Editorial Review:

The 72 names of God were originally decoded from letters found in a biblical passage describing Moses' miraculous parting of the Red Sea. Rabbi Yehuda Berg translates these 72 names into familiar spiritual concepts, and shows readers how to these names can be useful creeds on the journey toward enlightenment. He explains that "the mystical power of the Hebrew letters that parted those waters can likewise part whatever Red Sea now confronts you in your own life." The letters may be ancient, but Berg's names read like modern catchphrases: "Angelic Influences," "Soul Mate," "Dumping Depression," and "Sexual Energy." Each one gets its own elegantly designed chapter and high impact graphic. Like most Kabbalah teachers, Berg emphasizes the importance of taming ego. Yet Berg also discusses how to keep the ego in check while still attaining sexual satisfaction and prosperity—tricky, but possible. With its stylized presentation and contemporary language, this makes a unique and inviting book on the Kabbalah. --Gail Hudson

Great Beginners Book 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is very informative, well writen, and basic for new students of kabbalah and individuals interested in the subject. Kabbalah is a difficult topic to understand and learn. The author did a wonderful job by making it kabbalah easy to understand. I have read over 20 kabbalah books and would sometime have questions about the books I have read. I did not have that issue when i read this book, my questions were answered.

I also love the fact the author teaches you how to pronounce many of the jewish words. I will now pronounce the words correctly with the group of students I study kabbalah with.

As a kabbalah student I now understand the Tree of Life (Ten Sefirot) more from the book. I finally learned how to connect to it and the meaning about each sefirot.

I highly recommened this book, add it to your shopping cart right now. :)

Editorial Review:

Kabbalah For Dummies presents a balanced perspective of Kabbalah as an “umbrella” for a complex assemblage of mystical Jewish teachings and codification techniques. Kabbalah For Dummies also shows how Kabbalah simultaneously presents an approach to the study of text, the performance of ritual and the experience of worship, as well as how the reader can apply its teaching to everyday life.

Mysticism Without Obfuscation 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

What I love best about Scholem is that he wrote eloquently about spiritual enlightenment without presenting himself as being a mystical master or guru. He will guide you through the history of Jewish esoteric thought, after which you can sample some source texts (many of which now are available in English translation). No preaching here - just good scholarly thought and clear, eloquent writing. It's also amazing how a 60-year old volume remains the standard introduction while still being regarded as controversial in fundamentalist quarters. An awesome achievement!

Excellent introduction to Kabbalah 5 out of 5 stars.

Gershom Scholem was a pioneer in the academic study of Jewish mysticism. Major Trends in Jewish Mysticism is an excellent introduction to the kabbalah. The book covers the main historical movements and personalities. It explains the basic doctrines, rituals, and texts. The footnotes and referenced authors and texts become an excellent source of further study for both the academician and the spiritual seeker.

Editorial Review:

A collection of lectures on the features of the movement of mysticism that began in antiquity and continues in Hasidism today.

Excellent! 5 out of 5 stars.

Before reading this book I just read Rav Berg's Immortality which was the perfect segue to this new publication. The Rav has an amazing ability to simplify and demystify complex theories. I highly recommend Nano Technology of Mind Over Matter.

Editorial Review:

Public interest in the connection between science and religion has recently become very high, but the subject has long been studied by Kabbalists. Years before “nano” entered the vernacular as an abbreviation for “nanotechnology” — which essentially means “less is more” rather than “the bigger, the better” — Rav Berg was speaking and writing about this scientific concept in spiritual terms. And although the concept that less physicality can produce more power was only a recent discovery by scientists, it’s something that Kabbalists have known throughout the ages. In his first new book in many years, Berg examines this idea in depth. He contends that space will continue to shrink until there is nothing between humans and the world around them, lending support to the notion that “we are all one” — and by extension, to the credo “love thy neighbor as thyself.”

Editorial Review:

Lawrence Kushner describes Honey from the Rock as "an attempt to synthesize some of the world view of classical Jewish mysticism, or Kabbala, with the ordinary life experience of its author." In the introduction, Kushner also explains that the book "works best, not as a primer on Kabbalah, nor as a glimpse into the private places of a liberal Rabbi, but as a means of enticing the reader to allow a Kabbalistic world view to inform his or her everyday life." After providing that explanation of his project, Kushner's book takes flight. He begins: "There is a place as far from here as breathing out is from breathing in. For the word is very near you.... Where life forever holds gentle sway over death, where people are human with the same grace that a willow is a willow, where the struggle and the yearning between male and female is at last resolved. It is, to begin with, all inside us." There are no false words in this book, no straining logic, no lazy vagueness, no awkward didacticism. Honey from the Rock walks through 10 different "gates" to Jewish mysticism, from the "Wilderness" of preparation for prayer to the "Higher Worlds" of which some are granted glimpses. Each chapter will help clarify your vision a little more and teach you to become a little more present. Each one will also make you smile. --Michael Joseph Gross

Judaism...the next 2000 years. 5 out of 5 stars.
17 of 18 people found this review helpful.

Rabbi Winkler is doing an amazing thing for Judaism. If it weren't for his writings on what the "Hebrews" really were/are/could be, I think I would have simply left my Judaism behind. But I am so thankful that this scholar and spirit has done the work he has done. In this book, he shows how Judaism is full of rituals, ideas, practices, and teachings that fit under the category "shamanic." He talks about how Judaism is a path very much in touch with the natural world around us, all creatures, the heavenly bodies, etc. He discusses how the Hebrew language is one based upon a shamanic (pantheistic?) interpretation of the universe.

I have studied Buddhism a lot, and shamanic traditions a little, and have always found these other traditions to be so much more grounded in real human experience than the Judaism I was raised with. What Rabbi Winkler does is show how Judaism, at its core and in its origin, was just as grounded as these other paths, just as open and responsive to human experience in all its manifestations. Rabbi Winkler is revitalizing Judaism. I highly suggest this book as well as any other by him.

Editorial Review:

A spiritual crisis sent Orthodox rabbi Gershon Winkler to remote regions of the Southwest, where he studied with Native American healers. From them he began to recover the long-lost wisdom of what he calls “Aboriginal Judaism”: the religion’s tribal roots. This book tracks his personal journey and draws from a dazzling mix of sources to detail the surprising connections between two seemingly unrelated religions.

Jesus as the kabbalistic teacher 4 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

To start I think the figure of Jesus is an important one. The author reveals the historical Jesus as the human, not as God but as the messenger, prophet and teacher of God. The way she writes is very informative and develops theories, some of them very truthful and others very doubtful... like the one about the cross or the theories about the apostle John..., but it was worth it to read and have an open mind on her opinion.

On the positive and valuable side... The analysis of the ten commandments, Jesus teachings and the tree of life are amazing. The way she develops some rituals are very inspiring and interesting. I will definatly try it. I have to admit that section about Jesus teachings and the tree of life are the best... I have read many much more other books of kabbalah and this one stand out.

To anyone looking for a kabbalah with an Jesus perspective I have to recommend it. This book proves Jesus was in fact a kabalistic rabbi with divine light to the world and the Son of God. An informative book good to read.

Editorial Review:

2005 Latino Literary Awards First place winner in the cathegory of Best Religious Book

Are Jesus' teachings based on Kabbalism? How do the Ten Commandments tie into the Tree of Life? Is the Lord's Prayer a Kabbalist invocation? Migene González-Wippler reveals secrets of the Bible and the life of Jesus in her intriguing introduction to the Christian Kabbalah.

Emphasizing Christian aspects, Keys to the Kingdom presents an easy-to-read overview of the Kabbalah, describing its major principles and historical elements. Drawing on the gospels and historical records, González-Wippler examines Jesus as a man and a teacher, providing convincing evidence-based on historical and traditional Jewish law-that Jesus was a master Kabbalist . . . as well as the Messiah.

Kabbalah—the secret is out! From Madonna’s controversial conversion to the Dalai Lama’s acknowledgment and support, this mystical tradition is gaining unprecedented recognition. But how do we put this powerful and esoteric worldview into practice? With The Ecstatic Kabbalah, Rabbi David Cooper— author of God Is a Verb (100,000 copies sold, Riverhead, 1958), and a renowned leader of the Jewish meditation movement—provides practical exercises on the path toward "mending the soul," the fundamental Jewish experience that brings union with the Divine. With meditation techniques for both beginning and advanced practitioners, The Ecstatic Kabbalah guides listeners into awareness of the "presence of light" with experiential practices for touching the four worlds of mystical Judaism: • Physical—breath work and mind-body harmonization • Emotional—tone the divine names as an expression of devotion • Mental—learn the histories of these techniques • Spiritual—stabilize your connection with divine presence Finally, the long-sequestered doors of Kabbalah are open to all listeners, as they are invited to dwell in the embrace of the Divine with The Ecstatic Kabbalah’s practices of daily renewal.

Editorial Review:

Have you ever experienced something so extraordinary as to leave you wondering whether some higher power or force were responsible? "We do not need to sit and wait for the finger of Grace to tap us on the shoulder," explains Rabbi David A. Cooper, "rather, we can practice the invocation of angels—cultivating profound experiences that immediately open us to guidance and blessings from the Divine." Invoking Angels presents a book with a CD to help practitioners of any faith find self-empowerment through an active relationship with angels, which Cooper views as energetics that serve as mediums through which God, humankind, and all of creation are interconnected. Readers are guided by this master kabbalist and storyteller in a complete program of daily meditations on CD including: • An Archangel meditation for open-heartedness and courage • A Guardian Angel meditation for protection in any situation • A meditation on the Divine Presence (the Shekhina), invoking the "supreme" angels, Metatron and Sandalphon, to experience profound awareness and sufficiency Angels have been popularized everywhere, from calendars and books to mugs and T-shirts—but where did it all begin? Invoking Angels takes readers back to the teachings of the Torah, the Bible, and other sacred texts to reveal the original vision of angels and the universe we co-create with them. Intended to complement an existing spiritual practice, comfort the sick, invite wisdom, and more, Invoking Angels will help anyone interested in a deeper relationship with these divine forces at work around us.
