I have tried for years to find the book that I had when I was a little girl. I was so relieved to see this particular story was still available. My little boy now thinks this is the funniest thing he has ever heard!

Editorial Review:

This delightful collection of traditional tales and fables includes "The Three Sillies," "The Bremen Town Musicians," "The Fox and the Crow," "The Tortoise and the Hare," as well as "The Old Woman and Her Pig." Good introduction to geography 4 out of 5 stars.
6 of 7 people found this review helpful.

Rockwell follows her tried-and-true pattern of anchoring the subject by beginning and ending at the narrator's home, thereby leading the audience to relate themselves to the earth. She then briefly discusses various aspects of geography and geology, including the poles, dinosaurs, glaciers, islands, continents, volcanoes, water sources, forests, deserts, caves, mountains and canyons. The text is accompanied by colorful and detailed watercolor and gouache illustrations, including two maps. The subject of this book is much broader than those of other Rockwell books like Trains and On Our Vacation, and the text is suitable for an audience of older preschoolers and primary grade students. Given the number of concepts in the book, Rockwell can not go into much detail about any of them; fans of her one-concept books may be disappointed with the necessarily shallow coverage here. This book, however, provides a good overview of geographical and geological concepts, and exposes the reader to concepts with which they may not be familiar. It would be very useful to support a school unit on the earth, and would be enjoyed by the many children aged 4 to 8 who are interested in science and the earth.

Editorial Review:

Dive beneath the oceans and soar above the clouds in this exploration of Earth that makes a pleasing introduction to basic earth-science concepts.

Excellent Book! 5 out of 5 stars.

This is one of the most moving and best books for children about Buddha's life. There are many other good books, but this one is really straight forward and clear in his life's details. I would use this books with others to teach about Buddha, but this book would be the cornerstone while teaching about his life on Earth.

Editorial Review:

On a night more than two thousand years ago, a prince was born in India. He could have been the most powerful rajah in all the world. But instead, the prince chose to become a common beggar, seeking a way to end the suffering he saw around him. He knew riches could not end suffering. He learned that deprivation could not end suffering. Then, under an enormous spreading fig tree, deep in concentration, he found Enlightenment. He understood Dharma, the law governing all things. He had achieved Nirvana, the peace that triumphs over suffering. And he found this knowledge and understanding inside his own mind, nowhere else. He became the Buddha, and taught his way of ending suffering to all who wished to learn.

Seasonal Flavors 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This is a delightful picture book that describes each of the four seasons as follows: First, we see a page showing Bear Child's house and landscape, then Bear Child is pictured and his clothes named ("This is what Bear Child wears today-rubber boots, overalls, a flannel shirt, and a Windbreaker jacket."), then a two-page spread showing an overview of what town bears do during that season (e.g., planting seeds, flying a kite), and finally, two pages of close-ups of the bears doing the activities pictured on the previous page. This systematic approach is a great way to compare and contrast the clothes, climate, flora, and activities of the seasons, yet it is never boring or repetitive: Anne Rockwell's pictures switch from wide angle to close up perspectives and this adds an unexpected twist. A very satisfying book with warm, bright, colorful, illustrations, and lots of details to explore.

Editorial Review:

Bear Child notices that the clothes he wears, the things everyone does at work and play, and other parts of his world all change with the seasons.

A favorite 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This book is one of my four-year-old daughter's favorites, as well as one of mine. Its simple and melodic predictable text written from a child's point of view is complemented by its attractive illustrations of common plants and animals in nature.

Editorial Review:

Everything in nature grows up--just like you and me!
It's springtime, and the local pond is bursting with new life. Shiny black pollywogs are growing into fat frogs, and baby robins hatch from pale blue eggs. The blackberry bushes are full of sweet, juicy berries, and new monarch butterflies emerge from their cocoons. Listen closely, and you can hear the cheeping ducklings announcing, "Spring is here!"
Anne Rockwell and Holly Keller, two beloved children's book creators, team up to celebrate this season of growth.

A Wonderful Good Night, Sweet Dreams, Sleep Tight Book 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Marvelous Anne Rockwell again creates magic for toddlers and parents with her latest book, "Here Comes the Moon".Wonderful watercolor-like pictures of the sweetest little boy-ever cuddling with Mommy can make any night time Good-night special. Using rhymes and rhythms, this book may become the "Goodnight Moon" for a New Generation of Moms and Dads. Anne Rockwell must have spectacular children and Grandchildren --if they grew up reading her work, and learning about her art. I can't recommend this enough. My son, Jack at age 9 adored it...the little boy with the dog and fluffy slippers reminded him of himself, and his dog, Maggie, while he wears my fluffy MOOSE slippers! A book all Mothers and Sons will relate to! I wish more Rockwell Books made it to bookstore shelves. Thank Goodness for Libraries and Amazon.

Editorial Review:

Getting ready for bedtime, step by step

It’s bedtime for one little boy, and time to say good night. Even the next-door cat and Buster the dog are ready for sleep. Told from the point of view of a mother easing her child through the steps of bedtime, this comforting story is both timeless and universal. Anne Rockwell’s lyrical prose and colorful pictures make this a perfect book for sharing at night, over and over again.

According to Mayan legend, Chac is one of the gods of the sky who control rain, wind, thunder, and lighting. With his bottomless gourd of rain, his bag of winds, his booming drum, and his flashing ax, Chac is a mighty lord. But all his powers can't give him the patience to handle a mischievous mortal boy he plucks from the forest to be his servant. This particular boy rarely does what he's told on Earth, much less in the heavens...
