Must read if you want to understand love 5 out of 5 stars.

For me this book helped me see beyond the Holliwood vision of relationships. It gave me a framework for understanding them as they really are; lots of hard work and occasional pain.

One of the BEST books I have EVER read. Most recommended. 5 out of 5 stars.

A remarkably well-written book - a MUST for everyone's library. It is a book about all of us, and on how to understand and manage *love* - this most important aspect of each of our lives. It is a more than worthy successor to such classics as Erich Fromm's "The Art of Loving," Thomas Harris's "I'm OK, You're OK," and M. Scott Peck's "The Road Less Traveled." If you should have the even the *slightest* reason to do so, I would strongly urge you to *read* this book!

Freelance Psychologist's View 5 out of 5 stars.
13 of 13 people found this review helpful.

This book is positvely a must read for anyone interested in Human Behavioral Sciences and Psychology in general. I am only 20 years old but have been interested in the science behind human interaction for many years. I continue to read many books, but this is probably one of my favorites. The book is a great read, and covers in depth more about the actual physical interaction from birth till death than any other books I've read...I strongly suggest it.

The Human Response to Touch 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

It was 1976 when I first discovered this book. I read it through cover to cover nodding my head as he affirmed what I had sensed in my young life: touch is essential to healthy human development.

Though the cover and title look corny now, thirty years later, the content for anyone interested in the human response to touch, is historic.

It is telling and tragic that our scientists had to use research on baby monkeys to document the primate suffering and distorted growth with lack of touch. We as a culture have tried to leave our mammalian and primate origins behind us, but as long as we live in our bodies, we will share the vital need for touch to fully develop and feel whole as human beings.

If you're already familiar with general information on the human response to touch and you're interested it taking it to the edge of what we know at the beginning of this 21st century, take a look at Job's Body: A Handbook for Bodywork (Third Edition). Job's Body takes the understanding of touch to a cellular level!

I would highly recommend it as a background reader for anyone considering becoming a massage therapist, and definitely anyone interested in human development and psychology.

Editorial Review:

With more than 300,000 copies sold, this landmark book is an impressive examination of the importance of touching. "All professionals concerned with human behavior will find something of value. . . . Parents . . . can gain insight into the nurturing needs of infants."--Janet Rhoads, American Journal of Occupational Therapy

I can see clearer know ! 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

Excellent Book !! This book was a gift for myself, and I am amazed at the extensive analysis of anxiously attached people, that it provides. I have a clearer view know as to why I behave like I behave in relationships, as well as why I tend to choose the partners I have chosen. It's all a cycle. It was a long read, but it's really, really worth it. All the examples of other people's experiences that are described in the book, were real eye openers. I am hoping this is a good step to start changing my behavioral patterns.

What a waste 1 out of 5 stars.

I was sooooo disappointed. I had high expectations for this book and found that it was really nothing more then stories told from a counselors chair. This book told me nothing about how to overcome the problems, but instead focused on experiments conducted to account for jealous partners. Truly a waste...there are other books out there that are much more useful.

Editorial Review:

It doesn't have to hurt to be in love, yet for many otherwisde accomplished and confident people, romantic involvement means anxiety, insecurity, and pain. This provocative and authoritative sourcebook, filled with true-life stories and dramatic case histories, will set every reader on a path of greater self-understanding -- and increase the possibilities of finding an enduring love.

Editorial Review:

The Second Edition of this well-known Compendium has been considerably expanded and updated. It contains new chapters on test selection administration and preparation of the client; report writing and the informing interview; executive functions; occupational interest and aptitude; and malingering and symptom validity testing. The first four chapters focus on history taking, test selection, profiling of test results, report writing, and informing the client. The remaining thirteen chapters contain nearly all the tests covered in the first edition plus almost the same number of new ones. Some of the new tests are: Kaufman-Brief Intelligence Test, Mini-Mental State Examination, Wechsler Individual Achievement Test, Design Fluency Test, California Verbal Learning Test, and Boston Diagnostic Aphasia Test. For each test, the authors provide a thorough description, source and price, instructions for administration, duration, scoring procedures, normative data, and validity information. They also discuss special tests and clinical techniques in examining the functional integrity of brain regions. The volume does not limit itself to the adult age range, but includes all the norms available for pediatric and gerontological populations, as well as neuropsychological tests developed specifically for children.

Editorial Review:

Since the publication of the first edition in 1966, Eye and Brain has established itself worldwide as an essential introduction to the basic phenomena of visual perception. In this book, Richard L. Gregory offers clear explanations of how we see brightness, movement, color, and objects, and he explores the phenomena of visual illusions to establish principles about how perception normally works and why it sometimes fails. Although successive editions have incorporated new discoveries and ideas, Gregory completely revised and updated the book for this publication, adding more than thirty new illustrations. The phenomena of illusion continue to be a major theme in the book, in which the author makes a new attempt to provide a comprehensive classification system. There are also new sections on what babies see and how they learn to see, on motion perception, and tantalizing glimpses of the relationship between vision and consciousness and of the impact of new brain imaging techniques. In addition, the presentation of the text and illustrations has been improved by the larger format and new page design. The thousands of readers of the previous editions of Eye and Brain will find this new revised edition even more attractive and enthralling.

Editorial Review:

This third edition of a classic text which was first published in 1976 is the only comprehensive, up-to-date presentation of psychophysics currently available. It has been used by undergraduate and graduate students, and scholars throughout the world and is consistently thought of as the best single source for learning the basic principles of psychophysics. The coverage of the field is comprehensive, including topics ranging from the classical methods of threshold measurement, to the modern methods of detection theory, to psychophysical scaling of sensation magnitude. The approach is one in which methods, theories, and applications are described for each experimental procedure.

New features found in this third edition include:
* methodological and theoretical contributions made in the field during this time period,
* descriptions of adaptive procedures for measuring thresholds, context effects in scaling, theory of quantal fluctuations, multidimensional scaling, nonmetric scaling of sensory differences, and the relationship between the size of the DL and the slope of the sensation magnitude function,
* new methods for measuring the observer's sensitivity of criterion and an expanded discussion of category scaling including the range frequency model and verbally labeled categories, and
* methods used to control the observer's nonlinear use of numbers in magnitude estimation such as line-length scaling, magnitude matching, master scaling, and category-ratio scaling.

Editorial Review:

This is a thorough revision of Sekuler and Blake's successful text on Sensation and Perception. The third edition focuses on the most recent developments in perceptual research, blending anatomy, physiology, and psychophysics to explain structure and function. New features include a revised and expanded methods section, increased coverage of speech perception, an expanded and refined touch chapter, more emphasis on cognitive issues, and greatly improved pedagogy such as chapter summaries, boxed demonstrations and computational examples.

Focusing Each Day 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

As a single mother, it is sometimes hard for me to remember to love those who are most important to me, including myself. I use this book to give each day a theme, to remind myself what is important, and to not forget the little things along the way. Daphne Rose Kingma has written a book that is as much a collection of affirmations as it is a daily hug, and who doesn't need a hug each and every day?

I was taught so many good pieces of wisdom from this book. 5 out of 5 stars.

This book was published in 1992, when I was in my early 20s. I read it from cover to cover repeatedly. It taught me so many good pieces of wisdom. I had forgotten about if for a long time, when I discovered it a few days ago. I love it all over again. Daphne Rose Kingma did a wonderful job of saying alot in a few words. Thank you so much Mrs. Kingma. I will relearn your wisdom from a perspective of being 11 years older. This book is very worth the cost and effort of getting it. I am sure it will teach you new wisdom to.

Editorial Review:

America's leading expert on love and relationships writes with insight and clarity on the meaning of love, offering readers a welcome opportunity each day to reflect on the love in their lives.
