I'm sure this is helpful, but....... 2 out of 5 stars.

It focuses on men who hit women, not on men who need to deal with anger constructively. Just not what I was looking for.

Inspiring and simple 5 out of 5 stars.

This book has been so helpful for me. I have given it to many guys with anger problems - just wish they realized it and read it! It coincides well with Joel Osteen and with the book Mistakes Were Made (But Not By Me)!

This book could save your relationship 5 out of 5 stars.

If you really want to control your anger, this is the book. 5 out of 5 stars.
31 of 34 people found this review helpful.

The authors present both an overall framework for controlling anger and a multitude of specific techniques you can use. This very practical book is written in a much more modern style than most of Ellis' previous books. If you want results and are willing to work for them, order this book--and start working. These methods work!

understanding your anger 3 out of 5 stars.

I read this book primarily for two reasons. I am a nursing student and I have to do a review on this book, as well examine this book for myself. I thought this book had realistic ideals on how people handle their anger as well as what we feel. When it came to discussing the ABC's of anger it left me in a stump. When you write a book you should in lamins terms explain everything as if the audience has no clue in what you are talking about. I believe that in this book they wrote it as if we knew exactly what he was pointing out when in reality it was confusing. It helps there again point out views but it doesn't really lay it out in fine print on what to do with your emotions, and feelings of anger.

Editorial Review:

In their new approach to coping with anger, world famous psychologist Dr. Albert Ellis and Dr. Raymond Chip Tafrate present their thoroughly researched and proven technique designed to help understand the roots and nature of anger. Using simple instructions and exercises, readers can learn to reduce angry reactions to an often difficult and unfair world.

Editorial Review:

In 1980, Richard Cytowic was having dinner at a friend's house, when his host exclaimed, "Oh, dear, there aren't enough points on the chicken." With that casual comment began Cytowic's journey into the condition known as synesthesia.

The ten people in one million who are synesthetes are born into a world where one sensation (such as sound) conjures up one or more others (such as taste or color). Although scientists have known about synesthesia for two hundred years, until now the condition has remained a mystery. Extensive experiments with more than forty synesthetes led Richard Cytowic to an explanation of synesthesia—and to a new conception of the organization of the mind, one that emphasized the primacy of emotion over reason.

Because there were not enough points on chicken served at a dinner almost two decades ago, Cytowic came to explore a deeper reality that he believes exists in all individuals, but usually below the surface of awareness. In this medical detective adventure, he reveals the brain to be an active explorer, not just a passive receiver, and offers a new view of what it means to be human—a view that turns upside down conventional ideas about reason, emotion, and who we are.

Access an Untapped Source of Success

At long last, a book directed to the working world that acknowledges and demonstrates how managing our emotions and dealing with the feelings of others increases the bottom line. Practical, practical, practical!
--Rita McGlone, assistant director of executive education, The Wharton School of Business

Experts now acknowledge that emotional intelligence (EI) is perhaps the most crucial determinant of success in the workplace. And unlike IQ or other traditional measures of intelligence, EI can be developed and dramatically increased. This unprecedented book demonstrates how to master the core competencies of EI, abilities that include self-motivation, high self-awareness, mood management, and emotional mentoring. In addition, it includes scores of real-world examples and dozens of practical exercises that accelerate the process, along with step-by-step approaches to mastering a variety of EI techniques.

STILL THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE PSYCHOLOGICAL STUDY OF ANXIETY 5 out of 5 stars.
41 of 41 people found this review helpful.

This scholarly yet extremely accesible study of anxiety--from philosophical, social, theological, literary, cultural as well as biological perspectives--was first published in 1950, and updated by May in 1977. It is still the widest-ranging, richest, most intelligent and insightful exploration of anxiety currently available in one volume. In this postmodern era of hyperbiologism (which presumes anxiety and other symptoms to hold only physical meaning) and resulting wildly popular pharmacological treatments for anxiety, May reminds readers that anxiety has much more than mere biochemical causes and physiological significance: anxiety, insists May, is not necessarily pathological, but rather, a meaningful, necessary, vital and ultimately inextricable aspect of human existence.

Editorial Review:

In the revised edition of this now-classic study, the distinguished author of Love and Will deepens his exploration into anxiety theory. Dr. May challenges the idea that mental health means living without anxiety, and he explores anxiety's potential for self-realization as well as ways to avoid its destructive aspects.

Editorial Review:

J.W.Dunne ("Intrusions?," "The Jumping Lions of Borneo," "Serial Universe") first published his ground-breaking theory of time in 1927. Spurred by dreams and other personal experiences to an intense interest in the nature of time and human perception, Dunne designed an experiment whose purpose was to isolate the barrier dividing our knowledge of the past from that of the future. Conversant with the concepts and language of physics - which he deemed inadequate to describe a world that is largely experiential - Dunne weaves an intriguing, intelligent, and convincing theory that has earned him a place of honor among the twentieth century's brightest minds.

- Brilliant theory that puts Dunne in the ranks of Einstein, Hawking, and other pioneers of physics and consciousness research

- A scientific experiment to probe the nature of time and the barrier dividing knowledge of the past and future

- Contains one of the first scientific arguments for human immortality

- Explores the relationship between dreams, time, perception, and reality

- As original and thought-provoking today as it was three quarters of a century ago

A Gift for Our Time! There ARE answers! 5 out of 5 stars.
26 of 26 people found this review helpful.

Feeling & Healing Your Emotions is an excellent book for understanding the importance of our emotions in growing to psychological wholeness and in living a happy and virtuous life. This book is helpful for persons suffering with many different symptoms and disorders including anger, depression, fear, anxiety, scrupulosity, obsessive compulsive symptoms, sexual disorders, emotional deprivation, difficulty with a relationship with God, repressive disorders and Emotional Deprivation Disorder (which is written about extensively in Healing the Unaffirmed by Baars & Terruwe). This book is written in an easy-to-read question and answer format and tackles many issues pertinent to our time. It is especially suited for a variety of readers - lay person and professional alike. I highly recommend this book along with all other books by Conrad Baars, MD and Anna Terruwe, MD. This book was edited and revised in 2003.

Editorial Review:

Feeling and healing Your Emotions offers guidelines for emotional and spiritual wholeness. In simple question-and-answer format, readers learn that all emotions are positive aspects of our nature and that a fully developed emotional life can strengthen one's spiritual life.

Wonderfully touching 5 out of 5 stars.
45 of 47 people found this review helpful.

What beautiful writing! It's pointed out in the intro that, more than most of us, her world was shaped with WORDS. I've only read about four essays so far, and am profoundly touched. I've always admired Helen Keller, but am newly re-impressed with her wisdom and vision, and touched that she can write so clearly as to make me feel how little she felt limited by her handicap. If Helen Keller had simply learned to behave and ask politely for her food, etc, it would have been an impressive accomplishment. The fact that she grew to fully embrace her intelligence, her world and her potential . . . wow. I know so many people who are content to just do the bare minimum, to not stretch their limits at all, to not show any intellectual curiosity . . . she had the perfect excuse to exert the least effort, yet she didn't. Once she was given the key, the entree to humanity, she didn't let her handicaps stop her. I love that even all these years later, she is still able to share that.

Editorial Review:

Helen Keller's The Story of My Life changed the world. But The World I Live In, Keller's sequel to her autobiography, remains almost completely unknown. Here, responding to skeptics who doubted that a girl who was blind, deaf, and mute almost from birth could find words to describe her experience, Keller presents a striking word-picture of her reality. The World I Live In is an evocative, inspirational, and deeply moving account of an extraordinary woman's keenest impressions. It includes Keller's first published essay, written when she was 12 years old.

Practical, thought-provoking, inspiring 5 out of 5 stars.
53 of 53 people found this review helpful.

This book has been essential for me in developing a concept of the healing force in myself and in everybody -- Life Energy, as the title succinctly puts it -- and how this force can be activated. The specific details about our emotions -- and how they relate to the acupuncture system -- are fascinating. I particularly find helpful and thought-provoking Dr. Diamond's use of etymology (the origins of words) in pinpointing and evoking emotional states. The many photographs and humorous or touching anecdotes -- all these contribute to this highly readable, very therapeutic volume. I find Dr. Diamond's affirmations and the acupuncture points, which are clearly illustrated, wonderfully helpful in creating a daily routine for health and happiness. I have gone on to read many other books by Dr. Diamond, but this one remains basic and essential. I highly reccomend this book.

Editorial Review:

This ground breaking material focuses on the psychological aspects of Life Energy. Learn how to assess the level of your Life Energy and determine the specific psychological factors which are interfering with its activation and expression. Here for the first time is a comprehensive explanation of our positive and negative emotions and how they specifically affect us mentally and physically. A complete study of the meridians and the emotions.
