Comic books rule for Skipper especially THE MASKED MUTANT. Little did he know that he was becoming a comic book character.

Skipper, Here. 5 out of 5 stars.

"Hey, uh, Skipper here. I need someone's help. I have no clue what to believe: my comic books or my very own eyes. I thought I just saw The Masked Mutant's Lair, or is it just some phony replica? It better be, because if the The Masked Mutant is real, I'm in for it big time..."

Editorial Review:

He's no superhero.... He's a supervillain! Skipper Matthews has an awesome comic book collection. His favorite one is called The Masked Mutant. It's about an evil supervillain who's out to rule the universe! Skipper can't get enough of The Mutant. Until one day he gets lost in a strange part of town. And finds a building that looks exactly like The Mutant's secret headquarters. A building that appears and disappears! Has Skipper read one too many comic books? Or does The Masked Mutant really live in Riverview Falls?

Good for SAT, but not the original version of Frankenstein 3 out of 5 stars.
17 of 17 people found this review helpful.

I ordered this book to use with my AP Literature class. I was already teaching Frankenstein, and thought that my students would really benefit from the extra SAT study as well. However, as we are going through the book, I find that the story in this book is very different from the old copies I had always taught from. Key parts of the story are changed, and many of the parts are rearranged. If you are looking for an accurate version of Mary Shelley's story, this may not be the one for you.

Inaccurate and misleading 1 out of 5 stars.

We purchased this book to use in our accelerated curriculum since we have a substantial vocabulary unit connected to Frankenstein. However, a few days into the book, we are noticing major departures from Mary Shelley's novel. Kaplan has irresponsibly marketed this book as if it is the original version.

I loved this book!! I couldn't put it down! It's a love story with a murder mystery, and it keeps you on the edge of your seat. You don't know what she's going to do ,and keeps you guessing until the very last page! The beginig is kind of slow, but everything picks up after immedeatly. Wish everybody could read it.Wish I could give it more stars than this!!

both sides of time 4 out of 5 stars.

Both sides of time is about a young girl who lives in the 1900's but is taken back in time to the 1890's. When she goes back in time she falls in love with a boy and has a romantic relationship with him. But they both have a big problems they can't have a relationship because they live in totally different times. Not only that they both have other people that they once loved.
I really thought this book was very good I enjoyed it a lot. It is actually one of my most favorite books. The author is a great writer she did a wonderful job describing things in the book. You would think it would be hard to understand certain things in the book having it cast in a totally different time but the way the author words things it helps you to understand the book well. Another thing I thought was great about this book is it is not very hard to read actually not hard at all. It was actually fun to read you just always wanted to know what is going to happen next. I never wanted to put the book down. Another great thing about the book is that you learn quite a bit about the 1800's I learned a lot of new things I didn't know. So not only is it fun to read you also learn! One reason I think I liked the book is because it related to me it was about a girl a little bit older than me but I still had things that I could relate with her. I think this book is mainly written for girls because it has quite a bit of romance in it but I guess it wouldn't be too bad if a boy wanted to read it. Not only does the book have some romance it also has mystery and a little suspense to it. The only thing that is kind of bad is at the end. You want to know what is going to happen but that actually that is not a bad thing at all that just means I need to read the sequel!
I would encourage anyone that wants to read a romance story to read Both Sides of Time and hopefully you will enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed it!

A great classic-- but will a 17-year-old enjoy it? 4 out of 5 stars.
14 of 14 people found this review helpful.

I am an SAT tutor and believe that this is one of the most valuable books of its type a student preparing for the test can read. Unfortunately, in my experience, students also find this one of the least enjoyable books. Why is it valuable?
There are 2 major areas that a student must master to improve scores on the SAT Critical Reading section: (1) Vocabulary. (2) Understanding of complex sentence structures. This book provides a student with both. (1) SAT words are bolded, their definitions conveniently located on the facing page. (2) Sentence structure is complex and the book is written in "older" English which is partly a result of the era it was written in. The college board knows this and even suggests that students read books written before 1900. The complex sentences and old language may be reasons students do not put The Scarlet Letter on their Top 10 Favorite Books List, but it does not take away from the book's value-- if you can get your child to read it.

Kindness Goes a Long Way 4 out of 5 stars.
7 of 8 people found this review helpful.

In this story, there is a very selfish giant. He hates kids and won't let them play in his garden. This causes spring not to come. This goes on for years; no children playing, no spring. Finally, one day, many many years later, the children just play in the garden without permission, and spring comes. All of the kids are climbing trees, except for one little boy. Something amazing happens, but you have to read the story to find out what it is.
I think this story is trying to teach us that kindness goes a long way. If you are mean and grumpy all the time, you will have no joys in your life now, or even after death. If you are nice, loving, and caring, that will go along way, and you will be rewarded for that later. Everyone should remember, what you do now, will eventually come back to you, in some way or form. Treat others how you wanted to be treated back.

Editorial Review:

A once selfish giant welcomes the children to his previously forbidden garden and is eventually rewarded by an unusual little child.

Fun! 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

What a great idea to assemble scifi icons from Star Trek to perform various H.G. Wells's classics! Of the works they've performed are: The Invisible Man, The Time Machine, The First Men in the Moon, and Journey to the Center of the Earth.

This audio recording of The Invisible Man was easy listening, and fun too. It's definitely worth a listen. I'm going to have to check out the others!

One side note, obviously the original work was abridged and adapted for audio drama. You'll still want to read the classic.

Editorial Review:

Griffin, the Promethean hero of The Invisible Man (1897), is one of Wells's most striking and tragic conceptions--a scientist whose apparently omnipotent power of passing unseen among his fellow humans rebounds on him as a terrible curse. From its opening in a small village inn, the narrative moves inexorably towards a climax of terror as the whole of England unites to hunt down and destroy the invisible alien. The Introduction examines not only the many imitations, but also Wells's own skillful blending of contemporary scientific ideas and chilling Gothic effects.

"How Come I've Never Seen You Before?" 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Hannah Fairchild has a new neighbor. No big deal right? Well, the problem is that when he moved in she never saw a moving truck, and she lives right next door! When Danny (the new neighbor) moved in, everything got really weird. Everytime Hannah talkes to him he dissapers. To top it all off, a strange shadow figure is following Hannah and knows her name. Can Hannah's new neighbor be the ghost next door?

scary but cool at the same time! 5 out of 5 stars.

I LOVE the series Goosebumps. I think think this is the best Goosebump book I have ever read. This book is about a girl named Hannah that has nothing to do over The long boring summer because all of her friends have gone away on vacation or to summer camp. This book has the coolest lead. Hannah is supposedly having this dream that her whole house was on fire! When Hannah wakes up she went outside to get her bike. A boy crashes into her They talk for a while. He says that he moved into the house in the middle of the night. Hannah thinks it is a little strange that nobody saw him. Is Hannah being haunted by the " The Ghost Next Door?"

Editorial Review:

When an odd new boy moves in next door, Hannah's neighborhood starts to get more and more eerie, and she suspects that the pale boy must be a ghost.
