THE HISTORIC SAGA BEGINS

Born in the twilight years of Vulcan's violent and passionate past, those who declared themselves Rihannsu chose to reign free in the unknown reaches of space rather than to serve under the new tyranny of logic. Having severed themselves from their homeworld, they survived the perilous voyage across the stars to wash ashore on a distant planet, there to begin the civilization that would one day flower into the Romulan Star Empire.

Now, after millennia of wars and conquests, that empire is decaying from within, surrendering its noble heritage to reckless ambition, abandoning honor for kidnapping and murder. The corruption is so great that the Rihannsu's finest military officer -- Commander Ael t'Rllaillieu of the warbird Bloodwing -- believes she can save her people only by joining forces with her greatest enemy: Captain James T. Kirk of the Starship Enterprise™.

Meanwhile, on the Romulan homeworld, a Federation deep-cover agent has been posing as a household servant named Arrhae i-Khellian -- but her operation takes a strange turn when a captured Starfleet officer is brought to her home . . .

The lives of Ael, Arrhae, and the crew of the Enterprise come together in these astonishing adventures -- originally published in four volumes: My Enemy, My Ally; The Romulan Way; Swordhunt; and Honor Blade -- that will challenge everything you thought you knew about the Romulans.

Short and Sweet 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Only 200 pages so it's a fast read, and introduces the future world of SeaQuest better than the TV show, as the narrative can get around the curse of stilted expositional dialogue. The technical aspects are much more detailed in the show, so you get some neat gimmicks explained.

The story itself is OK, Bridger and the motivation of enemy commander Marilyn Stark are explored in the most depth. The reluctance of Bridger to command drags on a bit, though.

If you enjoyed the pilot, this will add a bit more depth to the background of the show.

entertaining! 4 out of 5 stars.

I Really enjoyed this book since I actully missed the 1st episode and this was a great way for me to see how the show got started.I keep this book in my room always. I read it when I don't or can't find any thing else better to read.

Editorial Review:

From the television event of the year, Steven Spielberg's seaQuest. The year is 2018, and the world's oceans are the last frontiers on Earth. The last hope for peace is the largest, most powerful submarine ever built, the seaQuest--an undersea research ship. But there are unknown dangers on the ocean floor. . . .

an unique must-read for any Klingon fan. 5 out of 5 stars.

It's spellbinding.

Peter Morwood has woven a fine book based on the critically-acclaimed Final Reflection.

There's no better sequel to John M. Ford's Final Reflection than this book.

Editorial Review:

Rules of Engagement

A sudden revolution on the planet Dekkanar brings Captain Kirk and the U.S.S. Enterprise™ running to evacate Federation personnel trapped there. But their orders from Starfleet are quite clear; the U.S.S. Enterprise is to assist in the evacuation, no more. No weapons are to be displayed, no shields raised, no shots fired.

Meanwhile, halfway across the galaxy, an experimental Klingon warship sets forth on a mission of its own, a warship with hidden -- and heretofore undreamed of -- capabilities, commanded by a warrior who will stop at nothing to bring glory to his Empire -- and restore his own lost honor.

the Klingon ship's destination? The planet Dekkanar...

It's a Western... On Mars! 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

It's supposed to be a nice quiet vacation on Mars. Then someone starts shooting.

The third book in the Space Cops series has officers O'Bannion and Glyndower looking for a stolen Solar Patrol Communications Array. Their search takes them from the lawless mining towns of Mars, to an all out battle with a fanatical (and well armed) fringe group called the Red Dawn. This book is a quick, fun read with an exciting and memorable final battle.

Red Dawn seems to be a common name... 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Space Cops High Moon is the last in the series. And that makes me sad, because I feel it was just starting to get great. In this novel the two Solar Police Officers, Joss O'Bannion and Evan Glyndower, are trying to find some lost equipment on Mars and run into something bigger and more dangerous than anything they have ever had to deal with before.
Tons of humor and action, jokes about manga and classical TV series such as Dr. WHO?, quotes from Monty Python and True Grit. Think High Noon with lasers and air tight space suits. The science is slightly hard as with the rest of the books but the focus is still on the cool characters and swiftly moving plot.

Editorial Review:

Holding the tool of chaos--a decoder prototype they stole from the Solar Patrol, thus making this security apparatus of the elite interplanetary peacekeeping force ineffective--a radical band of space outlaws known as The Red Dawn plans destruction.

Review of "The Romulan Way". 4 out of 5 stars.
5 of 7 people found this review helpful.

This book is the second of a (thus far) four book "series" by the same author involving related plotlines and characters. The first is "Star Trek #18: My Enemy, My Ally", the third is "Star Trek #95: Swordhunt", and the last is "Star Trek #96, Honor Blade". This is a very well-written book, with a reasonably plausible plot, excellent characterizations, and a very interesting back-history of the Romulans told alongside the current story.

The only real flaw is that, since this book was written, the "canonical" back-history of the Romulans has been created, and it isn't this one. Worse, the back-history of the first Federation-Romulan war she writes here involves contact between the Federation and the Romulans BEFORE contact was made between the Federation and the Vulcans, and that's CLEARLY wrong. But it isn't really fair to hold this author responsible for that; she wrote her history first, it simply wasn't accepted by the canonical writers.

The only other thing that needs to be mentioned is that some Star Trek readers will doubtless be unhappy with the fact that the ONLY Enterprise regular that we see in this book is McCoy. Some will doubtless consider this a failing; I found it kind of refreshing. Not that I don't enjoy the other characters, but there's no reason why ALL Star Trek stories have to include Kirk and Spock. They've had their share of books in which they get the lion's share of the action, and McCoy appears little or not at all. No reason not to feature him for a change.

Editorial Review:

They are a race of warriors, a noble people to whom honor is all. They are cousin to the Vulcan, ally to the Klingon, and Starfleet's most feared and cunning adversary. They are the Romulans -- and for eight years, Federation Agent Terise LoBrutto has hidden in their midst.

Now the presence of a captured Starfleet officer forces her to make a fateful choice -- between exposure and escape. Between maintaining her cover -- and saving the life of Dr. Leonard McCoy.

Here, in a startlingly different adventure, is the truth behind one of the most fascinating alien races ever created in STAR TREK -- the Romulans.

Finally Morwood returns! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I read the "Book of Years" over 15 years ago when in highschool; I loved it then and I still read my old originals now. This series in my opinion is one of the classic swords and sorcery stories and sadly one of the "lost gems" in the genre. Thankfully DAW republished it. Hopefully they wisely republish Morwood's "Clan War" series which is a prequel to the "Book of Years" and the supposed sequel to the latter called "The Star Lord". This series is reminiscent of Brian Daley's duology "Star followers of Coramonde" and "Doomfarers of Coramonde", and if anyone out there knows about those, then you know what I mean! Peter Morwood has written an action filled series with characters you will both love and love to hate.

two fantasy books in one volume [no spoilers] 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

"The Book of Years Volume #1" combines two stories "The Horse Lord" and "The Demon Lord" by Peter Morwood. Although the charming narrative has both imaginative and conventional heroes and terrorizing creatures, misspelling and repeated words unfortunately lace the poorly edited text.

"The Horse Lord" details the journey of Aldric Talvalin, distant heir to an outlying Horse Clan. The storyline develops as a small party quest involving magic, including various necromantic spells, and swordplay with legendary beasts and fascinating foes to find key artifacts. On the other hand a quickly introduced romance undermines the tension between characters.

"The Demon Lord" continues the saga of Aldric Talvalin about two months after the preceding story. Aldric's assignment begins as a relatively straightforward task yet escalates into a confrontation with a werewolf and ends up battling an ancient evil for a realms survival. As before, a hasty romance undercuts a perilous mission.

Military and political figures play essential roles however the political drama asserts minimal activity. A detailed map of the significant terrains and comprehensive appendix would have been useful.

I highly recommend this series to any fan of the fantasy genre.

Thank you.

Editorial Review:

The malevolent sorcery of Kalarr cu Ruruc has been unleashed against the unsuspecting Horse Lords. Aldric, the last survivor of his clan, must embark on a quest to obtain the one weapon that can defeat the dark magic before it spreads throughout the realm.

The Book of Years, Volume Two (Book of Years) 3 out of 5 stars.

two fantasy books in one volume [no spoilers] 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

"The Book of Years Volume #2", combining two stories "The Dragon Lord" and "The War Lord" (formerly "The Warlord's Domain") by Peter Morwood. Rather confusing developments manipulate both heroes and creatures in a poorly edited text filled with misspellings.

The menacing world has become more vicious (with disturbing images of cruelty) as "The Dragon Lord" resumes the adventure of Aldric Talvalin approximately three months following "The Demon Lord" account in "The Book of Years Volume #1". Characters and events significantly shape Aldric's moral growth and emotional maturity while at times questionable behavior reminds how he is utterly alone clan wise and with few real friends. I found Gemmel Errekren's unusual background displeasing. The feature moments are the magnificent firedrake encounters, capturing the intellect and supremacy of the legendary creature. Overall a pleasant if slightly lengthy read.

"The War Lord" concludes the dark saga of Aldric Talvalin approximately two months after his earlier adventure. New antagonists are more horrible than found in the former stories. Even though Voord Ebanesj evokes vast evil and has an intriguing transformation, unpleasant events have changed my recommending the series to children. Character interaction is not as charming as the past stories and the sudden conclusion is exceedingly unsatisfactory.

Military and political figures play essential roles however the political drama asserts minimal activity. A detailed map of the significant terrains and comprehensive appendix would have been useful.

I highly recommend the beginning of the series to any fan of the fantasy genre, though not this volume.

Thank you.

Editorial Review:

Despite being abandoned in the land of his enemies, Aldric, last survivor of his clan, will not turn away from the perilous task he is pledged to complete. Allies ride to his aid, but even if he survives a madman's deadly sorceries and the precarious attentions of an omnipotent dragon, still greater evils await him on his dangerous quest.

Exactly what you'd expect, and that's a good thing. 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Space Cops: Mindblast! introduces us to Officers Evan Glyndower and Joss O'Bannion of the Stellar Patrol. Glyndower is a walking weapons platform who wears a Suit (reminiscent of John Steakley's Armour) that makes him virtually indestructable. O'Bannion is a chemist and collector of classic (and not so classic) movies. Together they investigate the killing of fellow Solar Patrol officer Lon Salonikis, and the deadly new drug Hyper.

Space Cops is a fun little futuristic whodunit where bad guys lurk around every corner. It has clever dialogue and interesting characters. This is not heavy stuff, but there is a lot here to like.

Simply wonderful characterization!!! 5 out of 5 stars.

What a great original book about being a cop on the space beat.It has wonderful characterization with upbeat tempo and a plot that keeps you guessing.Even though it is out of print try to get a copy anyway,I think you would be glad you did. P.S. Don't let the first few pages scare you away.

Futuristic Reality with present action 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

The cover is very appealing and is a good portrayal of what the reader has in store. The described future in this book seems be to what policing of space could be like and is written in a very realist matter. The reader could be fool to believe that the story is occuring in present time. The plot gives a present sitiution in today's society and manifests itself in the future setting and allows for reader to be to clearly invision the future, it's characters and the action of the story. The different setting were described excellently since most have not been in space or on the planets in the book. The main character of Space Cops is shown to be emotional in way that doesn't focus purely on the action of the story but doesn't create a character that is not focused on the plot. This allows the reader to know what the character feels about his job as a police officer and his life away from policing. This is not to say that the plot deals with characters,it allows for imagnative action that can be seem in the mind's eye and is not easily forgotten, even long after putting down the book.I recommend this story for all sci-fi readers that also enjoy an action packed police drama.I would also like to recommend the other books in the Space Cops series if you enjoyed Mindblast.

Rounding up Intergalactic Trash!!!! 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This is the second of the SpaceCop series which I enjoyed very much. Being able to cruise with Joss and Evan rounding up intergalactic trash{bad guys) was a fun read. Almost as good as the first.I highly recommend it. Don't forget to stop by the tavern (Don't get in a fight).

The Good Old Days... 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

When men were men, women were women and bar fights were bar fights. Officers Glyndower and O'Bannion, Solar Police, are sent out to the Outer Belt, a ring of asteroids beyond Jupiter, to investigate the fact that more than the normal number of ships have been disappearing. Now, mining asteroids and normal space travel is dangerous to begin with. Yet the number of disppearances have gotten too high to ignore. So now the two officers must find out the truth behind all the ships gone missing. And what they find is NOT just a case of aggressive claim jumpers or piracy.
This book is the second one in the series and, like the first, has great character development, a good plot and a great hard sci-fi setting. Also lots of action, humor and a cool battle in the last few chapters.

Peter Morwood's "The Dragon Lord" 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Third of four books comprising the history of young Alban Clan Lord Aldric Talvalin, "The Dragon Lord" explores the depths of betrayal, love and friendship. Talvalin is swept into the political intrigue of a neighboring and unfriendly country at the behest of his king and his foster father, a mysterious wizard with secrets of his own.

The Talvalin books are a compelling mixture of differing cultures, both European and Asian in nature. Swordplay, wizardy and honor all play vital roles as the story unfolds. Excellent depictions of sword-work and the well-written exploration of the inner thoughts of a young man bent on an almost suicidal quest to avenge the death of his family make the Talvalin books hard to put down.
