The best organization book out there! 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is great. It gave a detailed chore list and told me exactly what to do to organize my cleaning. It was great help with our move, too. There is a section on almost every catagory you can imagine.

Each chapter can be read in 15 minutes, although I stayed up all night to read it... I would recommend this book to anyone who has 15 minutes to spare... If you don't have it, make it. You will have more time, I promise!!! :)

Thank god for Gloria. 5 out of 5 stars.
18 of 21 people found this review helpful.

There was often grumbling in certain circles that Gloria Steinem had so much attention paid to her because she was pretty. If that was the only factor, Steinem's popularity would have waned, not because she lost her looks (she never did) but because of the fickleness of the media and the "next pretty face." Steinem is smart, brave, funny and a damn good writer. "Outrageous Acts and Everyday Rebellions", her 1983 book of collected essays proves it in spades.

In early 1993, I had the privilege of seeing Gloria Steinem speak at Mount Holyoke College. I had to take the bus from UMASS to get there, and the place was packed. They closed the doors at one point saying it was too full, but they ended up letting most people in. When Ms. Steinem took the stage, she urged all those who were standing in the back to come up and join her onstage so that they could sit. This is the kindness and warmth that Steinem raidates. Many people in the audience were clutching copies of her books for her to sign. As this was the era of "Revolution from Within," that book was everywhere. But I also saw many copies of "Outrageous Acts and Everyday Rebellions" as well. By then the book was 10 years old, but I can understand why people held onto it. This is a great book of essays written over the years. The book touches upon topics such as abortion rights, Jackie Onassis, Alice Walker, Steinem's college reunion, Steinem's own relationship with her mother and the famous expose of Steinem's undercover work at the Playboy Club in the early 60's. Having a journalism background, Steinem's prose is clear and concise. This is no rhetoric-filled theory-based polemic, but a balanced and fair look at the world from the perspective of an extraordinary woman. Also included in this collection is the wonderfully wry, "If Men Could Menstruate." The second edition of this book has some updated comments from Steinem that reflect on the essays more than a decade after the book was published.

For all those who condemn feminism yet really know nothing about it, read this book. For those who are looking for a book of unique, well-written and enlightening essays, read this book. For those of us who discovered this book long ago and have fond memories, read it again.

Editorial Review:

This phenomenally successful book, that has sold nearly a half a million copies since its original publication in 1983, is Gloria Steinem's most diverse and timeless collection of essays.

Good study guide 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

It's a great study guide with lots of questions and quotes to add to a group study. I've found for my youth group bible study their is more questions than we'd ever have time for...but I have lots of options to choose from. The study guide seems to be more geared to post teen women not 13-17yr olds.

Editorial Review:

THE 100th YEAR ANNIVERSARY EDITION

The Story of My Life, a remarkable account of overcoming the debilitating challenges of being both deaf and blind, has become an international classic, making Helen Keller one of the most well-known, inspirational figures in history. Originally published in 1903, Keller’s fascinating memoir narrates the events of her life up to her third year at Radcliffe College.

Helen Keller’s story of struggle and achievement is one of unquenchable hope. From tales of her difficult early days, to details of her relationship with her beloved teacher Anne Sullivan, to her impressions of academic life, Keller’s honest, straightforward writing lends insight into an amazing mind. Like the original, this centenary edition of The Story of My Life includes letters Keller wrote to friends throughout her childhood and adolescence that chronicle her intellectual and sensory progression, as well as assistant John Macy’s commentary on her interpretations of her surroundings.

In addition to reprinting Keller’s long-lost original work, this edition contains excerpts from her little-known, deeply personal memoir The World We Live In, which give readers a detailed look into an otherwise unimaginable existence, as well as an excerpt from Out of the Dark, a political commentary Keller wrote during her years as a socialist.

Deftly edited and prefaced by scholar James Berger, this comprehensive anniversary edition celebrates a century of readers’ enthrallment with one of the most powerful figures in history.

Interesting History Lesson 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Did you know Gene Simmons was a teacher before he was the front man for the rock group KISS? Well he was. And Proffessor Simmons gives an interesting history lesson of the ladies of the night.

Gene calmly narrates this scholarly work..and keeps the listener rivited. He does not down the subject of his discourse, he praises them. He shows their legacy from early cavemen days to modern day. He shows he is great teacher teaching a lesson of history unknown to many. He even covers the relationship of Jesus and Mary..without sounding preachy

If you are expecting something KISS like you will be disappointed. This audio is a great lecture about the oldest proffessor that should be taught in high school or college..Great work and great use of the subject matter

So Professor Simmons, with an audio that is this good..when is your next intriging history lesson. With you teaching this, I am an apt pupil and all ears!

Bennet Pomerantz AUDIOWORLD

Editorial Review:

Gene Simmons mega-rock star, businessman, marketing genius and self-proclaimed free spirit follows up his best-selling books Kiss And Make-Up and Sex, Money, Kiss with Ladies of the Night, an examination of the history of prostitution.
Simmons makes the case that men have been stepping out on women since the beginning of time, and that the practice is not about to stop. For that reason alone, Simmons argues that prostitution should be legalized. He argues that prostitution is a victimless crime that could be made safe and become a large source of tax revenues. Simmons, who has never used a lady of the night, believes no one should have to pay for sex, whether it is through prostitutes or marriage.
Regardless of where you stand on the issue, Simmons' book is an arresting, informative, humorous and outrageous exploration of the world's oldest profession, drawing on human nature, history, science and public policy.

Editorial Review:

These provocative original essays aim to empathize with, encourage and inspire 20-something women. It's a Wonderful Lie will pick up where Quarter-life Crisis left off and will offer perspective and wisdom. Writers will shed a light on what one should and should not expect from what you've been led to believe are the best years of your life. The essays range from comedic to reflective and pensive, all looking at the uphill battle that exists as women live through their first jobs, loves, and losses. Cleverly titled essays such as, 'My Own Mr. Big', 'Twentysomething Seeks Same for FRIENDSHIP' and 'Tradeoffs: Why I Sold My Soul for My Apartments' will look back on the various areas that tripped up women in their twenties the most. The contributors then move forward, figuring out that while this crucial decade might have its many downsides, the pluses are numerous. It's a Wonderful Lie entertains, encourages and empowers women who are living through their twenties now, about to graduate from college, and, finally, those who have loved and lived through it all.

Pathway to Purpose review 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This book is one of the most significant books I've read in awhile in regard to helping me honestly evaluated God's place in my life and my own motivations for serving Him and relating to others. This book makes me feel like I want to sit with the author and discuss at length the concepts she brings forth in her book. Ms Brazelton must be an awesome mentor.

Discovering my passions 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is excellent for doing exactly what the title predicts. It has certainly been a pathway to God's purpose for my life. I am slowly discovering the passions that God has placed in my heart and connecting them with, what else but, His purpose for my life.

Interesting 3 out of 5 stars.

I found this easy to listen to but not of much help to any pathway to purpose for me. It was interesting and did get some ideas from listening to it.

A better title might be, "Me, the Unique Rebel" 1 out of 5 stars.
2 of 6 people found this review helpful.

Really, everyone who has given this "author" one star has hit the nail on the head; she wants to be fascinating. I suppose there's nothing wrong with that................until you decide that you're such an ironic paradox and so profound that you should probably publish. There are so many wonderful books and amazing authors out there; don't waste your time.

It is just OK, nothing special. 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I found the chapters scattered and storyline pretty uneventful. The book was not a quick read. Pretty forgetable overall. Funny moments, some chapters were more entertaining than others, but def was not a page turner.

Third Times a Charm 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

It took me three attempts to get past the first twenty pages. Once I was into the heart of the first section it was laugh-out-loud funny. Well, that was until the second part of the book which was a bit dull and mind numbing. However, the optimism from the first section carried me through to the final section of the book. It was definately worth making it through the middle of the book.
This was an enjoyable read; the type of book to take to the beach for the day. There is about 100 unneccessary pages however, the remaining pages are witty, entertaining and enjoyable.

Editorial Review:

From the author of Kiss My Tiara comes a funny and poignant collection of true stories about women coming of age that for once isn't about finding a date.

building a tenuous bridge 4 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

As if we needed more proof of the very existence of feminism - and how it has been interpreted through the mainstream culture - Deborah Seigel has handed us a history lesson wrapped in a hot pink love letter. In her nonfiction book, Sisterhood Interrupted, Seigel imparts that not only has feminism had its mis-steps, it's fallen clear away from its foundation. But maybe that foundation needs a shake.

Don't misunderstand me: Seigel's words aren't an attack on the "f-word." Rather, she's building that tenuous bridge between the young and seemingly unmotivated, feminists and their burnt-out mothers. As a 26-year-old, self-identified woman in America, I can look around and see where the American feminist movement has failed my generation more than I can see it's successes, at times. And that's where Seigel makes her best historical point. I, with all my privilege, have the power of choice based on the historical outcomes of the movement. And I have feminists - past and present - to thank for that choice.

Sisterhood Interrupted is a quick and exciting read; Seigel exposes knowledge on where (and why) the movement split, between the more highly profiled Betty Freidan and Gloria Steinem, as well as the justification for retiring some words, like, "sisterhood." "But now I realize that sisterhood is phony. Even when there's consensus, there isn't," says Amy Richards, co-author of ManifestA, in a conversation with Seigel. "I think younger women have a better sense that it is a big façade." This 'façade' is not a backlash, or an attempt to dis-empower feminism, it's just a reality of the movement. We're not sisters based on gender alone or simply based on feminist history. I believe opening the discussion to a few things that have been deemed `sacred' isn't such a terrible thing at all.

Editorial Review:

Contrary to clichés about the end of feminism, Deborah Siegel argues that younger women are reliving the battles of its past, and reinventing it--with a vengeance. From feminist blogging to the popularity of the WNBA, girl culture is on the rise. A lively and compelling look back at the framing of one of the most contentious social movements of our time, Sisterhood, Interrupted exposes the key issues still at stake, outlining how a twenty-first century feminist can reconcile the personal with the political and combat long-standing inequalities that continue today.

A fun but tame book 3 out of 5 stars.

This book is a fun read but the stories are fairly tame.
There were a few really touching or funny stories (I loved the "cheeky chicks" chapter.) but I have done much wilder things with my friends.

Editorial Review:

From the irreverent moped-riding Hell's Belles to Ya-Yas sporting majorette boots and swilling "Knock You Naked" margaritas, here are real-life stories of fierce female bonding. Escapades range from those of the rich and famous (Fergie and Diana's night on the town during Andrew's bachelor party; Sharon Stone's literally giving Mimi Craven the shirt off her back) to those of the less celebrated (the Cirque du Chien, party-lovers who dress like poodles and drink French champagne; La Bella Mafia, a gang dedicated to diva-dom, righting wrongs, and overdressing). Chickcentric lists include "Chicks Who Rock", "Chick Reads", "Chick Flicks", and "Chick Cliques".
