishes the story well and directs them to bed. I truely feel that they understand and like the story line, as they can identify with it, which is amazing for 10 months old babies.

Editorial Review:

A comically expressive tot pays tribute to the all-important Binky in a bright, playful board book sure to have instant toddler appeal.

Anyone who's spent time with a toddler knows that few crises compare with the (even temporary) loss of a favorite binky. Here, in her humorous, bold graphic style, Leslie Patricelli plays up a scenario near and dear to every toddler's heart, raising the plaintive question: can there be any peace in the house when a beloved binky is not to be found?

Simple, appealing to babies, but questionable content 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

The simple illustrations, the colored backgrounds, the adorable little baby--these are all great reasons to buy this book, especially if your little one is already on their way to becoming attached to his/her blankie. My son happens to adore his, and he truly does take it everywhere with him.

There is some controversy over the part where he takes the blankie to his time-outs (and the image shows him crying). I think one of the odd things about this book is that, while the main character is clearly a baby, there are several references that are more appropriate for an older character--I'm thinking both of the time-out scene and also the taking the blankie to school scene. Honestly, the time-out thing does not particularly concern me--I don't think it is meant to portray an infant/toddler too young to understand a time-out, and at the very least it makes for something interesting to talk about with an older child.

What actually kept me from giving the book 5 stars is toward the end. Kids emulate characters they like, and the lines "I don't like bedtime...." and "Blankie isn't afraid of the dark, but I am" seem very suggestive to me, and are in locations that are difficult to skip. My son loves to go to bed and is NOT afraid of the dark, and I hate for him to get the idea he should be! Still....

The best part of these books, in my mind, is that they have just a handful of words on each page, but unlike other books of this length, there are sufficient pages that there is a distinct progression in the "story", and it's long enough that he doesn't always insist on reading it 20 times in a row; but not so long that he can't finish it in one sitting.

My son is quite picky about books, and he loves all the Leslie Patricelli books, so we buy then, read them (over and over and over!), and accept that, unless we write the book ourselves, there will always be topics we don't love in the books our kids read.

Editorial Review:

The Birthday Box Book 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

My 2 year old LOVES all the Leslie Patricelli board books. He has almost all of them. However, I didn't like that this book wasn't a board book. So this means he can't sit and read/look at it by himself. The board books are perfect for little toddlers such as my son. He LOVES to read and be read to. The story is great and so are the illistrations. I just think it should have been a board book like the others. Leslie is a GREAT writer!!

Another adorable book from Leslie Patricelli 5 out of 5 stars.

Ms. Patricelli does a wonderful job of capturing the thoughts of toddlers and preschool age children. Her stories are adorable, and the artwork is well done. My daughter loves her books, and I don't mind reading them over and over again. This one is the first of her larger format books, as the rest are board books. I love when he climbs into the box! So cute!

Editorial Review:

What's better than getting a brand new toy as a birthday gift? Playing with the box it came in!

This birthday box is a blank canvas with unlimited potential. Youthful imagination can entice little ones to climb in and become the captain of their very own ship, transform into a pilot soaring through the sky, and even sled down the slippery slope of a giant hill. The adventures to be had are endless!

Perfect for teaching toddlers the concept of volume (sound) 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

The illustrations in this board book are perfect for the descriptive short phrases. Our 2-year old toddler requests this book before his naptime ('silencio') and both whispers and shouts where appropriate as I am reading. He mastered the concept of volume in sound as a result of this book, and it's really cute to see him put his finger to his lip to whisper 'shh' when he sees the 'silencio' pages. I highly recommend this book.

Editorial Review:

Bright, bold illustrations, and simple, direct text combine masterfully to teach preschoolers basic concepts, opposites, and lots of vocabulary. Guaranteed to make them laugh too!

Description in Spanish: Algunas cosas son silenciosas. Algunas cosas hacen ruido. ¡Todas son Divertidas!
