Editorial Review:

A guidebook for communicating with the departed and gaining first-hand knowledge of life beyond death

• Reveals that the easiest way to communicate with the departed is through dreams

• Offers methods for helpful and timely communication with deceased loved ones

• Provides powerful Active Dreaming practices from ancient and indigenous cultures for journeying beyond the gates of death for wisdom and healing

We yearn for contact with departed loved ones. We miss them, ache for forgiveness or closure, and long for confirmation that there is life beyond physical death. In The Dreamer’s Book of the Dead, Robert Moss explains that we have entirely natural contact with the departed in our dreams, when they come visiting and we may travel into their realms. As we become active dreamers, we can heal our relationship with the departed and move beyond the fear of death. We also can develop the skills to function as soul guides for others, helping the dying to approach the last stage of life with courage and grace, opening gates for their journeys beyond death, and even escorting them to the Other Side.

Drawing on a wealth of personal experience as well as many ancient and indigenous traditions, Moss offers stories to inspire us and guide us. He shares his extraordinary visionary relationship with the poet W. B. Yeats, whose greatest ambition was to create a Western Book of the Dead, to feed the soul hunger of our times. Moss teaches us the truth of Chief Seattle’s statement that "there is no death; we just change worlds."

A basic book with not much substance on dreams 3 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I have a number of dream books, but this one was okay and very basic. The explanations of dream symbols were very short and did not give you much insight nor the tools needed to analyse your dreams in depth. It is a basic dream book and I would rate it average.

Be Your Own Dream Interpreter 5 out of 5 stars.

Don't let the "Complete Idiot's Guide" designation fool you: This is the book for anybody who is intellectually curious enough to try and raise their awareness about the significance of dreaming life which co-authors Eve Adamson and Gayle Williamson assure us is the shadow side of our waking life, enigmatic symbolism and all.

Neatly segmented into the concise style of popular reference dictionaries, the Dream Dictionary lets inquirers go as deeply into the labyrinth of their dreams as they want; the entries are less occultish than is true of some other dictionaries yet intruiging for their emphasis on the elements of fear and desire, "universal truths" that bind humanity after the waking hours.

Adamson and Williamson write invitingly about the benefits of dream journaling and preparing the body for sleep in anticipation of lucid, creative dreaming or just opening the mind to the possibilities of getting those answers to problems that linger below the limn of consciousness.

As a user-friendly guide, the CIG Dream Dictionary promotes self-understanding with due homage to the cosmos of archetypes in a book that enables the reader to play a sharp detective with their dreams. Adamson's lively prose is a joyful bonus and helps make this book a bedside companion worthy of its dog-eared place at your side.

Theory and Practice of Understanding Your Dreams 5 out of 5 stars.
41 of 42 people found this review helpful.

This compact discussion of the Jungian method of dream analyses is a thorough examination of basic concepts as they are applied in practical dream interpretation. The author, a psychiatrist and Jungian Analyst, clearly outlines the process of understanding dreams and addresses their purpose. Dreams are for "problem solving and personality development." First they are compensation for conscious attitudes that are ineffective. Secondly dreams serve as guides to conscious integration of the unconscious elements of the psyche as an individual matures into an effective individuated being.
As an experienced student of dreams for 50 years, I consider this to be one of the best concise references. His example dreams illustrate the concepts and his organization of the theory of knowing one's Self is not dogmatic. Hall advises that the process is one of flexibility in differentiating the personal psyche of an individual from the universal and cultural structures that influence us all.

Sweet Dreams 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 7 people found this review helpful.

Healing Night offers practical ways to combat sleep disorders. Dr. Naiman eschews approved FDA pharmaceutical sleep aids in favor of a natural approach. Some of the suggestions include using meditation and exercise to reduce stress levels. A must read self help book for anyone who has anxiety and insomnia. I rate it 5 Z's.

Editorial Review:

In Healing Night, clinical psychologist Rubin R. Naiman explores sleeping, dreaming, and awakening, going far beyond the science of sleep medicine to reflect on what he believes is the profoundly spiritual nature of night consciousness. Naiman reveals how the erosion of night by artificial light and the devaluation of sleep and dreaming have led to an epidemic of sleep disorders and consequent days of chronically dazed waking consciousness. Drawing on both clinical experience and personal explorations, Naiman offers a fresh look at sleep and dreams, and provides alternative healing practices for sleep disturbances. Moreover, he challenges us to acknowledge our spiritual night blindness and embrace the sacredness of night.

Editorial Review:

J.W.Dunne ("Intrusions?," "The Jumping Lions of Borneo," "Serial Universe") first published his ground-breaking theory of time in 1927. Spurred by dreams and other personal experiences to an intense interest in the nature of time and human perception, Dunne designed an experiment whose purpose was to isolate the barrier dividing our knowledge of the past from that of the future. Conversant with the concepts and language of physics - which he deemed inadequate to describe a world that is largely experiential - Dunne weaves an intriguing, intelligent, and convincing theory that has earned him a place of honor among the twentieth century's brightest minds.

- Brilliant theory that puts Dunne in the ranks of Einstein, Hawking, and other pioneers of physics and consciousness research

- A scientific experiment to probe the nature of time and the barrier dividing knowledge of the past and future

- Contains one of the first scientific arguments for human immortality

- Explores the relationship between dreams, time, perception, and reality

- As original and thought-provoking today as it was three quarters of a century ago

Still relevant 5 out of 5 stars.
16 of 18 people found this review helpful.

Freud has taken a beating in recent years, but if you ask me, far too many people blindly accept all the received wisdom about him (he was sexist, unscientific, dogmatic) instead of going straight to the source. The agreeably brief "On Dreams," while far from a comprehensive look at the subject, is a good crash-course on this fascinating topic, still worth reading generations after its initial publication.

Here, Freud convincingly demolishes the long-standing scientific argument, which is still very much with us, that considers dreams as simply random mental events. He distinguishes between the manifest content of a dream (what happens) and its latent content (what it means). He also makes valuable distinctions among the different types of dreams, varying from the simple wish-fulfillment dreams mostly restricted to children and the bafflingly weird ones that we all get on occasion, and takes a stab at explaining why and how they are formed in our sleeping minds. You can love Freud or hate him, but you cannot imagine the 20th Century without him, and he still deserves our attention.

Editorial Review:

Directly after the 1900 publication of The Interpretation of Dreams, Freud wrote this more concise, accessible version of his theory of dreams as disguised wish fulfillment. This classic of modern psychology contrasts scientific and popular views of dreams, considers their origins, and discusses the effects of mental mechanisms.

A poorly organized book about a fascinating topic 2 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Psychology and Alchemy has a lot of interesting information, but it is not presented in any sort of organized fashion. Alchemy is well known for its perplexing symbols, but in the book these symbols are only referred to in passing. This book is not for anyone who is trying to understand how the symbolism of Alchemy relates to psychology. The descriptions of basic elements such as the planets, the caduceus, or birds are only 1-2 sentences in length and are scattered throughout the book. Trying to use the index won't help either, as the pages listed in the index as containing information about a topic are often incorrect as they contain no mention of the topic being looked up.

Editorial Review:

C.G. Jung was one of the first modern thinkers to realise the importance of alchemical symbolism to men and women today. He saw it as a bridge between the conscious and the unconscious mind, a bridge needed just as much now as in earlier times when alchemy was a flourishing tradition and practice. In Psychology and Alchemy Jung worked out in detail the analogies between alchemy, Christian dogma and symbolism, and discusses individual dream symbolism in relation to alchemy, focussing on the mandala in particular. He also describes religious ideas in alchemy, and the use of alchemical symbols such as the unicorn, the phoenix, the brazen serpent and the tree of life in various religious traditions.

Editorial Review:

Explores the ancient Iroquois tradition of dreams, healing, and the recovery of the soul.

• Explains Native American shamanic dream practices and their applications and purpose in modern life.

• Shows how dreams call us to remember and honor our soul's true purpose.

• Offers powerful Active Dreaming methods for regaining lost soul energy to restore our vitality and identity.

The ancient teaching of the Iroquois people is that dreams are experiences of the soul in which we may travel outside the body, across time and space, and into other dimensions--or receive visitations from ancestors or spiritual guides. Dreams also reveal the wishes of the soul, calling us to move beyond our ego agendas and the web of other people's projections into a deeper, more spirited life. They call us to remember our sacred contracts and reclaim the knowledge that belonged to us, on the levels of soul and spirit, before we entered our present life experience. In dreams we also discover where our vital soul energy may have gone missing--through pain or trauma or heartbreak--and how to get it back.

Robert Moss was called to these ways when he started dreaming in a language he did not know, which proved to be an early form of the Mohawk Iroquois language. From his personal experiences, he developed a spirited approach to dreaming and living that he calls Active Dreaming.

Dreamways of the Iroquois is at once a spiritual odyssey, a tribute to the deep wisdom of the First Peoples, a guide to healing our lives through dreamwork, and an invitation to soul recovery.

Making Every Night An Adventure 5 out of 5 stars.
23 of 26 people found this review helpful.

I'm not particularly into new-age stuff, and this book does contain a bit of it, but I still find this book immensely enjoyable. I try and read a little before bed each night, for the writing is informative yet calming and the illustrations are also relaxing and dream-like. Unfortunately I'm usually very busy and am too tired to read every night, so I sometimes get out of the habit, but the times when I've stuck with it I've noticed I can remember more of my dreams and sometimes I've been able to lucid dream. The exercises in the book really help with remembering your dreams, controlling the content, controlling your actions (lucid dreaming), and interpretation. When I wake up in the morning, I recall all the adventures I had the night before and I feel like I've learned a little more about myself. When you can't take a vacation, you can always dream!

Editorial Review:

The practical companion to Secret Language of Dreams, this beautifully illustrated, hands-on guide to remembering and understanding dreams presents more than 50 exercises that enable earnest dreamers to explore, intensify, and even guide their night wanderings. Includes 150 full-color images and a brief A-Z directory of dream symbols.160 pp.

Universal, archetypal dream symbols lovingly explored 5 out of 5 stars.
60 of 64 people found this review helpful.

Jeremy Taylor's first two books, DREAM WORK, and WHERE PEOPLE FLY AND WATER RUNS UP HILL, (q.v.) are brilliant introductions to exploring dreams with an eye to their deeper meanings. Both books offer insights that empower individual dreamers to look more deeply into their own dreaming experience and find more of the MULTIPLE MEANINGS that inhere in every dream - (even the tiniest fugitive fragments.) These books deal with forming on-going, lay-led dream groups, as well as working with one's dreams in solitude. LIVING LABYRINTH takes this self-empowerment dream work process one step further, encouraging dreamers to seek the "aha!" of meaning not only in the personal layers of significance in their dreams, but also in the transpersonal, archetypal symbols and metaphors that always appear in our dreams. Filled with re-tellings of some of the world's most interesting and emotionally compelling myths and sacred narratives, as well as accounts of many dreams of contemporary dreamers, the book explores the deep, recurring patterns of meaning and symbol that appear in both our individual dreams and our shared. collective religious and spiritual stories. There are alos 22 charming illustrations and diagrams (drawn by the author) that make the book visually appealing as well intellectually stimulating.

Editorial Review:

Explores archetypal symbols in myths and dreams and explains how these have structured people's spiritual lives. Aimed at a general readership.
