Fifth-grader Nolan Byrd has suffered at the hands of school bully Bubba Bixby for too long. Inspired by a class project, Nolan (a.k.a "Byrd-the-Nerd") creates a "cyber-superhero" alter ego called Shredderman, and sets out to avenge himself and his fellow Bubba-sufferers. Our likeable but nerdly and put-upon protagonist spots his shot at redemption when Mr. Green (Nolan's pony-tailed teacher, a.k.a. "the Happy Hippie") assigns the class's monthly project: Students must create a newspaper page, complete with stories and photos, on a topic of their choice. In a flash, Nolan realizes he has the perfect subject: "I had an idea that would make Bubba Bixby sorry he'd ever called us names. Or swiped our stuff. Or breathed his trashy breath down our throats. I’d do my report on Bubba Bixby!" Shortly thereafter Shredderman is born, and Nolan springs into action, armed with a computer, a cleverly concealed digital camera, and his own top-secret Web page, Shredderman.com, "where truth and justice prevail!"

Wendelin Van Draanen, author of How I Survived Being a Girl, and the super-cool Sammy Keyes mysteries series, has all sorts of fun here, taking a traditional bully-comeuppance tale and adding some high-tech cyber twists. Her descriptions prove as playful as ever, "Bubba Bixby's got rocky knuckles. People who like mysteries will find this book mysterious. Wendlin Van Draanen writes his second book, Attack of the Tagger! The main characters of this book are Nolan (A.K.A Shredderman), Nolan's parents,and Ryan Voss. The problems in Attack of the Tagger are when Nolan(A.K.A Shredderman)was trying to trap the tagger but the tagger was trying to pin the blame on Nolan(A.K.A Shredderman). The setting of this book takes place in Ceder Valley,California.

In the beginning of the story Nolan(A.K.A Shredderman) was spying in the bathroom at school and saw Carl Blanco, Manny Davis, A.J Penne, and Ryan Voss talking about the graffiti showing up on cars, and Nolan thought it was one of them doing it. Next,the police found more graffiti in the park at night and Nolan and his dad went to look. When Nolan got home he found out who the real person was, who was doing the graffiti. The closest person was Ryan Voss, the principal's son. To find out who really did the graffiti go to your nearest library or book store and get the book.

The theme in this book is don't damage other people's things. This book remindes me of graffiti writing on buildings or signs. Boys in 3rd-5th grade will love this book.

Shredderman succeeds in turning reluctant readers into fans! 5 out of 5 stars.

I am always trying to find books for my reluctant reader 9 year old. I found this book (actually the first in the series) on a list of "best books" created by kids. It is a winner! The level is good for 2nd to 4th grade.

We absolutely loved these books. My son is almost 10 and we read them togehter, Although these are very easy reading for my son's age, we read them together because we enjoy them more that way. We both laughed out loud and really got into the stories. Often we ended up missing the absolute, latest possible bedtime curfew because we just HAD to read on! We would be very interested in other books by this author -- although it seems that her others are geared toward girl readers.

But some problems are too big for even a superhero to handle. Sometimes the mask gets in the way. Will Nolan's quest for truth and justice mean he has to give up his secret identity? Can he become a superhero in real life?
