Beautiful Series 5 out of 5 stars.

This is a terrific series that I, as well as my 9 yr old son, really enjoyed reading. My son is a big reader of fantasy and I liked it that this book presents some deeper issues very thoughtfully, something that many books of this genre for this age group do not do. It was a good family read.

Wonderful story! 5 out of 5 stars.

I bought this book for my 8 yr old son. He absolutely loved it! And I thought it taught some very real life truths for 8yr old boys. We will definitely be ordering the remainder of the series.

Great fantasy and lessons for any age 4 out of 5 stars.

Admittedly, I had trouble going about beginning to read this. I am a huge fan of Deltora and feared that nothing else would measure up.But here we meet Rowan, a sweet young boy with whom young readers will identify. Rather than the sweeping imagination of other books, Rodda provides a satisfying adventure to save a small village. This is a character-driven tale of personal growth, a classic underdog story told in Rodda's simple-but-enchanting style.

Editorial Review:

Bravest heart will carry on when sleep is death, and hope is gone.

Rowan doesn't believe he has a brave heart. But when the river that supports his village of Rin runs dry, he must join a dangerous journey to its source in the forbidden Mountain. To save Rin, Rowan and his companions must conquer not only the Mountain's many tricks, but also the fierce dragon that lives at its peak.

Awesome series for 8 year old! 4 out of 5 stars.

This is a great series for kids to follow-up on the first one (Rowan of Rin). This is about the travelers who come to the valley of Rin once every two years to trade. The people of Rin think that the travelers have put a spell on them. So it is about Rowan's journey to find out if the travelers actually are putting a spell on Rin. Rowan and his friend go to a place and get the answer within Pit of Unrin, with a used to be Zebak, (Zebak is a hated tribe) who now is a traveler name Zeel. I learned not everything is what it seems. I hope this book is good for you too. (Ruth H. C. with grownup help.)

Editorial Review:

The secret enemy is here.
It hides in darkness,
fools beware!

A mysterious danger threatens Rowan's village, Rin. But who is the enemy? And what is the strange spell that is putting all the townspeople to sleep?

The Travelers, a roaming people who are friends of Rin, might be able to help, but Rowan isn't sure he can trust them. Especially since they tell him that to find the answers to Rin's problems, Rowan must go to the legendary, noxious Pit of Unrin, from which no living thing has ever returned.

Not slowing at all 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

The "Rowan of Rin" series is one of the best book series out there for the who are not yet ready for the Prydain Chronicles or "The Hobbit." In the third story, "Rowan and the Keeper of the Crystal," we get more of a glimpse of this beautiful and dangerous world and the diverse people who inhabit it.

Rowan is stunned when the fishlike Maris folk summon his mother Jiller to the Cavern of the Crystal, there to choose a new Keeper. For reasons too complex to summarize, the Maris clans require an outsider to choose their Keeper, who helps protect them from the savage Zebak warriors. Jiller is the latest in a long line of Choosers, and Rowan will be her successor.

But upon arriving at the Cavern, Jiller is mysteriously poisoned. But after Rowan is appointed the new Chooser, he refuses to choose any of the three candidates until they help him find the ingredients for the antidote. The three set off on their quest -- but Rowan begins to wonder which of the three poisoned Jiller, and what motives are behind it.

As in the previous two books, Emily Rodda creates a believable world without the usual fantasy trappings like elves and wizards. The mystery surrounding Jiller's poisoning and the question of who would be chosen to be Keeper -- and why -- remains a question until the penultimate chapter, and events near them hint at the fourth book. The writing is beautifully descriptive without being too much so, and the dialogue is growing more realistic with every new book.

Rowan shows some personal growth since the first book, where he was outstandingly timid; here he is more self-assertive and confident, even when surrounded by strangers, and even defies the Keeper in an effort to save his mother. Jiller and Jonn (now formally engaged) are fairly nebulous. The three candidates are sufficiently defined that they don't blend together, especially Doss, who has a secret; Seaborn, who inexplicably doesn't like being a candidate; and Asha, who adheres viciously to how she thinks the world should work.

"Keeper of the Crystal" is an excellent young kids' fantasy, something for them either to read themselves or be read to at bedtime. Excellent second sequel.

Editorial Review:

Rowan and his mother have been called to Maris to choose the new Keeper of the seaside village's precious Crystal, a dangerous task Rowan's family has been bound to for generations.

But this time, something goes terribly wrong. Rowan's mother is poisoned and near death, and Rowan must find the antidote, outwit a deadly sea serpent, and pick a new Keeper -- before it's too late.

Annad! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

When a huge beast sent from the Zebak kidnaps Rowan's little sister, Annad, Rowan immediately leaves Rin to rescue her. Three of his most trusted companions accompany him, as they cross the sea, and a great desert to get to the Zebak city. When they finally arrive, many surprises await them, and Zeel, the Zebak foundling raised by the Travelers, is haunted by her past. Then they are captured, and Zeel is involved. Will they ever leave the city alive, and what will happen to Annad. Rin prepares for an attack, but when it comes they are all surprised.

Rowan of Rin #4 Rowan and the Zebak 5 out of 5 stars.

I originally purchased the Rowan of Rin series for my daughter but soon found myself wrapped up in the story of young Rowan and looked forward to bedtime so we could read some more! We both enjoyed the books and hope Emily Rodda plans to continue the series.

Editorial Review:

When a flying monster kidnaps Rowan's little sister, Annad, Rowan fears the warlike Zebak people have attacked his village of Rin. And Annad's capture is only the beginning.

Now Rowan and his companions must make the treacherous journey into Zebak territory, fighting the monsters that guard its city and the enemy people within it. If they fail, Annad will be lost -- and so will all hope for the survival of Rin.

A close to the series 5 out of 5 stars.

Not filled with quite as much excitement as I hoped - but sufficient! Winters in Rin have been growing steadily colder and longer, and now it is too cold too bear. Rin moves down to the coast, leaving a few behind. Rowan begins another quest, this time to banish the evil Ice Creepers and warm the land once more. He and two others follow the Bukshah through the mountain, discovering evil things. Finally they discover the secret of the Mountain - and another one as well, one concerning the ancestry of the people of Rin.

Gripping 5 out of 5 stars.

The auther put thought into the characters and the Ice Creepers. Most of this book is placed in the mountains near the city of Rin. The characters were well written u really got a feel for the characters. Rowan of the Bukshaw its definitely well put in this story his journey you really get the feeling that you are in the story feeling his pain. Feel his love for his friends and the hate for the Ice Creepers.

personally this book was great and its the best book that i've read in a while. this book i could read it over and over and still be interested.

Editorial Review:
