This book series is clever, and this installment upholds it's duty and more. Any true fan would love this book. This story is like the K and P books because it has two clear suspects and sticks to them. But get ready for a twist you won't soon forget and an ending you won't believe. I give it five shining stars.

fun little mystery 4 out of 5 stars.

A fun little mystery for kids, where the thief is the one not suspected until the last minute. The kid-detectives use realistic methods to get clues, and are able to catch the culprit with the help of their policeman-friend.

Editorial Review:

X is for X-RAY . . .

Dink, Josh, and Ruth Rose are having an excellent time at the Penelope Gwinn concert. But during intermission, Dink injures his arm! At the same time, the singer’s diamond necklace is stolen. Could the two mishaps somehow be connected? And could Dink’s X-ray be a clue? It’s up to the kids to examine the evidence and find out in this exciting yet easy-to-read chapter book mystery.

Fun Installment in a Solid Series 5 out of 5 stars.
14 of 14 people found this review helpful.

A new kid on the block (staying in Dink's house!), a little action (a kidnap!), a little language lesson (French!), and a lot of teamwork (involving both children, parents, and authority figures) leads to another intriguing tale and a happy ending. Ron Roy's A-To-Z-Mysteries have proven quite successful in our household. I've now read all eleven installments to my four-year-old son, and he has found them immensely entertaining. Similarly, our best friend's daughter, an advanced elementary school reader, promptly consumed these books and deemed them enjoyable. Sure, like most of the chapter book series for little people, the plots tend to be marginally predictable -- conversely, these books weren't written for the parents (and the children seem to find the mysteries sufficiently compelling). I also find that, at a certain level, the fact that the characters in these mysteries are (reasonably) normal children confronting seemingly pedestrian criminals is a welcome break from my son's fascination with the preternatural and his preference for the less realistic (but highly entertaining) series such as the Secrets of Droon, Bailey School Kids, and the Magic Tree House. Also, unlike many of the series books, it does not seem critical to read the books in order (although we do). It's also nice that the protagonists -- Dink, Ruth Rose, and Josh -- play well together, think through difficult problems, exhibit good manners and, for the most part, display the type of vocabulary you won't mind if your children repeat.

Editorial Review:

K is for Kidnapped! Someone has kidnapped the king and queen of Socotra. For safety's sake, their son is staying with Dink until they are safe. But then the prince is kidnapped, too! Can Dink, Josh, and Ruth Rose unmask the royals' enemies before it's too late? Or is the royal family of Socotra gone forever?

A Suprising Story to Read 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

This is a very good book with a nice ending. Unlike other books in this series this story surrounds a person instead of a crime. Even though this story is a little too complicated for kids six (6) and under, it overall is engrossing for others. From me, I give it four (4) stars, hey nothings perfect.

Good book series for pre-teens. 5 out of 5 stars.

My 8-year-old son has enjoyed this book series very much. The reading level is comfortably easy for him and he enjoys solving the mysteries. It keeps him reading and even teaches him some facts at the same time. I recommend this whole series.

Editorial Review:

V is for Vampire . . .
Grab your garlic, Green Lawn! When Dink, Josh, and Ruth Rose follow a pale, dark-haired stranger into Ellie’s Diner, he vanishes! But Ellie has a cut on her neck . . . or could it be a bite? Could there really be a vampire in Green Lawn? And could Dink, Josh, and Ruth Rose be his next victims?
“An appealing combination of intrigue, ingenuity, and good fun. A great recreational choice for newly independent readers.”—School Library Journal

Where is the Jaguar's Jewel??? 1 out of 5 stars.

I didn't like this book . I disliked it because it was not a good book for a fifth grader. It's a good book for a first or second grader. The illustrations were my favorite part. They almost looked like cartoons, though they were a lot better looking. The illustrations were very suitable for the story. As you read it, you can tell it's fantasy.

I loved it, 5 out of 5 stars.

Series Review 5 out of 5 stars.

The "A to Z Mysteries" is very good. The series is about 3 kids: Dink, Josh and Ruth Rose. The author is Ron Roy. The kids solve mysteries. Book 10, "The Jaguar's Jewel," Book J, is my favorite. It is about Dink, Josh, and Ruth Rose. They go to see a museum in Manhattan. There is a golden jaguar statue with gleaming red eyes. It has an emerald between its paws. Read the book to find out what else happens! The books are a little creepy. They have titles like "The Zombie Zone," and "The Deadly Dungeon."

Book J is my favorite because I love to go to museums. I enjoy this series because I have a Detective Agency. I enjoy my Agency.

Dink, Josh, and Ruth Rose visit New York City! Dink's uncle is the curator of a museum with a dazzling new treasure--a statue of a jaguar cradling an emerald between its front paws. But when it's discovered that the emerald has been replaced with a fake, Dink's uncle is the chief suspect. He'll go to jail if Dink, Josh, and Ruth Rose can't uncover the real thief!

Exciting mystery book about rare birds. The ending was less surprising then the prior for books in the series. The author introduced two new characters: Grace Lockwood and Doc Henry.

Birds and Pencils 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I liked the Falcon's Feather because Josh likes to draw the birds and I like to draw too. He likes birds and so do I. I like A to Z mysteries because you always have to find out who the criminal is. But I'm not going to tell you who the criminal is in this story! I'm in second grade and I think this book is really cool.

A to Z Mystery Series 4 out of 5 stars.

I am reading this entire series with my six year old son. He read the Absent Author in school and talked about it so much at home that we started buying all of the books. The reading level is above his abilities (1st grade), but it makes for a quick read together. Perfect length for reading a couple of chapters together before bed at night. He has passed each one on to a second grade friend who is reading through them on his own very quickly as well. It's a fun series with age appropriate material that my child and I both can enjoy together.

I wish I could win a seven million dollar lottery ticket for my very own. If you would like to win a lottery ticket, you will sure like this book, because the three best detectives in the whole wide world are in this book and they catch a real lottery ticket thief! The book is also set in winter, many kids favorite time of the year. Although my favorite A to Z Mystery book is The Absent Author, I think this one is pretty good, and I think you'll like it too.

We really liked this book (Mom included). Josh, Dink and Ruth Rose worked well together to solve this mystery and catch the thief. We were all surprised about the ending. We wish we could cross-country ski all over our town! Ron Roy's stories always entertain us and we can't wait to get the next in the series - The Missing Mummy.

Overall, Dink, Josh, and Ruth Rose's 25th adventure was exciting to read. I thought that the details were too sparse in some parts but that was made up for by the adventureous and mysterious parts.
Yellow Yacht was one of the best books in the A to Z Mysteries series in my opinion.

Ron Roy paints a coulourful picture of mystery & suspense about 3 friends who go to a dude ranch and discover that someone steals the gold nugget they found. They spend the week panning for gold, chasing down clues and narrowing down the suspects, all guests at the dude ranch.
The story is interesting, but the plot was not all that believable, as it is unlikely that three 8-year-olds could catch a world-renown thief. Although this book is written for a slightly younger reader, mystery stories are always fun and enjoyable. I give this book 4 stars out of 5, because it was a bit slow to start off, but as the story developed, I found myself sitting on the edge of my seat, waiting to find out what would happen next

What is orange and eats oranges? 5 out of 5 stars.

And what steals famous paintings while eating those oranges?

That is the question the three children in this book have to answer.

The three children in this book exhibit the positive traits you would want your child to emulate. They solve problems and they are still realistic enough that your child will enjoy reading about them.

These are quick reads directed towards the 8-10 year old child with a reading level of about 3rd or 4th grade (at the highest).

This one was a very creative story with a creative solution.

The year of the Zombie 5 out of 5 stars.
11 of 11 people found this review helpful.

The sad and tragic tale of Simon William Garth, the Zombie, started in the fifties when comic book legends Stan Lee and Bill Everett created the undead character for Atlas's horror comic Menace. Newsstands were flooded with a wave of horror titles like Tales from the Crypt, Black Cat, Weird and Dick Briefer's horrific classic The Monster of Frankenstein. All of which fell victim of the newly instated Comic Code Authority. The Authority imposed a list of inflexible self-regulations, devised by the Association of Comic Magazine, in an attempt to fend off any future government involvement in the comic field. The hysteria was caused when a Senate subcommittee, taking the cue from Dr. Fredric Wertham's comic bashing book, Seduction of the Innocent, held hearings to determine if the rise in juvenile delinquency could be linked to extreme depictions of sadism, horror, sex, and crime bannered in the comics of the day. It worked - no government censorship, but with stringent rules like, "No comic magazine shall use the word horror or terror in its title," the Code all but decimated the war, horror and crime comics. The Zombie "slept" for twenty years.

Then, trying to cash in on the monster boom of the sixties and seventies, as well as the success of Warren's black and white horror comic magazines Creepy and Eerie, Marvel Comics launched a wave of monster titles in both comic and magazine form. Mummies, werewolves, vampires and even Satan's son mingled with Spider-man and the Hulk at the newsstand. The Zombie is quickly resurrected.

The pathos-fueled comic tells the tale of coffee plantation owner Simon Garth, who has the misfortune of being selected to become a human sacrifice for a mysterious Voodoo cult comprised mostly from his workers. But as fate would have it, the leader of the cult, the beautiful Priestess Layla, falls in love with Garth and changes him into a zombie instead. While Layla and her creepy grandfather searches for a way to change him back to normal, the undead Garth, like all Marvel monsters, finds himself in a world of supernatural danger and adventure.

Essential Tales Of The Zombie is a fun collection filled with great artwork and intriguing storylines and is a must have for fans of gruesome zombie comic collections like Zombie Factory: 27 Tales of Bizarre Comix Madness from Beyond the Tomb or The Zombie Survival Guide: Complete Protection from the Living Dead.

Editorial Review:

Jaded by heroes who come back from the dead? Meet the hero who started there and stayed there! His stare's the only thing that's empty about the adventures of Simon Garth through mad science and madder magic! Terrors criminal, corporate and just plain creepy reprinted for the first time in more than a quarter-century! Collects stories from Tales of the Zombie #1-10; Dracula Lives #1-2.
