Mouse loves baking in his little house. Today he's baking the best mouse cookie.

He starts with flour, salt and a little music. Pretty soon, he adds a dash of a nap.

Oh no. A nap!
Mouse has a surprise waiting for him in the kitchen. He doesn't mind, though. He's a happy mouse and he likes to bake.

Mouse is a wonderful character for children. He has a lesson for them in this tale about friendship but does it in such a subtle way.

The Best Mouse Cookie is "An If You Give" book. Mouse is no stranger to children who follow the series of books. He's a loveable little guy and the stories are laugh outloud funny and downright cute for young children.

We like this book a lot 4 out of 5 stars.

Do not buy this book expecting the same hilarious adventures of "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie". The same little rodent is featured, and the illustrations are excellent, but the action almost exclusively concerns the mouse's solitary baking. It is a short board book meant for the younger crowd and is entertaining, but it is strangely disjointed, particularly when one considers the fluid antics of the earlier books -- a fine introduction to the Numeroff-Bond books, but this one will not have the same staying power.

My youngest is 2 years old and has this book memorized. He pretends to "read" it word for word including "written by Laura Numeroff, Illustrated by Felicia Bond." Excellent introduction for young children to get involved/interested in reading.

I did buy this book thinking it was going to be like the other books in the series. My 2 year old and I were both disappointed. It is a cute book, but considering my daughter was already enjoying the longer books in the series, this one was just not as entertaining.

"If You Give a T-Rex a Bone" is all about a little boy who learns about different dinosaurs. He was being chased by a T-Rex so he gave a T-Rex a bone. This made the T-Rex mad so the little boy hid in the bushes. Then he was found by a dimetrodon, and when he went to escape that dinosaur, he encountered another one. This book takes us all through dinosaurs and what they ate and what they were like.

This book is very similar to the "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" books and I liked that. It is a fun way to tell a story and keeps things moving. At the end of this book the author gives pictures and information about dinosaurs and some other books and websites to learn more. I think that is a good idea for anyone who reads this book and wants to know more about the dinosaurs. "If You Give a T-Rex a Bone" was a fun and educational book to read.

This is one that I ran across at the public library. The teacher in me loves that it has number words, color words, and rhyming words. My kids (boys- ages 4 and nearly 6)love the story, the illustrations, and the humor. From "One giant monster wears a dress, eats the couch, and makes a mess" to "Twenty hungry monsters with nothing left to chew. Better close this book up tight...Before they chew on YOU!" A really cute book!

My kids love this book, and when I read it to my 4 year old's preschool class, they went nuts! They ALL loved it! I'm buying it for his preschool teacher for xmas.

Simply written and very nicely illustrated by Andy Holmes, If You Give A Girl A Bible is an entertaining picturebook that is as inspired as it is inspiring. When a young girl is given a Bible, she learns that it is a great source of ideas about helping others -- including pets as well as people! If You Give A Girl A Bible showcases great good humor with an enduring message for young readers ages 4 to 6 that God is watching over us when one else is there. But parents be forewarned -- reading this book may result in children asking for a Bible of their own!!

I love this book. As full time children and family evangelists we travel around the country and offer this book for sale at our resource table and it consistanly sells out! The illustrations are fantastic. It's a book you and your children will read over and over again. I DO and I'm 48!

Humorous Message Promotes Importance of the Bible for Kids 5 out of 5 stars.

On the surface, hot tubs, red Kool Aid, iguanas and shish-kebabs may not seem the perfect enticements towards promoting Bible reading for young children, but a reading of Andy Holmes newest book If You Give a Boy a Bible (Kregel Kidzone, May 2004, hardcover, 32 pages) shows that you can't make assumptions when it comes to kids.

Author and Illustrator Andy Holmes takes a humorous approach towards evangelization with this book, which is loosely reminiscent of the classic If You Give a Moose a Muffin. The opening pages of the story find a father sharing the Bible with his son and in turn taking time to read it with him. From here, the true action of the book begins as this gift leads to all kinds of imaginative thoughts. As the boy learns stories from the Bible, he begins to act out the accounts in his own little world.

Sprinkled throughout the book are references to classic Old Testament accounts. Readers will love how the boy absorbs and then finds his own take on the stories of Noah, Joseph, Moses and others. Holmes illustrations lend life to the story - I was particularly drawn to the variety of facial expressions in the book.

The book's end finds the boy sharing the gift he's received and loved so much with a friend. This gentle approach to witnessing to our faith will make sense to kids - who wouldn't want to share a gift that brings so much wisdom, enlightenment and fun? If You Give a Boy a Bible is aimed at children ages four through eight years of age, but I'm willing to predict that most grown ups will learn a thing or two from this enjoyable book.

Editorial Review:

Red punch, tubas blasting and iguanas. While they might seem unrelated to the Bible, this book gathers them together and, between snickers, there's a serious message of how kids can pass along the message of Jesus.

The set was given to us as a gift a few years ago and our kids have enjoyed it so much that we have worn out a couple of the pages! With favorite recipes like M&M cookies included in this book, be sure to keep it on hand for easy access. The mouse cookie cutter is cute but even cuter is the little story done in pictures throughout the book and it's recipes. Kids will revisit the mouse and the boy from the original "If you give a mouse a cookie" book, in another story about baking cookies. This will grow to be a favorite book, not just a recipe book...we "read" it for our bedtime story tons of times!
