Bigger pictures would have been better 4 out of 5 stars.

I bought this book for my 5 year old son -- who looooves bionicles. He loves to create the bionicles in the book, however the pictures are small so it makes a bit harder. He does love to listen to the descriptions of all the bionicles. Only complaint -- larger pictures would have been better.

Bionicle Encyclopedia 3 out of 5 stars.

Good book. The pictures of the bionicles in the encyclopedia could be bigger. They are very hard to see.

Lots of extra info to read about these characters Mom finds odd, but sons LOVE! :-) Pictures are, as they tell me, "WAY cool!"

A Fitting End. For Now. 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Oh. My. God.

Those words...Those words are all I can say. This book finally has the Toa Nuva, Takanuva, and the Toa Ignika reunite in the Swamp of Secrets. And as they enter the Codrex, they see the truth of how to awaken Mata Nui. They find threee vehicles, one stolen by a Makuta, and Lewa and Pohatu follow him on the others. Takanuva, meanwhile, has found a way to save the Shadow Matoran, and succesfully leads the newly saved Av-Matoran to Metru Nui.

As Toa Ignika sacrifices his energy to awake the Great Spirit, becoming a mask yet again, a terrible storm erupts in Karda Nui, killing anything and everything. The Toa Nuva escape with mere seconds to spare, and return to a great party in Metru Nui's Coliseum, with characters from all over the world joining in. But a dark wind blows past, the stars rearrange themselves into a constellation of despair, and a dark secret is revealed. And as the people of the Matoran universe realize what has happened, Makuta Teridax's laugh echoes all around.

But hope is not lost. As the Mask of Life hurtles through space, leaving the planet we've been on since 2001, a voice speaks up from inside it. None have heard this voice in 1,000 years but they'd immediantly know who speaks it. It says but once simple sentence:
"I shall return."

It was awesome. And I can't wait for the new direction the story will be going in 2009! A neqw planet, new characters! Bara Magna, here we come!

Editorial Review:

When this final battle is over, everything in the BIONICLE universe will have changed forever.

The Toa Nuva face off against the Brotherhood of Makuta in a final battle to awaken the Great Spirit Mata Nui. But when the battle is over, the Toa make a terrible discovery: Makuta has taken over Mata Nui's body and Mata Nui has disappeared. Makuta promises the Toa that they will never find him or know a minute's peace again.

I like it because it has plenty of information about the Bionicle world. It tells you the name of old and new islands along with its history and map. I recommend this book for bionicle fans.

Very Helpful 5 out of 5 stars.

My child is a Bionicle fan, and very smart, but a reluctant reader. When he has something well-written on a topic he's interested in, he eats it up. This book was great for helping interest my child in reading. I plan to buy more similar items in the near future.

Good book for anyone who likes Bionicle. 4 out of 5 stars.

Under the sea is fun for Bionicle-lovers 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This Bionicle book is a good latest edition to the series. My 9 year old got this on Christmas morning and blazed through it before brunch. He liked this as an ending to the underwater storyline and then how they foreshadowed to the next sky-based storyline. He enjoys taking details from the book to give his Lego characters more "life" when he plays with them. There is an undersea mob of creatures that was a little scary but not too bad. I think it is on par with the usual Bionicle books.

Ultimate Sacrifice 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is remarkable in many ways, not the least of which is its mythological ties. This book has one of the greatest Jesus stories of our time, retold with fantasy and science fiction, to bring relevance to the ancient stories of our past.

Editorial Review:

Deep in the underwater world known as the pit, the Toa must battle the Barraki in a final showdown. At stake is the future of their world. If they fail, there is no world . . . and even if they succeed, nothing is certain.

Finally! The collected Bionicle Tales. 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Who doesn't have a young teen boy these days that hasn't heard the words "Toa Nuva", "Bionicle", and "Masks" in the same sentence? On our bookshelves, guardian bionicles stand watch over slumbering children, waiting for the dreaded enemies of the Toa Nuva (probably new warriors in some lego language).

The toys are very cool. What was once Johnny West, Batman, or Spiderman is now full poseable, fully changeable, and the dynamics of the body structure are such that these 'toys' could even be our bodies in mechanical form! My eyes don't usually glow, and my hands are digitized, but movement wise, they are magical.

Just like this book, collecting the Lego magazine stories, there is a sense of completeness about the story now. Whenever I read the Lego installments, I always thought that it was time for a collection. Papercutz has a remarkable reputation for quality books printed on quality paper, and is a natural choice for such a property.

The team of Greg Farshtey, Carlos D'Anda, and Randy Elliot have created a world around the characters that is very cool. The setting is other worldly, but the battle for survival is no different than any humans have endured. This is no 'band of brothers', but it is a 'band of others'.

The arrival of Makuta on the Island of Mata Nui signaled the transformation of Nui into a place of evil. The Tohunga wait for salvation, and six arrive who control the forces of nature to help them find it. Collect the masks, and defeat the Makuta no matter what the cost.

The art and color in the books is amazing. D'Anda and Elliot have captured the feel of the characters beautifully. The challenge of illustrating any book with non humanoid features is to make them 'real' and the artists have done that very well. I can imagine their studio. Shelves filled with BIONICLES in various poses, giant boxes of LEGO waiting for construction. How do they ever get any work done?

Read in short installments, these stories made little sense. Now that Papercutz has collected the episodes, the story is clear, and even for adults who have had to learn new words in a new language, the story of the Bionicles has just become more interesting.

Editorial Review:

Six mighty heroes – the Toa – arrive on a tropical island to find a land under siege. The Great Spirit Mata Nui has been cast into an unending sleep by the evil Makuta. Now Makuta is attacking the island’s Matoran villagers with vicious Rahi beasts. The Toa must combine their skills and elemental and mask powers to defeat Makuta and restore peace to the island.

In the second story, The Toa return to the island named for Mata Nui to find it is being overrun by mechanical insects called Bohrok. These Bohrok have been unleashed by Makuta and are rapidly destroying trees, mountains, rivers, villages and anything else in their path. After a long, difficult battle, the Toa are able to defeat the queens of the swarms and end the Bohrok threat … for now. During the fight, the heroes are transformed into Toa Nuva, with new armor, new weapons, and new Masks of Power.

Simply put, Bionicle is the new introduction to mythology for kids, and those select adults who haven't denied imagination. Throughout the entire universe of Bionicle, countless mythological motifs appear, proving that the stories still apply.

the mystery deepens 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

My 8-year-old son is a big fan of the bionicle toys and I think his initial interest had a lot to do with the bionicle books series. I'm sure many people look at these books as just a marketing ploy, but they are so much more than that. A rich history, full of mystery, adventure and action have been brought to life in all of the bionicle series. The "Legends" series is no exception. Our copies of "Power Play" and "Dark Destiny" arrived the day before we left for San Diego to visit Legoland. My son brought them on the plane along with his gameboy. He became so engrossed in the books that the gameboy didn't get any play! He read straight through! A few weeks later I picked up the books and found out for myself why. The story of the Toa, Matoran, Inika, and Piraka is fantastic. This series is by far more involved than any of the past Bionicle book series. By the end of "Power Play" I was thirsting for more and once through "Dark Destiny" could not wait for the next book to see what was going to happen! I highly recommend the books for boys and girls alike, particularly if they are in to the bionicles. Even if they are not big readers, the interest in the stories will convert them!

Editorial Review:

Six new heroes, the Toa Inika, have arrived on the besieged island of Voya Nui in search of the missing Toa Nuva. What they find instead are the vicious Piraka and a desperate Matoran resistance fighting for freedom. But when four of the Piraka steal the power of the mighty Brutaka, Toa Jaller and his team must fight for their very lives against evil unbound.
