By far the best dream book I've read so far!! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I was so sick of dream dictionarys and books that listed a word, like say elephant, and then a word or two about what that dream means. I heard good things about this author and decided to give it a try. I love it! She lists diffrent types of dreams, and diffrent scenerios in each section. She also gives real life examples and what they meant and how they worked out. De-coding your dreams is a very personal thing, no book can tell you everything. However, it get a little easier to put them in perspective after you read this. I had to buy this new, and it was worth every penny.

Editorial Review:

The average person will dream over 150,000 dreams in a lifetime--each one a complex web of imagery and deeper meaning. The Complete Dream Book uses the interpretation of 28,000 actual dreams from contemporary dreamers, just like you, to help you access the substance and meaning of your own dreams.

Discover:

  • Who's who in your dreams
  • Which dreams recur during certain life stages
  • The true meaning behind your nightmares
  • Why you have certain dreams again and again
  • How to tell if a dream is worth interpreting--and if you've done it correctly
  • The phenomenon of precognitive dreams
  • The Complete Dream Book is the only dream interpretation book based on concrete data about real people's dreams and how the real events in their lives relate to their nighttime visions.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always loved dream books but never felt fully satisfied... until now. I have been waiting for a dream book like this since I was old enough to interpret my dreams. I used to go over 3 or 4 different dream books to decipher my dreams but I finally only need one. Somehow Kelly managed to be the first person in the universe to make a genius book that covers everything in one place.

    Editorial Review:

DESCRIPTION: We live in a world of sensory overload, and people's dreams have come to reflect that complexity. No longer do people dream that they are standing naked in a room full of their peers. Instead, dreams might involve standing naked in the middle of a conference room, with a cell phone in one hand and an incoming call from Donald Trump. What's that all about? I HAD THE STRANGEST DREAM... will answer such questions and help readers break down the meaning of their dreams. 21st century dreamers will finally have the tools they need to tap into the power of their dreams in order to become more productive and tranquil human beings.

    Editorial Review:

Whether we love or hate Sigmund Freud, we all have to admit that he revolutionized the way we think about ourselves. Much of this revolution can be traced to The Interpretation of Dreams, the turn-of-the-century tour de force that outlined his theory of unconscious forces in the context of dream analysis. Introducing the id, the superego, and their problem child, the ego, Freud advanced scientific understanding of the mind immeasurably by exposing motivations normally invisible to our consciousness. While there's no question that his own biases and neuroses influenced his observations, the details are less important than the paradigm shift as a whole. After Freud, our interior lives became richer and vastly more mysterious.

These mysteries clearly bothered him--he went to great (often absurd) lengths to explain dream imagery in terms of childhood sexual trauma, a component of his theory jettisoned mid-century, though now popular among recovered-memory therapists. His dispassionate analyses of his own dreams are excellent studies for cognitive scientists wishing to learn how to sacrifice their vanities for the cause of learning. Freud said of the work contained in The Interpretation of Dreams, "Insight such as this falls to one's lot but once in a lifetime." One would have to feel quite fortunate to shake the world even once. --Rob Lightner

Terrific dream book--! 5 out of 5 stars.

Now this is a dream book unlike any of the other "interp" books out there. It's very simple yet thorough, because there ARE only a few basic types of dreams, and the interpretation specs here make total sense.

Having said that, Sylvia's other books are rather odd, parties-in-heaven? I think not Sylvia!, belligerent, egotistical, unbelievable. They are, however, highly entertaining. Take them with a huge grain of salt.

But this book is a winner; she definitely has insight into the dreamstate. Buy it!

Amazing 5 out of 5 stars.

A basic book with not much substance on dreams 3 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I have a number of dream books, but this one was okay and very basic. The explanations of dream symbols were very short and did not give you much insight nor the tools needed to analyse your dreams in depth. It is a basic dream book and I would rate it average.

Be Your Own Dream Interpreter 5 out of 5 stars.

Don't let the "Complete Idiot's Guide" designation fool you: This is the book for anybody who is intellectually curious enough to try and raise their awareness about the significance of dreaming life which co-authors Eve Adamson and Gayle Williamson assure us is the shadow side of our waking life, enigmatic symbolism and all.

Neatly segmented into the concise style of popular reference dictionaries, the Dream Dictionary lets inquirers go as deeply into the labyrinth of their dreams as they want; the entries are less occultish than is true of some other dictionaries yet intruiging for their emphasis on the elements of fear and desire, "universal truths" that bind humanity after the waking hours.

Adamson and Williamson write invitingly about the benefits of dream journaling and preparing the body for sleep in anticipation of lucid, creative dreaming or just opening the mind to the possibilities of getting those answers to problems that linger below the limn of consciousness.

As a user-friendly guide, the CIG Dream Dictionary promotes self-understanding with due homage to the cosmos of archetypes in a book that enables the reader to play a sharp detective with their dreams. Adamson's lively prose is a joyful bonus and helps make this book a bedside companion worthy of its dog-eared place at your side.

Theory and Practice of Understanding Your Dreams 5 out of 5 stars.
40 of 41 people found this review helpful.

This compact discussion of the Jungian method of dream analyses is a thorough examination of basic concepts as they are applied in practical dream interpretation. The author, a psychiatrist and Jungian Analyst, clearly outlines the process of understanding dreams and addresses their purpose. Dreams are for "problem solving and personality development." First they are compensation for conscious attitudes that are ineffective. Secondly dreams serve as guides to conscious integration of the unconscious elements of the psyche as an individual matures into an effective individuated being.
As an experienced student of dreams for 50 years, I consider this to be one of the best concise references. His example dreams illustrate the concepts and his organization of the theory of knowing one's Self is not dogmatic. Hall advises that the process is one of flexibility in differentiating the personal psyche of an individual from the universal and cultural structures that influence us all.

This book shows the true nature of dreams 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 6 people found this review helpful.

This is an eye opening book. Dream work, as opposed to dream interpretation, involves developing a deeper and deeper relationship with the soul until you begin to see yourself as God sees you. It is transformative, and this is what Kamenetz's book is about. He presents some erudite background in the beginning of the book. He then describes his own journey into his soul in vulnerable and poignant terms, and how he was changed by the experience. I was inspired and moved. Thank you, Mr. Kamenetz.

Honesty that cuts to the bone 5 out of 5 stars.

Reading The History of Last Night's dream is like looking into the open door of a private home - only instead of seeing the furniture and decor - you get to feel into Kammenetz's soul. I am awed by his honesty and the 'direct hit' the dreams have for propelling him into what really appears to be true inner growth.I found that it started a little slow - but keep reading! It will blow your mind - and change your ideas about dreams!

    Editorial Review:

Our Dreams Will Never Be the Same Again

International bestselling author Rodger Kamenetz believes it is not too late to reclaim the lost power of our nightly visions. He fearlessly delves into this mysterious inner realm and shows us that dreams are not only intensely meaningful, but hold essential truths about who we are. There are many books available on dreaming. The format of this book is the the same as so many others... dictionary. What makes this book different is the explanations of the dream content that you look up. It is clear and provocative. It is helpful in suggesting the archetype for the dream content. (Google Jung and dreams, if you are unfamiliar with dream archetypes)

    Enjoy!

Truly Complete 5 out of 5 stars.

I actually picked this book up today at a Borders near my home. This book is huge... just filled to the brim with interpretations, however it also contains valuable dream information for explaining dreams and why we have them, (a section is included on how to use this big monstrous book)the history and beliefs, an explaination of archetypes, methods of dream interpritation, how to be a creative dreamer and a massive dream dictionary that is very much like the dictionary on (dreammoods . com) in terms of having detailed and varied definitions for different experiences of the same theme. There is also a section that teaches you how to interprit your dreams by using other peoples dreams as examples. The author then breaks down the dreams and how they should be interprited. There are over ten examples of these. At the end of this book is a dream workbook as well. If you are or know someone who gives much credit to dreams and it's science and is an active explorer or dreamworker, this is a great book, much better than many others I have seen. It contains so much at such a great price. You won't regret it.
