Pretty good book 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I got this book as part of premarriage counseling, and overall it was a good book. Good information for people of various sex knowledge levels. However, the book was comical at points and seemed a bit old fashioned/impractical. For example, a wife should have dinner on the table and look her best when her husband comes home from work. It also said that couples should not own a TV for the first year of their marriage. Already broke that rule.

Wonderful and educational 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is wonderful! I bought it just prior to my wedding. It is a bit like going back to middle school sex-ed, but it proved invaluable for the honeymoon. The authors deal expertly, honestly, and sensitively about the subject.

Best Christian sex manual out there! 5 out of 5 stars.

The Wheat's really know what they are talking about...and it was fun to read with my new husband. I would recommend this book to everyone, not just Christians, who are about to make the jump to wedded bliss. Probably better to read a month before the wedding...otherwise that first night can be like fumbling around in the dark. Highly recommended.

Editorial Review:

The classic on sex in Christian marriage, now updated and expanded. The most medically accurate description of sexual function in the male and female available today. This material is presented in wholesome terms that would be of help to any married or soon-to-be married couple.

Editorial Review:

Society tells us that sex is an act of self-expression, a personal choice for physical pleasure that can be summed up in the ubiquitous phrase: “hooking up.” Millions of American teenagers and young adults are finding that the psychological baggage of such behavior is having a real and lasting impact on their lives. They are discovering that “hooking up” is the easy part, but “unhooking” from the bonds of a sexual relationship can have serious consequences.

A practical look into new scientific research showing how sexual activity causes the release of brain chemicals which then result in emotional bonding and a powerful desire to repeat the activity. This book will help parents and singles understand that “safe sex” isn't safe at all; that even if they are protected against STD's and pregnancy, they are still hurting themselves and their partner.

Editorial Review:

Drawing from his own pastoral experience as a priest and bishop before he became Pope John Paul II, Karol Wojtyla has produced a remarkably eloquent and resourceful defense of Catholic tradition in the sphere of family life and sexual morality. He writes in the conviction that science--biology, psychology, sociology--can provide valuable information on particular aspects of relations between the sexes, but that a full understanding can be obtained only by study of the human person as a whole. Central to his argument is the contrast between the personalistic and the utilitarian views of marriage and of sexual relations. The former views marriage as an interpersonal relationship, in which the well-being and self-realization of each partner are of overriding importance to the other. It is only within this framework that the full purpose of marriage can be realized. The alternative, utilitarian view, according to which a sexual partner is an object for use, holds no possibility of fulfillment and happiness. Wojtyla argues that divorce, artificial methods of birth control, adultery (pre-marital sex), and sexual perversions are all in various ways incompatible with the personalistic view of the sexual self-realization of the human person.

Perhaps the most striking feature of the book is that Wojtyla appeals throughout to ordinary, human experience, logically examined. He draws support for his views on the proper gratification of sexual needs, on birth control, and on other matters, from the findings of physiologists and psychologists. His conclusions coincide with the traditional teachings of the Church, which invoke scriptural authority. His approach ensures that non-Christians also can consider his arguments on their own merits.

Spiritual Sexuality 4 out of 5 stars.
11 of 11 people found this review helpful.

Bill and Pam Farrel believe that the most satisfying sex occurs in a monogamous, committed marriage. "Red Hot Monogamy" is written with Christian couples in mind. Sexuality and spirituality are intertwined in a unique way. This book is not just about sex it is more about developing a strong relationship that fosters intimacy. A lot of the ideas seem natural for newlyweds so reading this as a refresher course is a good option. There are over 200 creative romantic ideas and special sections for "Hands-on Homework." I liked the ideas about redecorating the bedroom to fit your fantasy location. Many of the ideas will also work for "romance on a budget." Making up code words, leaving secret notes and surprising your partner with romantic outings will make your love life hotter than before. I can recommend this book to Christian couples who are also interested in knowing what the Bible has to say about sexuality.

Editorial Review:

"Truly groundbreaking work. Boswell reveals unexplored phenomena with an unfailing erudition."—Michel Foucault
John Boswell's National Book Award-winning study of the history of attitudes toward homosexuality in the early Christian West was a groundbreaking work that challenged preconceptions about the Church's past relationship to its gay members—among them priests, bishops, and even saints—when it was first published twenty-five years ago. The historical breadth of Boswell's research (from the Greeks to Aquinas) and the variety of sources consulted make this one of the most extensive treatments of any single aspect of Western social history. Christianity, Social Tolerance, and Homosexuality, still fiercely relevant today, helped form the disciplines of gay and gender studies, and it continues to illuminate the origins and operations of intolerance as a social force.
"What makes this work so exciting is not simply its content—fascinating though that is—but its revolutionary challenge to some of Western culture's most familiar moral assumptions."—Jean Strouse, Newsweek

Editorial Review:

Are you ready to respond to the most relevant questions of sexuality today?

Lifetime monogamy is passé. Pornography infiltrates nearly every home. Homosexuality is accepted. Lust has been redefined. The family as an institution is questioned.

We are reminded every day that assumptions about what is right and wrong, sexually, are different today than they were fifty–or even ten–years ago. Christian principles that formed the pattern for generations of American families are conspicuously absent. What happened and why? How do we respond to the dramatic shift in our culture’s perspective on sex?

As one of today’s most influential thinkers, Dr. Albert Mohler addresses these critical topics in a thoughtful, cut-to-the-chase style in Desire and Deceit. As you follow Mohler’s guidance in applying biblical solutions to today’s most highly charged issues, you will be not only equipped but also inspired to speak the truth in a society hungry for answers.

As the Christian daughter of a lesbian... 4 out of 5 stars.
20 of 33 people found this review helpful.

I can safely say that this book makes an honest effort to approach the subject kindly and treat homosexuals in a loving way. I do not agree that homosexuality is just another lifestyle. I have watched my own mother go from lover to lover, never satisfied. She has had at least 13 lesbian partners in the past 14 years. She has finally found a woman that she is content to stay with but she is just that, "content," not necessarily happy. She left the church years ago and has no use for religion, but she and I get along beautifully. We have learned to love in spite of our opposing views on her sexuality. I love my Mom and I know that the environment she was raised in was one of maternal loss (her mother died when she was 18 months old), profound loneliness, and verbal abuse from an unaccepting, often cruel grandmother. Jesus encouraged compassion for every mortal, lesbian or straight, conservative or liberal. I leave the judging part to Him.

Editorial Review:

Issues surrounding homosexuality threaten to divide the Christian churches and the people within them. This unique resource presents short pieces from some of the nation's most prominent church leaders---Protestant and Catholic, mainline and evangelical---who address the fundamental moral imperative about homosexuality. Together they invite the reader to open his or her heart to the Spirit, to tolerance, and to Gospel values. Through personal testimony, factual clarification, and moral suasion, they provide much-needed clarity on the biblical witness and biblical authority, the nature or character of homosexuality and sexual orientation, and many related topics.

A Strong Delusion 4 out of 5 stars.
10 of 16 people found this review helpful.

Well-written for the lay person from a pastor and former gay Christian church member. Gives insight into the minds of those who are deluded regarding their stance on "gay Christianity."
Biblically-based analysis is helpful for a Christian parent who has a child active in a gay lifestyle in understanding their way of thinking and how to lovingly stand on Biblical principles.

Extremely enlightening 5 out of 5 stars.

I read this book and was moved and challenged. Joe Dallas not only lived this life and thus knows first hand what he is talking about, but has also gained much biblical insight through upto date research. An excellent job and moved me to be on the guard for a definite fight that lays ahead of us believers! EXCELLENT INSIGHTFUL WRITING!!

excellent resource 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is very informative and educational. It explained a lot of the ways that "pro-gay" religions have skewed God's Word to make it seem to support their theology.

Excellent starter on pro-gay theology 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

As he was under the strong delusion himself, he knows life from the inside. The pro-gay theology is built on lies, some of them very subtle, all the best lies have a half-truth in them. Dallas shines the light of truth on these lies and exposes them. The best bit of the book is his explanation of the Greek word arsenokoites (used in 1 Cor 6:9 and 1 Tim 1:10), this is derived from the Levitical prohibitions from the Septuagint (LXX) the Greek translation of the Hebrew OT. This demonstrates that Paul thought that the Levitical prohibitions on male-male sex applied in his day. This is an excellent starter for those wanting to examine pro-gay theology. For a more in depth treatment then consult the works of Robert Gagnon.

For Laity, Priests and Religious 4 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

The author, an associate professor at the Augustine Institute in Denver, wrote Men, Women and the Mystery of Love as an outgrowth of his own study and teaching on John Paul II's book Love and Responsibility. His goal was to shine a light on the pope's view of love and sexuality and show its relevance to everyday life. The work is suitable for lay people, priests, and religious in groups and as individuals. Each chapter focuses on an aspect of the pope's thinking and provides questions for reflection and suggestions for further reading. Topics include friendship; the proper role of emotions; how contraception harms love; and building trust, intimacy, and a mature love.

The chapter on building trust opens with the current divorce rates and data showing that only about one in ten married couples in the U.S. say they experience emotional intimacy in their relationship. In a great marriage, Sri writes, the spouses experience a deep personal communion with each other. John Paul II identified the underpinnings of this communion as "mutual self-giving love and the accompanying sense of responsibility for each other as gift." Sri addresses the topic with examples from the Garden of Eden, his own marriage, and two modern-day couples in crisis. This final story leads to a discussion of mature and immature love. In a summary chart, Sri describes mature love as primarily objective; looking outward; creating confidence and serenity; and self-giving. Reflection questions ask how our words and deeds break down trust and how we can maintain a truly loving attitude without approving faults of the other.
